2022 Ford F 150 Lightning price is no longer what we expect because the Pro trim is sold out. In this video I talk about how much the Ford F-150 Lightning actually cost. I break down how much my dealer is charging me in fees, some fuel (charging) cost expectations, insurance, and loan interest. I am not a financial adviser, and these are just some of my findings and what I am practicing, so I hope this video serves you as a different perspective.

Man...daycare prices are the worst... I pay almost $1500/month...imagine the car,vacations I could buy with that money , or even reduce my debt on the house😔

I originally ordered my lariat loaded but then realized with the fancy tow package it pushed it from 79,900 to 82k and quickly changed my order to remove that option because if you go over $80k you lose the federal tax credit . So many people ordered it loaded and that one option actually cost them almost $10k 😮 After the price hike for the 2023 no lariats with extended range will qualify for the tax credit.

You calculated gas savings assuming gas is $3.50/gal. Here we are just over a month later and it easily $4,5,6+/gal with no real likelyhood of going down quickly. Even if you have to wait until Q3 to get your new EV, I'm sure the higher gas priced will make the switch to EV feel pretty good on the wallet. Thanks for the video!

Also no oil and filter change every 3 months , no radiator flush, and no transmission flush or filter change. With that kind of savings . Would it be better to pay for the larger battery. That way get a better resale value.

Great video - love your presentation and straight forward content. One thing you might consider. When you were scrolling down through the options, it looked like an upgrade to Pro Power Onboard could be had for $1070. So instead of 2.4kW, you'd have 9.6kW. Although there is a lot of excitement about the home backup through the charge port (with many more costs - home side as well), having the 7.2kW at the L14-30 connector in the bed of the truck will work fine for many backup needs. That might be well worth the $1K - fortunate that is not buried in an option package (at least it would seem so).

Hi Bill, thanks so much. I did consider 9.6 kW, but I convinced myself 2.4kW was enough for my use cases. You're right. $1K isn't much especially spread out throughout the monthly payment on a truck I will sell before paying it off. It's probably one of those "oh I wish I had that" scenario one day. It could be a good KZfaq topic once I get the truck as well, and if it comes up, I'll say Bill did mention this. :)

@@Wasabi9111 The 2.4kW gives you 120V outlets in the Frunk and inside the vehicle. With the 9.6kW Pro Power Onboard option, you also get outlets in the bed. And more importantly, the 30A 240V outlet (7.2kW). That can basically be used as a pretty high power backup generator - under the right conditions. Much more economical than the Intelligent Home Backup option through the charge cord, but a more manual thing just like setting up a portable generator.

I think EV-trucks great, and Ford has done a super job with this truck. I only have one question, if this truck is such demand (200,000 pre-order) why they are taking $7,500 out of my pocket to induce you to buy this truck. In addition, while I pay on average $700.00 per year in gas tax to maintain roads, as of now there is only an additional $70.00 per year addition for EV registration in my state.

Bingo! Also, with the Electric Grid already having major issues nationwide regarding said reliability / and with pre-scheduled brownouts in peak useage periods etc., how do those facts align with the New Green Deal folks wanting everyone to move over to Electric vehicles with the added burden the new electric vehicles will put onto the grid??? The electric vehicle technology is promising, but it is still is at least 15-20 years away from making any sense for most people to migrate over to and scrap their gasoline vehicles. Here in Texas, the distances required for daily travel are too great to overcome, and the recharging grid is spotty at best.

A very interesting breakdown, I tend to do the same when buying cars/trucks. 1:40 My daycare is 1600 a month! In regards to the buying experience, Ford is hinting they may sell direct instead of through stealerships. I think that would be wonderful.

Thank you! Toyota is a sleeping giant when it comes to electric vehicles. They'll give any EV auto company steep competition when Tacoma is available as an EV. When the pre-order opens I'll be ordering one just to hold the spot. :)

Here in CA right now…gas is almost $7/gal. So glad I switched to EV (Tesla Y) and got my delivery during the gas price increase. Saving me about $300 a month! Sheeesh!

You just need a 220v outlet. Any licensed electrician and install one

You can charge on a normal 120v outlet as well, will just charge super slow

Super simple I am far from an electrician and hooked everything up myself at home by researching what I needed! An extended adapter to the vehicle charger and back to the dryer plug and then a splitter adapter for the dryer and the charger to plug in at the same time, you just have to make sure your breaker is setup to handle that energy so maybe do research and or check with an electrician to be safe! Mine works great just can’t have both dryer running and vehicle charging at same time or breaker with flip!

While it's mostly just an inconvenience and eventual wear out and replacement of the breaker, you should have upgraded the connection to your subpanel or run it off the main panel

Seems like there are availability issues with EVs due to many reasons but one I keep noticing is that the demand is really high because people who can afford to spend that much on a truck, does so for the tax credit, to make videos about it (earn money on it), then sell it when the content starts to get less views. Many youtubers have been doing that, some youtubers have purchased every EV to have been released, they review it for a little while, take advantage of the tax credit and then take advantage of the low availability to make their money back on the car by selling a used vehicle at the inflated price. Some of you might say, "well whats wrong with that?!", and you're right. It's perfectly legal, but it's clear the tax credits aren't helping people into EVs, they're being abused so I believe the tax credits should be done away with completely. If rich people want to buy out all of the latest and greatest fine, but don't reward them with a juicy tax credit every time they do, that behavior is only incentivized that way.

Like you I ordered with the dealer and not online. I have a different viewing experience on my Ford account in the “Reservations & Orders” than those that ordered online. I can only see that I am ordering with a dealer and an image of the truck. It seems that the online orders are able to open the window to a timeline and view a progress bar of sorts. They also got an estimated delivery date of around 24 weeks. Is your situation the same as mine?

If you login to your account, yes only thing I see is an image of a truck and the line "ordering with dealer" with a little green dot. The email has the progress bar but it's not a real time image. They are all very basic without much info. I plan on calling Ford sales separately to see if all the info were put in by the dealer. If I find anything interesting, I'll try to make a video.

holy crap at the cost! i'm considering getting a mule instead. no insurance, no licensing, it's slow, but it's steady, reliable, no electrical/mechanical problems, don't have to pay for power (maybe a little grain) and they can go damn near anywhere. plus, they are kinda fun, and will protect your property.

I installed my own 50 amp RV Outlet - with about 35’ of wire, 50 amp breaker & outlet box. Around $275. +/-. If your not comfortable doing electric work, hire an electrician.

How long do the batteries really last 10 yrs, 7 yrs? Would be nice to know how the EV vehicles hold up 10-15 yrs from now. Do you swap out the battery and call it a day or will you be stuck trading the vehicle in for a newer model? So many questions only time can tell.

Just checking now, you can price out a Base Lightning Pro but no extended battery. Thats all I would want but thats not currently an option. Good thing I wolnt be in a position to buy for a few more years.

30 minutes after they announced the truck. 😁 At least you got your reservation. Some dealerships are telling customers which wave they are in. It will depend on how many reservation your dealership has also.

I just got my invitation to convert my reservation into an order about 1 hour ago as part of wave 3. I originally wanted the Pro version, but as you mentioned it is still not available for ordering. So, I am tempted to get the standard XLT version even though it is about $13k more than the Pro. The problem is we don’t know when the Pro will be available again and time is running out for the $7.5k tax credit. I am thinking that with the tax credit and additional standard options on the XLT over the Pro, that the price difference might not be much of a deal. Any thoughts/advice on this? Thanks.

Hey congrats on your invitation to convert. That's great news. That was my thought process exactly. The Pro trim and XLT price gap is smaller due to the possible tax credit (even if it's $3750) this year. Reality is, "right now" XLT 311A is the cheapest EV truck that we can own and drive this year. Even if the next model year Pro is available again to order, it will be too highly sought out, and if the price remains similar, Ford is not going to produce a lot of them. That price solely existed to combat Cybertruck's starting price. For many of us, chance of getting the Pro trim is still too low even for next year. No matter when you get an electric truck, within next couple years, I don't think we are going to pay lot less than what it is right now. Sure there is also the possibility that uncle Sam may create another tax incentive in the future, but that's a big maybe. To me, it was important to be able to have a vehicle soon and also experience the very first eclectic F150 (even with some first model year pains). I'm currently without a truck, so that played a big part of it. Your case may be different and I'm sure in the end you'll do what's best for your case, but you got that early reservation! That's a huge win.

So it looks like I may have an opportunity to purchase a Pro (once it becomes available) with a $20K markup. Trying to talk him down a little bit, but wondering if it's worth it or not (especially since Ford just raised the price on the MY23 models). Should I just wait until I get a reservation and can order one myself (and take advantage of the point of sale $7500 discount) or buy this one now with a mark up but get the $7500 tax credit?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but u think the 230mile estimate for the batter is based on the truck already having a 1000lb payload. So the tow package makes sense to me if that’s the case

I was invited to order my truck. But only Lariat and Platinum is available this wave. I don’t think my dealer will make me sign the no resale agreement, so I’m thinking about flipping it. Looks like the $7,500 tax credit will still be available for me?

Also after reading this from the government website it sounds like the reduction in tax credit is not immediate upon hitting the 200k, it is delayed 2 quarters. "The qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicle credit phases out for a manufacturer’s vehicles over the one-year period beginning with the second calendar quarter after the calendar quarter in which at least 200,000 qualifying vehicles manufactured by that manufacturer have been sold for use in the United States (determined on a cumulative basis for sales after December 31, 2009) (“phase-out period”). Qualifying vehicles manufactured by that manufacturer are eligible for 50 percent of the credit if acquired in the first two quarters of the phase-out period and 25 percent of the credit if acquired in the third or fourth quarter of the phase-out period. Vehicles manufactured by that manufacturer are not eligible for a credit if acquired after the phase-out period."

I was thinking similar now for Silverado EV. The line is long and distinguished. It will be a long wait. There is a chance however you may find some EV trucks in the lot in some rare occasions (once the production starts). The ones that people could not afford and cancelled last minute. I’m sure the dealers would put a hefty price on those. There is always RAM when they are ready for their electric truck. 😁

I think they stopped taking reservations at 200,000. I believe there was an article saying they're trying to ramp up production to 180,000 by the end of 2023. Nobody knows how many reservations will convert to orders. Given the price and dealer market adjustment fees I'm guessing you could get one before the end of 2023. You might also try to work out a deal with somebody that made a reservation but lost interest or can't afford it. I reserved one June 1st but lost interest when they released the prices. Wasn't expecting a $32,500 price jump over the Pro to get an XLT extended range. Each dealer is supposed to get one display / mannequin vehicle that they can sell after 6 months. Who knows what the markup will be on those but that'll be an option for some people.

Most people do it wrong. You have to have a tax liability to take advantage of any of it. If you owe the IRS $1000. You only get $1000 of the $7500. If you owe $7500. Then you get the full. However if you have a credit. You get $0

I'm curious what is driving you to sell a year and change after owning. Why? I buy cars and run them into the ground for years - I just don't know why someone would buy a vehicle they know they're going to sell at a loss.

Good question. I plan on making a video about that. Some of the reasons involve this channel and how my intention is to make videos about the new EV trucks and help people decide on their purchase. Within next year or two, there are going to be a lot more choices in EV trucks.

The extended battery will be a killer for Ford. They really are price gauging for more range which should be included or cost no more than $5k 🤦🏾‍♂️. The 230 mile range is ass

When I was on last night looking it said they start at 39,xxx before tax and fees but then you add in the rebates.

Hi Eric! Yeh once the base model is available again, there is a chance Ford will increase that starting price. We'll see if the EV tax credit is still available when that happens. This is the credit that will be given back to you if you paid the government that amount or more in tax that year. I'll probably do an updated video on that. Thanks for watching this video!

I don't think the Tax Credit will reduce your monthly obligation. Tax Credit comes at the end of the year as a one time credit when you file your taxes. What you owe month to month will not change unless you ask the lender to apply that payment directly to the principle that you owe and have them re-calculate your monthly payments.

Correct. I’m not saying the tax credit is instant and will reduce your car payment directly. I’m just putting more towards my down payment now “knowing that I will have some cash within a year or so”. That’s just my comfort level on how soon I want to replenish my bank account. 😄

Try a find one and the dealers are up charging way more then it's worth also you have charge it your electric bill will go up alot . And what good is a truck you can't tow with and you might get 200 miles to a charge

On the flip side Ford is offering the 1994 Ford Taurus for anyone who has 500$. Which comes with 4 tires, 2 cigarette lighters and doors that lock. No shoes or shirts necessary to enter the building and there's a bowl of candy inside too they say.

They need to build a Ford travel trailer combo. The travel trailer would have it's own large battery bank and drive motor that works in tandem with the throttle input from the truck. Thereby increasing your range when towing because the Ford designed travel trailer is its own powertrain and assists in pushing. Imagine seeing a truck w/travel trailer attached go 0-60mph in 4 seconds. Wo baby. Not to mention you could camp for a couple weeks maybe longer with the added battery capacity from the trailer.

@@mruiz8607 Mr. Ruiz, my suggestion was to have the electric RV travel trailer have it's own electric motor and batteries that works with the trucks throttle so both motors are working together. This makes it so you're not towing any weight really because the travel trailer is virtually pushing itself.

You won’t even get 230. The number is based on slow highway miles. Once you take into account the wind resistance, you’ll get closer to 180-190. I found this out when I drove my brother-in-law’s Tesla to a 180 mile commute going 75-80 mph and I hit 5% battery life, but the Tesla was rated for 240 miles. I don’t think EV vehicles are there yet for long range use.

@@dontrom1588 yeah I think EV vehicles are for short distances only. Nobody talks about how severely the range suffers on any speed above 65 mph. Don’t even get me started on road trips. People talk about it only taking 30-45 min to charge the car, but they don’t mention the long lines. That will change over time as they get more charging stations, but as it stands now, charging stations are very inconvenient as well.

He does live streams on Tuesdays and I've been watching those the last couple months, keeping updated on the Ford Maverick information and other vehicles. This wave is barely starting, as battery technology improves and competition increases we’ll see new trucks with those ranges at these same prices. It’s just a matter of us waiting it out for years

real truck should tow 400 miles. not just empty. So if you do the Watts math they would near have 2x what they have now in the extended range. So a Ev truck that is not just toy truck will cost? 150,000? How does that save money in fuel if that payment is say 1700 a month + INS+ registration.

@@mruiz8607 this is why I bought a GMC 2500HD Diesel. Yes it cost $68k but a comparable optioned EV starts at $105+k. Even with diesel at $5/gal. It's over 7000 gallons of fuel cost in difference. That's 7-9 years worth of fuel. What will the value of a 7-9 year old EV pickup be worth considering it will be soon due for a battery replacement? My diesel will still be purring like a kitten and still able to tow 20000 pounds with a 600+ mile range.

Hey Francisco, this was the response I wrote: "Hey Francisco, if you are willing to drive that far, ideally you want to find a dealership that can officially write you a buyer's order sheet with all the fees. This dealership would not. I would also not consider little initialed paper as guarantee MSRP. Many dealerships are charging MSRP especially after that warning from Ford to dealerships. You'll be able to find one in Ohio if you call or email around. One good initial way to see is to go to each of the dealership website and see how much cars are marked up already on their website. If you see $3K-5K + markups already on their existing inventory, that's a red flag before even talking to them." The reason why I am not publicly stating what dealership this is to have the option of documenting both great and bad side of things. My intention isn't to get someone in trouble but to give everyone a good wide perspective on what is happening.

@@EVTruckLOG maaaaan I want to tow the crap of the lighting ⚡️I could tell you this I had maaaad problems with my 2018 f150 When I bought it from a dealership. The truck would turn off while driving, it would not start, the transmission would kick, it took two years for the dealership to fix my AC & my hood latch would would open randomly. So I Expect nothing but issues with the lighting but I’m a sucker for bad bitches with attitude 😂

As part of Wave 3, I ended up submitting the order online to convert my reservation after paying the $500 deposit. Two things I wanted to point out, you may be aware of them: 1) It was not clear to me that there were 3 steps to actually ordering the Lightning: a. Place the reservation online - done May 2021, b. Convert reservation to an order - done today 3/4/22 and c. My dealer will receive the converted order and IT WILL SIT there at the dealership until Ford opens up the ordering process for them to manually enter my order into the system to start the production process for the truck. This step my dealer predicts will probably occur in May/June of this year And 2) The full Federal EV tax credit will probably run out later this year for Ford after reaching the 200,000 sold units, BUT we will get an extra quarter after the quarter in which the 200k limit is reached before 1/2 of the credit kicks in. For example, say Ford were to reach the 200k in 3rd quarter 2022, that means we would still qualify for full $7,500 during the whole 4th quarter 2022. Then beginning in 1st quarter 2023, the credit would drop to $3,750. Any ideas on this stuff.

You have to have a tax liability of at least $7500 to get the full credit. It’s not a pure $7500 credit. If you owe the IRS 5000. Then max is 5000. If you owe $0. You get no $7500

9.5k for upgrade in rims and tires alone? You can spend literally less then half that for custom rims and tires that look good, and still stand up properly. The dealerships are way out of wack with thier pricing. New, used, service, parts. Way overpriced.

The Mach E doesn't qualify for the tax credit, it's made in Mexico, so those sales don't count.

You mean for the $12,500 EV tax credit under Build Back Better act. Which if passed is only for cars built by unionized us factories. Seems like a no brainer to me, pro model lightning with most upgrades comes to approximately $45k ordered then the tax refunds you’re winning over buying a Tesla or any other EV from the research I’ve done and it’s a truck so you’re winning but the fact it’s a ford is the only downfall lmfao, so better get a good warranty!
