Hello Toby, I so love these old machines and that tumble bug is an amazing piece of equipment

Grandpa bought our 8n brand new in 1949. He ordered the upright exhaust kit for it, after setting a hay windrow on fire...... I use ours almost every day for things around the framyard.

Back when men were men and tractors were tractors!

In the late 70's my parents purchased I believe it is a 1941 but, for sure 8N. A neighbor said it would last 5 years. Wrong it is still running today. A great tractor

The 89-N was the first large tractor Dad allowed me to operate at age 7ish. well, drive, not operate. You keep your equipment in great shape - that you for sharing what you excel in with we former country boys who are now dazzling, not so young, urbanites.

I only came to appreciate the 8N after I was asked to resurrect one. They were very sophisticated compared to the other tractors of that time period. Coming from a automotive background I found the 8N easy to relate to when working on it. I like your videos and the variety of subjects you cover.

I do a lot of work around my place with a 1952 Ferguson TO-30 (mow +/- 20 acres, plow a decent sized driveway during the winter, etc.) and I always enjoy watching these old machines work. They can get a lot done if you just have a little patience and use your brain. I hope to buy a crawler at some point in the future!

Always fun working the old tractors. Your definitely right in the six foot blade being as much as the Ford can handle I recently attached a seven footer on my Ford from my Kubota and it wouldn’t move snow more than 5 feet before it was stopped in its tracks.

As usual, great video! Love the old equipment and working with them. I always thought 1st gear was pretty fast compared to other machines. Probably about right for that job.

Over fifty years ago, drove my first 8n. Two weeks ago, picked up a 9n. How great.

Wow we always used our super duty 6’ rhino blade weighs at least double that. It is fully adjustable and definitely need to steer clear it’s brakes in hills

The price of 8Ns has fallen quite a bit in the last 30 years or so. When you read the rated horsepower and see how much work one of those will do and then look at the rated horsepower on some of the newer tractors and put them in a similar situation you are amazed how little power some of the 30+ horsepower rated machines can do. I never used an 8N but I did use a Jubilee when I was a boy, it was really easy to operate but I also used an AC WD 45 and loved the power they had. I even liked the ACs three point because of how it put the power down, even though the implement needed to be level to hook it up easily. It is good to see so many of the 8Ns still going 70 years later.

Love watching you restore & work the old machines so it's hard to believe that you are going to keep the Minni mo 445 prototype as just a parade Queen I can understand why you would but you look like you enjoy using them as much as you like fixing them! keep up the hard work enjoyed the video kinda looking forward to winter to see the work on the Minni mo 445 prototype continue

You have made good progress on the leveling and smoothing. I prefer to use a double edged box blade for that kind of road work but we work with the tools we have got. :-)

Until recently I had a very early 8N. It's build date was 8-6-47. I really loved that machine.

Good, I`ve always wanted to see a rear blade attachment in action. I have the blade on;y here behind my shed, I've been waiting for some ideas of how to build a harness for it,..now I see how it`s done, so now I think I`ll order up some steel and get to it. Thanks for this.

1st time viewer... subbed, belled, and liked. that back blade is awesome... I have seen box blades on these but I didn't know that they had this back blade available! On that fill dirt I would plant corn, melons and other food along the edge as a long garden plot - deer plot, and fill in the center with tough grass mixture to drive on, We had a mix that we used on the ditches in Florida that would be perfect... it had tough roots and long and strong grass to keep those ditches from eroding. perfect to drive on - just bush hog about 4-5 times a year.Call the Orange county road dept in FLA to ask them what that mix was... it was tough and grew to about 2 foot and stopped... perfect straw or road fill that you can't kill by driving on it.

The poor mans motor grader strikes again but I remember a Road Patrol lurking about at the shop. That works just fine with the 8-N. Just the right size and the N runs like another one of your Swiss watches. As does everything else! Good job and the slope will be better for drainage, sure! Thanks, Toby and Hi 2 Pop!

Keep in mind the axles are not independent suspension so if your tires raise going over a bump so will the straight blade meaning if your trying to flatten a trail or firelane it's better to go in reverse pushing the dirt to fill in the low spots first then once done then drive over normally with straight blade forward to do fine tuning ...

Thinkin about getting an 8n...this video might have pushed me over the top lol

Your back blade is a lot better than the one I had to use! It was pretty worn out.

I saw an old Ferguson video where they were using a Ferguson scraper, the factory made a trail wheel setup to help keep the blade from dipping in or coming out of the ground, Would be a great option for those of us who use these old 3 pt hitch scrapers and rock rakes

That’d be a great job for a grader. The old ford is getting it done but a bit of down pressure wouldn’t hurt. Nice job

If you wanted to use the Kabota, grab a King Kutter 6’ box blade and a hydraulic top link and you could have done all of this with one implement. Some of this is to exercise the old equipment, but for someone watching with less equipment gives them a capable tool for not much money.

Nice looking tractor! Ive got a 1940 9n there nice 20hp tractors for light duty work and dragging logs. Looking for a farmall h or m with a front blade and enjoy your dads rebuild videos

My uncle got a ford just like yours here in brazil.The previous owner installed a VW beetle carburetor on it because spare parts are impossible to find and someho ,runs fine lol

I'm thinking about getting a box blade. Seems King Kutter is built the best and heaviest. I have a back blade but need to dig up existing gravel. Driveway and turn around are about 800' total. Have a 9N 1941 just converted to 12 volt. 81 years old and going strong.

If your looking to buy an 8n and your new to tractors I would recommend you get a Ferguson 35 because you will really appreciate the high and low range especially slow speed ranges also the live PTO and lift hydraulic ..with the two stage clutch you can stop forward motion and still have power to both whereas on the 8n everything stops when you push the clutch down

That new (well a few years old now and low hour) engine in the 8N sure runs sweet. But I was thinking as I watched you move dirt with it, despite how old your equipment is, is the 8N the only Flathead on the property? Aside from D2/RD6 pony engines that is. Thanks for sharing. Soon all your hard work will be covered in snow.

I picked up a 48 8n in a trade. Not running. I got it running and idling on its on in less than 2 hours. I have alil bit more work to do to it before i sell it. But maybe ill keep alil bit and move 12 foot logs around the yard with it before she goes.

run you about a 6 to 8 foot cut of chain link fence with some weight like a pipe or log and it with really level out then. j/s

That Tumblebug appeared in the Sears Roebuck catalog in the 1930’s. I need to do more research to get pictures and prices back then.

Question for you Squatch. I learned to drive on an 8N back in the late 50s. My uncle had a pair of 8Ns and they looked old back then. They were very similar to yours, but with several differences. I remember the clutch and brake pedals were made of round bar stock, not flat like yours. Also the throttle friction was not on the cowl, but a pie shaped metal frame off to the right side of the steering wheel with ridges to create friction to hold the setting. Does any of that sound familiar? I'm trying to understand how old they were.

Was that the tractor with the draught control on the rear linkage that Harry Ferguson invented and made in England, then went into partnership with Ford. Seem to remember the partnership went pear shaped.

I know you really dig doing things in the hardest manner possible. Im warped the same way, but dont you or your daddy have a running, driving motor grader? It seems like one of you all boys used one to move dirt and gravel on your lean to addition.

That did a fine job! Got a lot done so far. Do you need a grading permit for all that work in your area?

What is a "bowl", and what are you going to do with it? Is it a building pad, a parking lot, a field to grow vegetables?

THANKS FOR THE INFO- I HAVE A BLADE LIKE THIS AND AM TRYING TO LEVEL OUT MY RIDING ARENA FROM A SANDY DIRT THEY JUST DUMPED IN THE CENTER OF MY ARENA AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING IT 3' LEVEL ACROSS AND LENGHT WISE. I KEEP HAVING A SPECIFIC PLACE THAT STILL HOLDS WATER- HOW DO I USE MY BLADE TO LEVEL IT OUT? FRONT DRAG OR REAR PUSH?

Why not get the smaller rocks out of your rock piles and use them for a road base/foundation, fo put the gravel on? Add clay and gravel on top and you have a clay Macadamised road!
