Thank you! I have a 2018 F-150 STX and this video really helped me replace my starter myself. My original starter would drag at first start (like the battery was dying) and after a short drive to the store it would not start till after a 45 min to 60 min cool down. Ford Motorcraft really got the original starter wrong, my truck had been doing this since 60K miles.

Great Video thank you... question... where is the ground wire?
@theguyofalltrades6 ай бұрын
Thanks! The ground is the case of the starter. There is a ground lead to the engine block and chassis from the battery

Looks like I have the same problem. That 12 volt field wire looks pretty bad on my 2017 f150. I know the battery and relay are good.

That’ll do it. Haven’t had any issues since I replaced it. I used a duralast from autozone since I was in a pinch too. I was reluctant to not use a ford part but it’s been fine.

How did you reach the top bolt on the starter ?and will it be the same for a 2015
@theguyofalltrades19 күн бұрын
It should be almost identical on the 2015. I think 2015-2022 are all the same. You may need an extension or universal for the top bolt. Bottom bolt definitely needed a deep socket

I have a 2010 5.4 and changing the starter on this model is a nightmare it's extremely tough getting the top bolt and if it's rusted it's almost impossible

Definitely tight in there

There’s definitely cussing involved. What issues are you having?

I ended up getting it after persuading it with a pry bar.

I can imagine if there was any corrosion it might be a pain the break loose. Hardest part for me was getting it out from behind the frame cross member
