My Ford Focus mk3 had a wet boot carpet from rain water leaking into the boot / trunk area. In this episode I cover all the main leak locations, and show the solutions to stop water ingress into the boot area for the 4 problem areas I had on my Focus 2011 model! So if you've already fixed the vents and still get water leaks, then this is the video for you! Same for pre facelift Focus's 2011, 20012, 2013, 2014. Includes interior strip down footage, rear vents behind bumper, seam sealer issues, hidden sealer splits etc.
The only leak I didn't experience is from the rear light cluster foam seals to the bodywork. I used silicone sealant / adhesive for the vents behind bumper and Tiger seal for the seam sealing.

I can confirm that it has been 6 months since I filmed this episode and the boot of the Focus is leak free. Was a bit of a mission to find all the issues, but now more than happy with the fix. 😁

Absolutely ridiculous that Ford’s substandard materials and workmanship results in so many potential leak areas in the trunk compartment of this vehicle. Thanks for your persistence in identifying and repairing so many possible problem spots. Hats off to you from across the pond. Cheers!!

Thank you brother. Yes it is very frustrating to have to deal with these issues. If I were to put a positive spin on it though, the issues are very easy to fix with basic tools and cheap materials. Unfortunately most moden cars have common issues like this or worse no matter who builds them. Give me some mid 90's Toyota quality any day!

Just done my in laws' 2014. I knew about the vents leaking but pulled the roof trims off to have a look & sure enough, cracked seam sealer & paint. Now to get the interior out to dry it & recheck for anything further. Great stuff, thanks for the tip off! 👍

This video is really informative. I had the same issue last winter. Lots of condensation inside the windows and the carpet on the driver's side absolutely soaked. I managed to locate the leakage points on those upper lap joints and I've also removed the rear bumper and dumped the soundproofing material from behind those pressure vents. Wet and dry vac to remove all the water from the carpet. Luckily the passenger side was dry. I had the carpet lifted and supported plus I placed a 12 volt waterproof heat pad under various areas of the carpet. Unfortunately, the under carpet soundproofing is very thick in parts and had acted like a sponge. I don't have a garage so it took around 6 weeks to dry out. The other problem which can arise, is the problem of mold. ThIs can be a nightmare to remove. A good brand of all purpose cleaner (with no bleach) is the way to eradicate the mold. It's a very tedious and time consuming process but once everything starts to dry out, then it's well worth the effort. Shame on Ford and other car manufacturers for producing such poor design and construction.
@dan91sgarage
@dan91sgarage 7 ай бұрын
Agreed, definitely best to get stuck in early. The first signs of heavy condensation on the rear window inside is the tell tale sign. Thankfully mine never got to the mouldy stage although there was a slight whiff which started me off looking for the problems. I used paper kitchen towels to soak up the majority of the liquid and then propped the plastic boot liners open and used a hair drier to dry out the inside materials. Thankfully I have a garage I can work in to let the sealant set and dry the interior out easier, on the street in winter is a much bigger challenge. Thanks for the comment. 👍

Just bought Ford focus 15 plate. Had it 2 weeks. Got into the car and the windscreen was covered in a lot of condensation. Than found the problem when taking somet out of the boot. Left side panel was mouldy and drenched. Booked into my local garage but now after watching this video and others I think I can sort it myself and pretty sure it’s those vents behind the boot that are the issue. Great video mate 👌🏻

Sealed the pressure vents today using white silicone, they are a pig to do since so many components need to be removed to access them. Hardest part was getting the side trim to fit again. If I knew these were prone to leaks I wouldn't have bothered getting one.

Check the rubber boot seal around the boot opening is sealed to the body as they can leak here (mine did). Also the rear light clusters have foam seals where the bolts pull them onto the body and they can leak here too.
