Awesome. We have an old 8N with original 4cyl. Reworked and bored out. All around a good tractor. Love to get a flathead V8 engine out of a dump truck from the 50's. Been looking everywhere.

ryaneldredpa They're all over the place! Hop on Facebook and follow the 1957-60 group or crown Vic swap group. Until I decided to do this with my second N, I wouldn't have known what to do with that low mileage engine. I have access to a beautiful 1959 grain truck with a 292 for just 1500$. It's so nice, you won't want to part it out lol.

That's great! Even though those old engines didn't advertise much horsepower, I'm sure it makes way more than enough torque. The WW2 era 2.5 ton 6x6 wheel drive military trucks produced only a listed 91.5hp. But obviously horsepower isn't the important factor with large trucks and tractors.
@DesertDigger19 жыл бұрын
I've seen hundreds of 8n's,9n's and 2n's,but none as bad as that one. The front 30's wheels are the kicker. Nice.

Not impressed by V8 converts of the fergy or ford fergy , But this is a great balance bloody fast , fantastic components staying with the production era. YOU have changed my thinking today. I am not sure if I'm happy about that but Congrats, its a real impressive concoction- Always have been a fan of olive.

Very cool machine. Did you make the adaptors to mount 32-35 Ford wire wheels to 8N or did you buy them somewhere? What is brand of the knobby tires on the front end and dimensions please?
@keithrodgers88089 жыл бұрын
yes it would plow all day,i think the trans would hold up fine, if not abused, and it has run all day with out overheating. has also done parades, with out overheating. i used the correct parts building it.

@derekstocker66617 жыл бұрын
What a phenominal piece of kit! Really superb, looks and sounds the part BUT why do I always feel that a tractor would get better "traction" if the back tyres were mounted around the other way so that they dig in rather than slide over the soil especially with a heavy plow or other equipment or even tree pulling? More of this please!
@PHIL52512 жыл бұрын
You would think that might be the case except for it would do the exact opposite of what you are thinking when the tires are facing the correct way they pull loose material away from the tires to get down to traction when you turn them around the other way it keeps the loose material and brings it to the center of the tire tire .
@derekstocker66612 жыл бұрын
@@PHIL5251 Thanks for that, it's something I have wondered about for decades!

This series of Ford tractor appears similar to a Fergie or early Massey. Are the engines interchangeable? Not a lot of older Ford tractors Down Under. Flathead Ferguson would be awesome.

I nearly choked on my apple when it took off down the road,why did tractors have doubled up wheels on the rear?
@denial5117 жыл бұрын
The rear duals are to reduce the soil compaction. Lets the crop grow better in the tractor's tire tracks. As well as giving the tractor a better chance of not sinking in soft, or muddy ground.
@robdavis49259 жыл бұрын
Sure hope you beefed up the brakes. Nice tractor

How does the Trans hold up to the new power?
@FlatBroke6124 жыл бұрын
Everything in the driveline of the N series tractors was built with massive overkill. I’ve only ever seen one fail due to water entering the shifter boot causing rust and freeze damage. I doubt you could hurt it even with a flathead V8.
@mckinzi110 жыл бұрын
does this still have the same gearing? how's starting off in high gear? I seem to recall you didn't shift the 8n like a car...just pick a gear and go the ford tractor was my first set of wheels....with a bush hog it stopped being fun after the first time around the field in the summer sun. wheeeee....crud.
