It was scary hearing that sound when I tried to start it. I am glad I didn't instantly start buying new parts. Not knowing what I am doing, I assumed it was the starter or the solenoid, ended up being a super easy fix!

Started with the simple things first! Always the right way to address problems. 😊

Years ago I was having an issue with my 8n where it would start but would stall out after a minute or so. A friend of mine who does small engine repair told me before starting it to take a hammer and give the carburetor a couple of whacks. There is a cork ball float in the carb that gets stuck and the taps on the carb free it up. It works for me! I keep a stubby hammer in the tool box.🙂

Last Summer I converted my 49 8N to a 12 volt electronic ignition system with a can coil. Best thing I ever did! The only time I have not had it start right up is the other day when i forgot to turn the key first.

I thought I would mention that on a 6Volt battery when you charge it it boils and if you drive it on slopes it will seep so a little grease on the terminals will keep it from corrosion and if the battery has lost water it is very important to replace the water up to the proper level on all 3 caps and it must be BATTERY WATER not tap water. Maybe you already know this but I thought I would mention it so you’re battery lasts longer 👍

Yeah man I love it. It has it's limitations but it's a work horse and mostly easy to work on.
