tappets are replaceable and dont last forever. i used to run just plain old 15w40 in mine back in the day and never had tappets rattle. at least not under 100k miles. Ford recommended oil changes every 6,000 miles/6 months (whichever was sooner) for these in the UK. stick to that and you shouldnt have many issues with tappets, apart from age. I have to admit, given that CATs werent a thing anyone had heard of in the 80s, im amazed anyone thought it worth mentioning it was a 'catless' stainless exhaust. personally, knowing what i know, (and seeing the price of them here in the UK) id have gone for an aftermarket ECU and EFi with throttle bodies to replace the K-Jetronic injection system, rather than twin carbs (im guessing twin 40s). the carbs are great, but throttle bodies sound the same, and you can sort the fuelling much easier and more accurately with EFI so get better efficiency (more power AND better fuel economy) than you can with carbs. VERY nice car though, and Sunburst red wasnt made for long on these before the 'bright' red became Rosso (then radiant red on later escorts)
