2 badass titles? That’s cool asf dude. Quick question if you could answer, I’m coming to a close on AD and was looking at the reserves, and I’ve heard rumblings that you can be recon in the reserves, much like the NG has their SF component. Is this true?

@@maxb4210 Yes, 4th Force Reconnaissance Company (4th Force Recon) is a Force Reconnaissance unit of the United States Marine Corps. The company is located in Alameda, California, with a detachment at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCB Hawaii). The Hawaii detachment represents the only Marine Forces Reserve unit in the state. What you want to do is talk to a PSR (Prior Service Recruiter). If you got out and all of your papers are in order then you can relatively easily get into a reserve unit. First, you do all of your paperwork to qualify yourself. Next, you talk to a reserve unit and if they have a spot for you, you can request it. After that, you finish your paperwork. Then, back to the schoolhouse for a retrain. Your reserve contract will be 2 or 3 years. That depends on your retrain. If your retrain is 5 weeks, 2 year contract; 5 or more weeks, 3 years etc..

@@xo5347 I was 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment 11B after I got the opportunity to renelist in the Army. This was before they stood up MARSOC & essentially gutted Force Recon sending most of their experienced guys to the Raider Battalion in 06-08. So I was given the opportunity to renelist & got a chance to try out for selection going through RIP/RASP before I got my tab. I definitely liked being a Ranger better because it was a lot higher tempo with high security threat level missions conducting DA HVT capture & or kill raids, as well Special Reconnaissance, INTEL gathering & augmenting with SFOD-D1 CAG as their primary Overwatch QRF unit. The difference wasn't really the quality of the soldiers or Marines, because truth be told I served with some Marines in the MAGTF Recon Platoons who were just as badass & equally as tactically proficient as the Rangers who had been on multiple deployments by that time; the main difference was the training & the high usage rate we got in the Rangers. In 2nd & 3rd Battalion our Companies averaged easily 120-200 missions per deployment & when we rotated into Afghanistan mainly doing Counterinsurgency combatives operations we were easily doing several hundred HVT missions per deployment, that's pretty much all we did. In Force Recon, you mission set was really dependent upon the GCE Division Battalion you were with & what unit you were apart of. If you were lucky to be in a MEU or MAGTF you might see some really high tempo action within the Battalion you were with, but a lot of the Force Recon Marines were pretty underutilized & were just relegated to Intel gathering & Blocking missions. So you would basically just be babysitting the Infantry Batt Companies while they were doing a raid & play Lighthouse Marco Polo as we used to call it lol. But I loved my time in the Marines because it installed so much discipline & internal initiative to strive to do more, there was so much good leadership at the Officer level who were molding & shaping young Marines into really proficient Warriors who once they found their right unit would be really great at executing & completing objectives to a Gold-star standard. There was so much attention to detail & so little margin for error where we would be held accountable for any mistakes we made that it really prepared a lot of us for later in our careers when we would be with much more intense high level units. I retired after 16 years as a E-7 SFC & if I could go back I probably would've either just stayed in Force & went MARSOC or either just became a Green Beret with the SF groups. Being a Ranger was really fun, but also kind of traumatizing & mentally damaging for a few years. Unless you're complete psychopath, having to deal with that much Death & constantly being shot at really takes a toll on you once you finally retire & no longer active duty.

Totally, Marines have a good feedback in the Special Operations Community, every comment that I heard about recon and raiders coming from USASOC guys are always compliment on how professional and capable they are.

@@MHSProductions , Yeah, especially with what I've heard about their contributions of like 85% of USSOCOM's Workload. And I've heard background chatter of more Raiders being selected into 1-SFOD-D. Especially since the Marine Corps in totality seems to be one of the most rigorously trained fighting forces in the world. And I know that the US Marines along with some MARSOC dudes got beat versus Royal Marine Commandos, but they were setup to lose due to the ROE for the Brits being extremely loose and some wild, even wacky unconventional tactics were able to be used by the Brits. Overall, I truly think that the US is truly reforming the landscape of SOF and Behind-the-line warfare if what I've been seeing is true.
