The '49 Ford was way ahead of it's time, actually the car that saved Ford Motor Co. The car's contemporary styling, light body made the car ideal for being a hot rod.

My Dad bought a brand new ‘49 four door. We had it until 1962. It was a great car.

My parents owned a '49 Custom 4 door back in the '60's. Bought it used. Good car reliable as all get out.

I once was at a vintage car show in northern Indiana and someone had a '49 Ford on display. What was unusual about the car was that it didn't have the usual flathead V-8, but a flathead six.

i was at the ford dealership in oregon il in late oct 1948 when the first load of new 1949 ford cars arrived. i was 10yrs old and it was so exciting to see these new cars the first off the trailer was blue [[as in the video]]2dr bus,.coupe .it was sold to moorehouse motorola radio store and repair. very soon to be tv store and repair. inside the front door was a plastic motif of a future ford car .it was a little futuristic as it resembled a plane.but that was the talk among us kids . in fact compared to other cars it looked like a futuristic plane. and mr moorehouse had tha car for about 10 yrs.

Word for word, that commercial would have played the same up to 12 years earlier. The exception being the announcer would have sounded like he was on stage instead of in a studio. Sometimes I wonder what goes through the minds of the people who make styling decisions...saying, "Yes, this is how we want our company to be seen..." But in this case, they got it right.

My first car in 1957 was a used 1949 ford four door Custom. The 8BA flat head V8 was a powerful engine and I ate 53 Chevy's for snacks with it. Went through Throw Out Bearings, but the price you pay when you race the things. Went through several bumpers as one game we loved to play was bumping the car in front of us into the intersection. Bumpers were heavy steel and the frames were solid as a tank. Enough steel in a 49 ford to build two modern Fords today. Ha! Oh, got over 18 MPG as well, but points and plugs lasted only about 10,000 miles and tires didn't go much further. Generators failed often no mater what brand and cooling systems left a little to be desired. Put glass packs on her and you had a monster. Good times.

My grandfather had the 1949 Ford custom , was nothing but trouble so was the last Ford the family ever owned.

My dad's friend Bill Roberts had one of these cars, a black 2 door. I remember it had a vacuum-operated cigarette lighter. You put your cigarette into a chrome hole, what lit it for you. Bill smoked Camel cigarettes, and when I was 12, I sneaked in his bedroom dresser and stole a pack. I bet he knew it

My dad had one in the early 50's and had nothing but trouble with it and finally traded it in on a 54 Ford which a way better car. I had a 50 Ford and was a good car except for the heater which barely warmed the interior.

The first of the post WW2 designs, they were eagerly purchased by young drivers who could hop up their V-8's from 100 to 120 hp with after market parts. Look at the nearly flat floorboards and that back seat, just right for taking your lady to a drive in horror flick.

GM stuck with the obsolete fat fenders until 1955. Cadillac held out unti l 1957.

Excellent car 4 drum breaks with a one pot hydraulic system. One speed vacuum windshield wipers that slowed down with acceleration. Numerous very sharp items in the passenger compartment to catch and slice you as you are tossing around inside without seat belts. Non collapsing steering column or steering wheel. Rudimentary door locks that might keep the door shut in a crash. Non locking seat backs in the two doors and coupes so that in a quick stop you can pull your passenger out of the radio. Power nothing. Steering that is very vague and many many turns lock to lock almost negating any chance of doing a quick lane change and the bias ply tires weren't terribly sticky. But since I have a death wish and enjoy the adrenaline rush, I commute daily to work in mine. Oh I forgot they pollute the air more than 250 modern cars.
