I've done multiple 800km trips in my Mach-E GT. The trick is to take advantage of the fattest part of the charging curve on the first charging stop. That means doing about 250km, then stopping for 15 minutes for a rest break while charging back to 80%, then driving another 250km before doing a 40 minutes charge to 80% or more. The nice thing is that a longer lunch stop of 45+ minutes charge gets you to >90% pretty easily.

The charging curve really depends on the starting level. As far as I remember, it will always start with the 2 minute/150 kW peak if you're below 50%. So it might be faster when you plug in with higher state of charge. When I compare it with a recent session of my Mach-E (RWD ER) from 24 to 81%, it took on your July session from Minute 7 to Minute 46 => 39 minutes, my session took only 33 minutes. I also had a longer session last Friday, from 8 to 92% which took 59 minutes. In your July session it took 63 minutes from 10 to 92%. There might also be some different charging curves around. But anyway, it doesn't really bother me. Did a 12.000 km roadtrip with the old/slow charging curve and never had the urge to go above 80%. The RWD is also fairly efficient, so I keep enjoying it. In fact, most of the time I charge too much because I'm still not done when I could leave.

I thought in the long run I would only charge to 80 anyway. The throttling to 11KW is probably also very battery-friendly. Now with a lower charging power to 80% it is even worse on long-distance. Consume a lot and charge slowly, grab a pony! - Ford 2022

Bjørn what about Ford transit E. Der is many handicapped der use fossil Ford transit because they don't know anything about E cars. It will be a very big help if you make a video about the big Ecar. Thanks

I think the best way to charge this car is to just buy a new one every time you get too low because the charging speed is dead slow even compared to the etron or i pace which came out years ago.

Good luck with the Ioniq 5 in winter ;) The time you save in summer, you will need in winter.

@@lucas7793 I had it last winter, I bought it on 2/17/22 and we have 17,000 miles on it. In the winter it still charges faster than the Mach E. It starts about 90kW and goes up from there as soon as the pack warms up it goes to about 125kw and holds that to 82%. Also the 2022 Ioniq 5 AWD's have heat pumps and there is a possibility that Hyundai could turn on battery preconditioning in the AWD cars since the 2023 will come with it.

Just so poor, what Ford has done here ... almost every manufacturer has reached 80% within about 30min, never more than 40min

You need to try the Korean cars with the 800V E-GMP platform. The Legacy car makers have better car stuff like ride fit and finish, the non legacy carmakers have better software, but really it's all about the battery systems.

Charging rates' measurement needs to be standardized to use average between 0 and 100 for all manufacturers. This Ford curve is a total joke; Ford did this so they can legally state the charging rate is 150 KWs, yet the average is far, far lower. I'll never buy one.

I get the 100 m sprint perpetual Olympic here. Of more interest to me is the evidence for how these sessions affect battery capacity (I.e. asset value), and I’m not even a boomer. Is NCM (as in all the H/K and other K-supplied OEMs) now not being killed by 200+ kW, especially on regular basis? This feels childish, unless the product has dramatically improved, which is worthy of its own celebration - but isn’t that LFP, or Na, as Farley’s team indicated on Munro a day ago? Self-destruction of NCMs will get their owners what they deserve - or someone should tell these people in advance so we don’t get misselling-type lawsuits. Or perhaps these trusting types get something akin to our 2011 LEAF - 30%+ deg. Not all the OEMs are building cars with longevity as a priority.
