I am having a hard time understanding how someone underage being forced to marry is not considered illegal - even if it’s not labeled “abuse”, it certainly sounds like trafficking and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
@eleanormason26476 ай бұрын
Not that I agree, but when she said "come back when you're married" it seemed like that unless there was a wedding arranged and about to happen then they wouldn't do it. Just knowing that it would be your fate wasn't enough at that time, since nothing had actually been formally arranged at that time. I know forced marriage or under age marriage is considered abuse now but maybe the parameters were different then

It varies state by state. In four states, there literally isn't a minimum wage, with parental approval they can be married at any age. There are 2 states where 15 year olds can be married by their parents' legal consent instead of their own, and 22 states where it's 16. This is used frequently to trap kids in cults, abusive families, and frequently as almost a kind of conversion therapy - don't like that your daughter likes women? Forcibly marry them to a man, problem solved!

And lord help you if she felt you did not carry a Bible. I got married and went to live with my dad. But started attending a different church and grew up an I learned that her ideology doesn't work. She quit her job and squander her money then moved back retired again. Now she is living with her sibling. She tried living with friends and they got tired of her. Mainly the male friend was not going to leave his wife and do what my mom wanted him to do. Now that I moved away now she has apologized for how she did me growing up and as an adult. Baby steps. I’m really surprised that Utah didn’t have some laws on the books to help kids being married off. I would have thought knowing your state still has these groups practicing polygamy having ways to help the kids more should have been a priority. So many people just dropping the ball. Social workers here generally don't have lucrative salaries, slightly more than teachers. But agencies are ran and maintained by the states, and operate within each individual county of said states. The majority of agencies do not receive adequate funding to employ enough people to cover the amount of cases they have to deal with (red states are in especially rough shape since they tend to have higher instances of child abuse and neglect). Social worker burnout frequently occurs and many quit their jobs after only a few years because of the work load. The individuals aren't the problem, the entire system is mismanaged and broken.

The law is dumb when it comes to dealing with abuse. Anyone who says forced marriage or child marriage are not abuse is either adhering to legal definition using the law to not help or is making statements that condone a type of child abuse. There is a problem of child marriage and it happens in Indian families, Pakistanian ext the abuse in these situations are horrendous! Forced marriage especially child marriage is sexual abuse. It's indirect/instrumental. But many of them are sexually abused by in-laws and fathers cousins ext but then their honor is ruined because they are unclean. Many women are killed set on fire strangled by their own parents. The situation is swept under the rug and ruled accidents ext

It’s really inspiring, to see someone get that far in life, from the family she came from. I can’t imagine, how she lifted the fog, from that intense of brainwashing & isolation. As she’ll see, huge populations come from pretty intense trauma, even though they weren’t in cults. Her story, is going to give a lot of her patients strength & hope, that they might bounce back from their own traumas. It’s so valuable, sharing that hope for healing. I’ll just add from my own journey: nutrition & lifestyle are tremendously suppressed, in favor of artificial interventions. She’ll have to wade through that swamp every day. Get people off sugar, as you can. Get them out walking, the most accessible & sustainable daily exercise (daily miles), for most people. Good luck, girl.

And I wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you're both putting in to spread awareness ❤

There are a lot of men who get no wives, or just one. They’re also way more accepting of families who want to join if they have a number of young daughters. Men get kicked out for little to no reason to make room for the higher ups taking all the girls. Also, when a man dies or gets kicked out, his wives and daughters get reassigned to a man who’s usually one of the higher ups

Unless the men are part of the inner circle or close to the leadership, they often don't get married. But as long as they keep dangling that carrot, many will work themselves to death for the order. Meanwhile multiple of Paul's sons were living polygamy when they were still teens. Also they tend to kick the younger more attractive men out, too much competition
@hailyjohnson4079 ай бұрын
It's also why they marry off girls at 13-16, to provide more wives for the men in their 30s-40s who may only have 1-2 wives. So if you aren't a leader's favorite son, you probably didn't get your first wife until your late 20s-early 30s, and your wife is probably like 10 years younger or more. In addition to non-leader men getting fewer wives or no wives at all

What a brave, eloquent & intelligent woman! The fact that she was so self-reflective and focused at such a young age and under those circumstances is really amazing. Allison, you can be so proud of yourself!!!! Enjoy your life now!!!! 🍀 ❤

Wow. I am so proud of this young lady. A lot of teenagers sure could use this video to show them just how good they have it. Oh, and a lot of adults, too.

Thanks a lot. You are doing a wonderful job, it's SO important to offer an opportunity for all those women to be heard. And for everybody to understand what happens really in those cults.

This may seem totally random, but anyone else notice how similar she sounds to Amanda Rae? Voice tone, speech pattern. I had a moment where I forgot who I was listening to. I’ve lost track of the family bush, are Amanda and Allison part of the same bush? Allison’s story is amazing-and I deeply respect her commitment to education.

Haha yeah when Amanda was visiting a few days ago I told her the same thing. That out of everyone I felt they sounded the most alike.

They look super similar too imo. I thought I was looking at Amanda Rae at first 😂 she looks more like her than her half sister!

Allison, you are one strong young women. I am a nurse of many years and have been been teaching nursing for over 20 years. Trust the process, read your textbooks, balance yours days and weeks with family time and study. Even though healthcare isn’t what it use to be but you can be the change agent. Good luck.

Thank you Allison for sharing your story. It's wild how different all the stories are and they came from the same place. Question for any of the guests: do the authorities not consider the forced labor at a young age abuse?

I know in some states, kids can work within family business but there are still regulations, so probably not depending on which state you work in

Every time we have heard about the Order banking system and now the tax info, I bet it is SUPER difficult to prove they have young young kids working. Because where is the documentation?

Your such a beautiful person. Thank you for bravely sharing your story. I can definitely relate to the abuse from a mother. It’s especially painful because a mom is supposed to protect you not attack you. I hope one day I will find the courage to share my cult story and inspire others the way you have 💛

I hate the abuse that these former order members have endured. It truly is a terrible, destructive cult! Allison is amazing, brave and wonderful! I wish her nothing but love. All of these former members speaking out is so powerful. I really have to commend their courage. It can't be an easy thing to do. I hope so many people start coming out of this group that it no longer exists.

I am so proud of her and amazed by her strength. Congratulations on your new life. I know how hard it is to lose family as one who has been shunned by her own, but I wish for you nothing but the best because you deserve it.

I found this channel last year and I've watched almost every video and every video reminds me how powerful women are (men that escape are too but) the abuse that we can suffer and Persevere by shear power of will is astonishing. Bravo to all the people that escape to a better life. At this point, since so much has come to light in recent years about cults there should be a legal task force of pro Bono lawyers and specialty training for police offers etc specifically for helping people out of the situations. Shelise, you are amazing in your own story but the fact that you've given this platform to so many to come together from all different backgrounds to tell their story's in such a safe and understanding place is applaudable. The psychology of it all is as interesting as it is appalling. I never lived that life but I did experience religion pushing my mother to condemn me at a young age and then abusive relationships once I once older. Seeing how every person perceives things and takes their freedom back. How some are angry, some forgave some make jokes, it's just so impowering to share our stories and take back our power. Thank you for being you ❤️

Shelise, I just wanted to add that I think you are amazing. You are so caring, welcoming, respectful and just downright lovely to all of your guests. You are an inspiration running this channel whilst you still have your own trauma. Thank you for providing this platform for those who have been in cults to be able to tell their stories and for those people still stuck in these cults, can watch your channel and have the seeds of doubt planted that how they are living is most likely very dysfunctional and unhappy. Give yourself a big pat on the back. Respect sister, you’re amazing xx

Great Video. Each of my family members coming from the from the order bring up really good points of things I didn’t realize were problematic until watching their stories back. The order tells its members there is no abuse happening but if that’s true then why do so many people come out with the same experiences.
@meganmccarthy54449 ай бұрын
Allison, I would love to hear more about your experience in the outside world for the first time. I hope you can be brought back on to share more. How were you treated by the staff at the facilities you went to? How did you view the children and adults in the outside? We’re you surprised at what people took for granted? What were gaps in your education or knowledge of how to function outside the Order that were hardest to overcome? How was dating and being married when your framework was so different growing up? Your courage and grit is inspiring. That little girl who overcame and persevered is you and you keep showing up to do hard things. 👏👏🤗

It is so frustrating and heartbreaking to hear how thoroughly the state failed her. What a completely upside down world! A teen fighting so hard to go to school and parents literally setting her up to fail school! A teen doing everything she can to not get into a sexual relationship and parents forcing her to get into an incestuous marriage. 1:05:34 It was so hard to hear her say "I'm not stupid" in response to the attempt at manipulation. She's absolutely incredible for seeing through the manipulation, but if she didn't she wouldn't be stupid. You should be able to trust your family! Especially your parents! Being told that wanting to go into the medical field is Satan...just wow. Good for her for getting on her way to becoming a nurse! I was about to say it's the Lords work, but I guess not lol. Hail Satan!

Allison ty for telling your story. I know a part of your story was told on Escaping Polygamy because your sisters were the focus of the show. As you were telling your story, parts of it were sounding familiar but I couldn't remember if it was shown or alluded to. I finally remembered it was discussed but not gone into deeply because you were a minor. SO glad to hear your whole story and that you landed on your feet. I'm glad you have some of your siblings already out so you can maintain those relationships. Good luck on your schooling and I hope you love being a nurse. I work in a hospital (not as a nurse, but I have regular contact with them) we need compassionate people in hospitals. So many nurses are so BURNT out it's hard to see why they every wanted to be a nurse because they are just suffering from compassion fatigue and there are always more patients than there are nurses! Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your life and I'm glad you found the courage to fight before it was too late and it was 10 times harder for you to leave. Shelise, have you reached out to Shirley about coming on to your show? She was kicked out toward the end of the series and she wasn't doing well. I have thought about her during all of your interviews with the Kingston kids and I would love to know how she is doing and HER journey to HOPEFULLY finding happiness with like 6 kids in tow and never having had a job that didn't belong to The Order.
