My wife's 2008 Focus had the same vibration at idle. The passenger side engine mount fixed it! When I pulled that mount out, it looked fine and felt fine, but after watching this video I replaced it anyway, and that fixed it! Before that, I'd replaced the transmission mount, which looked bad because its rubber had separated from the metal and the rubber was "squished" to the point of being almost metal-on-metal, but that made no change. I got under the car, removed the roll restrictor (perhaps that's the "torque mount" in this video?) then started the engine, but it still vibrated so I figured that wasn't the problem, so I put it back in. After "googling" the problem, finding this video, I changed that passenger side mount, and now the car idles as smooth as a new car. I wouldn't have guessed it was that passenger side mount, but it was! Thanks for sharing this video.

I just had to replace my motor mounts on my 08 focus as well . These cars are great and don't get enough credit for how long they are able to last . My 07 focus has 278,000 miles on it and it's still going strong , my 08 has had a little more issues but it's still awesome to me .

@@databits Ive had my vibrating steering wheel for the past 3 years and never thought it was urgent but glad I fixed it! It was a worn out engine mount that never got changed so that changed my car and I only have 65690 km on it! so that is only 40817.874 miles if I convert it for you!

Watched some videos on KZfaq and was able to fix all three myself in 90 minutes on my 2008 with 60,000 miles. 3 mounts cost $120 total at my local auto parts shop. Saw the mounts on ebay for $50 but didn't want to wait to get the job done. Runs smooth now.

I just bought a 2008 Ford focus, I found the mounts on several websites all around 60$ and am replacing them myself, they're relatively easy, you just slide the old ones out and the new ones in, it saved me a lot of money rather than taking it to get it done, but the mounts they used at the time were gel, so you can expect to replace them a few times

Good luck with the repair on the 2007 Focus, my 2008 still annoyed me after the motor mount replacement, so I sold it. It also "chopped" up back tires within no time and the air conditioner worked when it felt like it.
@bgroicahn

Rear tire chop is very likely a bad bushing or wheel bearing.

we had no noise coming from our perfectly serviced 122,000 mile van. When the transmission went out, the van still sounded great, we just couldn't move forward only backwards. Well, during our inspection they told us that our 2000 Ford Windstar needed a new motor mount, which was recalled in 2002. Well, we had them put a new motor mount in and they rebuilt our transmission for $2200. Well on our drive home from the shop, the dash and passenger drive door and seat vibrated. It is annoying and I don't know how they missed it if they test drove it....unless it decided to reveal itself with just us driving.

I am hoping the slight vibration and buzzing is the motor mounts. I just need to invest in a jack that will hold engine while I swap it out. The mount you showed us is the easiest one to fix on my 05 I registered today has the radiator fluid reservoir above it. I am looking at cv axles as a possible cause because I notice a slight rocking of the steering wheel. That would be 100 for parts 150 for labor and then might as well do the bearings. On this car, I look forward to change plugs again,easy access. The 178,000 buzzing car does make noise but it does zip along fine and the top notch stereo can drown it out if need be.

+lightningsmokerXx So apparently these cars have a big issue with this. At only 49,000kilometers I replaced The Main Gel/hydraulic mount on the same side as your coolant bottle and the dog bone mount underneath and that took away pretty much most of the vibration. There is a 3rd mount which is a transmission mount somewhere under the air box side.

+databits Ya for me at 49,000km /12,000miles i've had to replace on a 2008 Ford Focus SE - sway bar links, rusted out brakes, 2 motor mounts, lower control arm bushings are shot pretty much right about now. Suspension wise this thing was built like crap. I definitely wouldn't own another Focus. It was bought by my 60 year old mother new and never driven like a hot rod, and always serviced at the dealer. I think unfortunately after this 08 and 2012 dodge with issues also bought new we are going Japanese next time.

Hi all. OK, where to start.... Engine and transmission mounts need to be replaced regularly. It is part of the maintenance. They are only good for a certain mileage. Same goes for your timing belt and water pump. Same goes for your wheel bearings. Yes, wheel bearings go bad and need to be replaced also. Just like doing a tune up with plugs and wires, you know when that time comes up and oh don't forget the fluid changes, engine oil and filter and trans oil and filter and the coolant and thermostat. Brakes. Everything here mentioned is part of the maintenance of the car and the list goes on. Grease ball joints, fuel pump and regulator etc.... I hate to say it but there are a lot of people that just hop in the car and drive and think that just checking engine oil and putting gas in the tank is all they need to do. If you wait until one of the components above fail then it creates a chain reaction which will cost more to fix. So, remember maintain your vehicle properly no matter what make it is and it will last a long time.

Too bad for me, I have a 1994 Escort 1.9 that does the same thing, but I changed out all of the mounts with no change. I was told that automatic transmissions had this problem. I tend to believe that because any manual transmission I had ran smooth. Also 4 cylinder engines have more vibration due to uneven cylinder firing (inline placement). A V-6 won't do this. Anyway, A waste of money for my repair job. Can't afford a different car. Glad it worked tho.

247, 000 miles and only NOW you're getting some signs that you just need to change a inexpensive $10 or so valve cover gasket and engine mount?!? AMAZING!! Lol, I think you might get some haters for your good fortune. Jokes aside, I'm glad the vehicle has been able to give you that incredible amount of low maintenance dependable service. I bet she can easily go another hundred thousand+ after performing high mileage maintenance.
@bmpman
@bmpman 7 жыл бұрын
It just shocks me that so many thing are going wrong with her car and it's only got 114,000 miles on it. Also he key ignition switch is either sticking or wearing out on top of some how the window seal in her car is bent for no reason and makes the window squeak. To top it off she also needs a new temp sensor because her gauge for that it all messed up to.
@DonnieDarko1
@DonnieDarko1 7 жыл бұрын
+Bmp-man interesting. I wonder if she's stayed up on all her regular schedule maintenance. I suppose there maybe some overheating going on but wasn't being detected by sensor or sensor malfunctioned some time ago and she continued driving under those conditions. I've known people who outside of just changing their motor oil, completely forget that they have other fluids that need to be regularly changed as well, like anti-freeze/coolant, brakes, tranny fluid, etc. I'm currently fixing up a friends 2000 toyota corolla and just like in your case, it has made it to 230-ish,000 miles. The difference being, it's been relatively poorly maintained and only now have I gotten her up to snuff so my buddy can have safer drive. I was amazed at the level of performance it's delivered just by recent relatively inexpensive tune up I made which happen to include changing out the old valve cover gasket. I found this video because I've noticed a very subtle, almost negligible, vibration emanating from passenger side glove compartment box area and my KZfaq search got me here. I've suspected it but I'm now quite certain, its probably the engine mount rubber finally showing some signs of age. For 230,000+, it has provided remarkable service. At this point, it's not terrible and so I'm thinking about leaving it alone but at least I know what the sound and culprit is. Anyway, outside of those things and a few neglected suspension work I've done on her that shouldve been addressed 100, 000 miles ago, she too,has been surprisingly dependent and economical, and can probably go additional 50,000 or who knows, another 100,000 though she might be pushing it since I suspect the water pump hasn't been changed.
@bmpman
@bmpman 7 жыл бұрын
Well she's taken care of it for the most part. But it really says something about who works on her car (firestone) because I think you're right as far as the overheating problem goes. But soon it will either be fixed or she'll get a truck.

Good diagnoses and fix, but damn you got ripped off for that price. A good mechanic that charges an average rate of $80/hour should take no longer than an hour to fix this, especially with their power tools. The parts themselves range from $30 to $90. Realistically should’ve been a $200 -250 charge. I’d be curious to know what’s the charges were written up as

@@DavidB-rx3km I wasn't trying to give him a grammar lesson! When do people care about how words are spelled on the internet you obviously knew what I meant but had to take precious time out of your very important day to correct someone on the internet you must be butt hurt about something if not! You have a long road ahead correcting all the incorrect selling online! Good luck with that!

Actually the part costs around $135 from Ford. I happened to just find it for $100 online from a discount dealership. Nowhere near $45. Also before you say get an aftermarket one it's been proven that the aftermarket passenger mounts only last a few months. They're garbage.

they charged you way to much what a rip off . and this is why I do all my own repairs this is maybe a 30-minute job not a lot of tools I have done a few on my 03 focus wagon very common problem u need a floor jack and a piece of wood it goes under the oil pan there are 3 15 mm bolts and 2 18 mm nuts that come off the studs go on youtube and watch the videos made by brien and ron 2 guys who take you step by step just type in ford focus engine mount replacement and scroll until you find them you can do this job yourself and save so much money

databits I hate the engine mount issue with these cars but honestly other than that I'm in love with the 08 I drive, its fast as fuck for a stock 4 banger it runs good it drives in a semi straight line when it pleases due to the roads I drive and other than I gotta watch and make sure the alinement stays correct on it I just change the oil and keep driving.

@@westernstartruck2528 178,000 miles on mi 2008 focus. Litle vibration but not big deal. No mayor probles, still runs well (28MPG Combined) and do not burns oil at all. Not better than toyotas Corrolas, But a lot cheaper when you buy second hand.
