In this very special episode of Kidd in a Sweet Shop, I'm at my pub meeting with Jim Farley, the President and CEO of Ford! Together we chat about Jim's role as CEO, before taking a tour of a selection of past & present Ford models, as well as taking a drive in one of the company's finest new EVs. Sit back, relax, and enjoy this one!

I love that the Ford children kept the American tradition and dream alive, through thick and thin. Unlike Cincinnati Milacron for example. Edsel Ford was good, but died early. Henry II powered forward and kept it going.

What an interesting guy. Got cars running in his bloodstream. A lot of people think of Ford being as much a British company, as American. Most have owned/driven a Ford at some time in their life and a huge number of classic examples are kept going by enthusiasts. Amazing to think the British designed Transit had such a large market share back in the day. So pleased that Ford have not sold out of UK/Europe, the way GM did with Vauxhall. Looks as though the future of Ford is in good hands.

Who else but our Jodie would be able to conjure an interview, so down to earth and honest, with the head of a global car manufacturer?? Thoroughly enjoyable! Watch the glasses of water on the table; these people are so absorbed with the subject and each other, no-one stops for even a sip... Amazing. We could listen for hours. One small correction; the Transit was a huge seller in Australia too.

Getting the CEO of Ford and showing off their history and their current cars could be seen as a long commercial but Jodie makes it just a great show for car people all over the world. Hey Jodie only just found your channel a week or so ago. Been really enjoying your videos. This one is my favourite. He is a top man and love the history of ford and there plans. I grow up in Essex and spent 40 years of my 47 in Essex. My uncle worked at Dagenham all his life. My nan use live in south ockendon just behind fords avo centre. When I was a child use get train up to see nan with my mum and we use work past ford avo. Where ford turned escorts into escort Mexico’s. And my last years in Essex was in dunton. Only a mile from fords main site where all the magic happens. Use see ford testing the cars on my road. Lower dunton road. I feel I have ford running in my blood. Had mk1 escorts. Rs’s. Amazing company. So glad to see an amazing man running the show and love to see how big part Essex has and is playing to keep ford on top there games. Thanks for this video! X

What an interesting guy. His career was certainly an Adventure into the motor industry. A a real petroleum head at that , but should I say he’s a bright spark these days with changing times! Brings back wonderful memories for me Jodie, as I once owned a Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico , AAY180K . Bought her privately from a gent in Bournville , Birmingham , painted half blue , half Diamond White. Had her 12months , as ever, a simply engineered car but so highly effective , as old Fords were in their day. Great vid once again , Jodie

I used to work at Ford of Europe and was lucky enough to watch the announcement of Jim Hackett to CEO in the same room as Farley, as he got shipped off from Europe to go and run the US. The guy was beaming from ear to ear, he knew his role for the top job was only a matter of time. Ford of Europe is a great company from the outside and do produce some market leading products in transit and Ranger, but career wise its shocking, hopefully through Jim's changes it guts all the old guard waiting for their final salary pensions, they get fresh blood in and actually push them up the company... me think's he'll be thinking about his bonus more though.

Hi the midnight tavern I’m sure you will enjoy your new fords ( both of them ) for a long time , its great to have so much to choose from different manufacturers , I now run a Toyota hilux 2.4D 23 model and it’s really nice , before this car I had a Honda CRV 1.6D and that was an amazing car for such a small engine, and for the 25 years before these cars I had 3 Citroen diesels and 3 Peugeot diesel cars all without any major problems, to be honest I don’t think there are any bad cars around nowadays ,

@@davidpattison5860 Thank you for your kind words, I agree with your assessment. Lemons will always be a thing unfortunately, the 1 or 2% of consumers who have issues with a certain model, but cars as a whole are quite reliable now. Seems like you've had an impression collection of cars yourself with plenty of diversity. I wish we had the option to buy more french cars in the states, I absolutely love Citroen. Their brand always brings such a unique perspective to the industry in terms of engineering and design, we need more of that.

We in the US appreciate that he brought the Fiesta here in 2010. I bought a 2011 Fiesta SE, but really wanted an ST and could not afford one at the time. I just recently purchased an ST, but was forced to get a used one because Ford quit selling "cars" in the USA. I would like to know why I can't by a new Fiesta! The Mach E is actually an electric Ford Escape crossover SUV. Ford wisely didn't call it the "Escape E" for obvious reasons! The Mach E looks nothing like a sports car or the Mach 1 Mustang from the 70's. I hope that a redesigned Mach E variant is coming that looks more like a Mustang. What I really want is an all wheel drive 350 hp Fiesta RS! Thanks Jodie, another great interview! 🙂👍

Hey Jodie, What an wonderful interview. Jim Farley is just the loveliest person. His back story including his racing history and knowledge of the brand is amazing. As for the Electric cars that Ford are now producing, this is also very interesting, even for those of us with pure petroleum in our veins.

I’m from UK, and the American friends I have are always astounded when I tell them the average mpg I get from my car (Volvo). At around the 13:30 mark, he explains that he basically saved Ford Motor Company, by selling Americans, European cars and vans. Think about that? Up to that point, what were the design and marketing people getting paid for at that company? Ford were effectively building cars, that their customers didn’t really want. They had been doing that for so long, that they had driven the company to the point of bankruptcy, BUT WERE ALREADY MAKING A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL RANGE OF VEHICLES in Europe, that US customers weren’t aware existed, but suited their needs perfectly? I suppose America is a strange place?
