Memories... I had a '69 428CJ, T&C Top Loader 4spd, N case 9" rear w/3.91s, Torino Cobra some years ago. Mostly as Ford built it but some serious "fiddling" in the tuning department. The stock 735cfm was gone through by a friend who worked at Holley R&D on 9mile rd. in Warren MI, I recurved the mechanical advance in the stock distributor (limited the vacuum adv. but kept it as the car was my daily also), shimmed/spaced the rocker shafts up to reduce the pre-load in the lifters, always ran Echlin HD ignition points with careful attention to contact alignment and spring tension, Motorcraft secondary ignition parts (wires etc.), also trimmed the side electrodes and indexed the plugs, ran a Mallory Voltmaster II coil. 2-1/2" duals off the CJ manifolds with an X pipe and the least restrictive turbo mufflers of the day - I think Arvin made 'em. All steel bushings in a Hurst competition plus, a Hayes 3000lb clutch and some suspension tuning my cousin who ran a CJ Mustang in stock class taught me, and a torque strap on the driver's side head down to the unibody "frame rail" - tore itself off the driver's side mount twice before the strap. It rarely lost a race against the big block Mopars and GMs around (a loss was almost always me being sloppy about the leave and melting the tires) and still drove just fine in traffic - never overheated or killed a plug during rush hr. God I miss that car.

I had a 1957 Ranchero with 428cj stuffed with 427 parts. Big spline top loader 9 inch trac loc 3.70 factory 427 2x4bbl holleys. It blew a head gasket and broke a couple pistons between the ring lands. Then i found a complete 428scj with lemans rods and pendulum spacer. It was sure not the same as the original 428cj that someone from the 70s built. The scj reved slower due to the hezvy rods. When you punch the gas it would put a smile on your face so big even a slap from will smith at the oscars couldnt wipe off.

Beautiful. I built a 428 with my dad for mud racer 57 fairlane fiberglass shell aluminum frame 44s it was a beast. The 428 block we got filled and over bored it was low buck back yard build. It was on nitris too. After build we got it on dyno 1380 HP . These 428 are great. Huge valves and with bore and bit work you get plenty HP. This one is great too. Ford 460 block is my next project building a 1500hp 460 thanks for the channel. Cool vids

I’m not an expert. But Dave Frieberger did an exhaust video on engine masters? They concluded a straight 18” section of tubing right behind the headers before anything else ie. Bends, cats, mufflers, produced the most power. Oh! Also bleve it or not, that intake filter set up is not very good for flow, they discovered an actual stainless steel salad bowl cut open and placed on the carb sucked in the most air vs. all the available intake systems. It really is an informative series.

Mine was a 70' Mustang, Mach 1, 428 Cobra Jet. Was it a "Super" Cobra Jet? Didn't know there was such a thing back then, and didn't put much thought into it anyway. However, when one of those massive intakes broke off, and ricocheted around, the engine was done for. Pulled it apart and the connecting rods had the word "NASCAR" cast into the webbing. Didn't need them anymore, so I sold them to a friend of mine. He took them to be checked for straightness, and had them polished.....so no more "NASCAR". I do remember the intake was cast iron and felt like it weighed 100 pounds.

Yes, it is! I HAD an immaculate 72 Pinto hatchback reserved for just such a purpose, but it was stored at my parents house and they decided to move. At the time I had no where to store it myself, so I gave it away.......

That engine has been sitting in your garage for 40years ? WHAT OTHER FELONIES HAVE YOU COMMITTED ? Sounds great ! You really need to find a vintage Mustang to drop that bad boy in. Give it a real home.
