Its says something when people spend time on a 70 year old tractor to help it continue on working for them. I'm sure that a lot of the newer tractors available will not be around in 70 years.

Perfect tutorial, I own and work on a lot of antique tractors and I always struggle with the electric part, currently working on an 8N that I bought, had a 3 position switch on it and a few extra wires that I could not figure out, it was already converted to 12v some time in the past, I simplified everything based on your tutorial, will see how I did this afternoon after I go to town and buy a battery, but gonna change the oil and filters first, thanks again

Thanks for this video. I recently bought a '52 8N with a 12v conversion. It was a home job using really janky parts. I will order your premium kit and a few other goodies to make my tractor great again.

I just bought a 52 8n, discovered the charging system doesn't charge and its a mess of wires everywhere... I said oh heck no. So I ordered a premium conversion kit from you. I hope it works out.

In your video, you are showing the battery positive wire going to the solenoid terminal. But my tractor, actually, it is the negative battery wire going to this terminal (Chassis is +6V). If I do it like your did in the video, will it reverse the starter rotation ?

I'm having difficulty understanding the connection of the key switch to the starter button. I don't see how they are connected. If the key was not turned to the on position would the starter button still allow the engine to turn over, it just would'nt have spark until the key was on?

8N Ford stuck in gear, fluid is good. Starts well with clutch engaged. Is this a time consuming and expensive fix ? For your next video. Maybe???

I recently purchased a ford 8n with side mounting distributor and have ordered the 12v conversion kit. My question is is there a use for the voltage regulator now? Haven’t seen any videos on them being wired up in this system. First thing I did was yank out All the wiring and old connections to replace with new but still have the voltage regulator mounted.

Question, a buddy of mine had an issue, after changing everything over to a 12 volt system the start/neutral button would turn the engine over with the key off, it wouldn’t actually start the engine because there was no voltage to the distributor coil with key off but it did energize the starter solenoid & try to turn the engine over. I didn’t think it that was right but he said it was. I was just wondering

Rachel, I like your youtube shows but my son and I just converted our 601 just the way you showed us but when we turn the key on it won't even turn over we can go from the solenoid to the starter with a jumper cable and it will turn over but not with the new push button switch and we hooked the yellow wire to the solenoid and to the push button like you said what could be wrong everything shows we have fire could the solenoid be bad?

I have a question, should the tractor crank over regardless of ignition switch position?, either way I’m not getting spark at the plugs, I have a new coil that I have not installed yet the only other thing I didn’t change is the starter regulator, cap and rotor and points and condenser are all new, brand new battery, positive and negative cables, older wires but seem ok, any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

I have a 8n Ford I bought but the charging system is not working. It has a 2 plug alternator and not running the ports on your video and also it's been changed from points to electronic ignition what can I do to get everything working so I can use my new tractor

I purchased alternator ,solenoid, coil,Amp Guage,terminal block,switch,negative terminal wire(braided),and wiring harness I have it all hooked up exactly like the diagram in the book says to but when I go to hook up the negative terminal to the negative post it arcs help please do you have any ideas?

Rewired my 8n according to the video. Starts and runs fine. Only problem, it stays running when the key is turned off. What might the problem be?

Did you use a one-wire alternator as demonstrated? The trouble you're describing is typical of an automotive two-wire or three-wire alternator that is back-feeding.

I've heard there is problems converting to a 12 volt system. The one I find most concerting is that the flywheel is getting damaged as the starter is spinning faster. Have you seen happen?

The flywheel should not get damaged from spinning faster unless something prevents the engine from rotating. These are low compression engines. A properly tuned engine should start quickly. It would not be a good idea to keep cranking the engine too long if converted to 12 volts. That can cause the 6 volt starter to overhead and fail. When you convert to 12 volts, you are doubling the current flow through the starter.

Only if you are still using a 6 volt coil.
