FULL BOOSTED RESULTS. SHORTY & LONG-TUBE HEADERS, TB, BLOWER PULLEY AND COMP XE262AH CAMS. THE SHM 4.6L 2V TEST MOTOR WAS GIVEN THIS SERIES OF BOLT-ON MODS, INCLUDING BOOST FROM THE FORD RACING SUPERCHARGER. BEFORE THAT, WE TESTED SHORTY AND LONG-TUBE HEADERS, THEN AFTER THE BLOWER, SWAPPED ON A LARGER THROTTLE BODY, CHANGED THE BLOWER PULLEY THEN ADDED THE COMP CAMS.

@@ifgezroxy I wouldn't say the the 4.6 is the a very budget friendly motor i mean them kooks headers are like 1,300 bucks. This is coming from someone that owns a 2v 4.6 Twin Turbo Crown Vic. The 4.6 alone yea, the mods no. A lot of people are for sure starting to figure out what the 4.6 can really do tho.

That’s why you should be building stuff with an ls, the power they can create for hardly any money is undeniable, my blue oval pride told me not to give in to the urge to enjoy Chevy too, but now I’m turbo 5.3 swapping my 86 notchback, and couldn’t be happier with the “future proof” of these Chevy engines, they’re easily able to handle much more power than what I initially throw at it, and can be built for relatively cheap!

@@RegulerShowTV I never was a huge fan of any of the 72 and newer blue ovals. Up until 2018 moosetangs, the performance from off the floor stock had not been up to par. But yea the Lego adult world says a lsx turbo in any ford is the way to go now. I want an old 49 deluxe with a twin 72mm 4.8 and t56 trans.

Hey Richard, I just want to let you know that your hard work in producing these videos is very much appreciated, the time it takes to assemble and disassemble various engines and conducting comprehensive tests to determine the specific outcomes is a time consuming arduous task and not only that part but then taking the time to video record your efforts and then produce these interesting videos is amazing. On top of that you are doing this for our benefit while we sit at our leisure enjoying your hard work. Anyone giving you a thumbs down on your work should be ashamed as they have no idea of the effort you put into producing fantastic content. Thanks so much! John

I watched this video with a big smile. The final setup is very similar to my setup. I have the FRPP SVO blower (9 psi), a 90MM Lightning MAF, 70MM throttle body, Comp XE270AH Cams w/Ported PI heads, Longtubes, catted H-pipe, 4.10 gears, Snow Performance water/meth injection. Biggest issue I have is IATs even with water methanol. The car pulls like crazy on a cool day though. Huge difference from stock. I have had the car almost 21 years. It is a 2000 GT. I might have gone with a different cam and gears but those were added to the car long before I got the blower. Thanks for this video. I have not had a complete dyno just yet. Tried but there was a problem with the dyno once we thought we had the tune right. More to follow.

Not sure if you were directing your question at me. However, I will say that it has taken some serious tuning and elbow grease to get the car to perform up to my standards. The torque is unreal and it pulls even in 5th gear. I did have to replace the coupler on the supercharger recently. That was not a difficult task at all. I have not had a recent dyno and I don't really like to guess but if I had to ... I would say the car is around 430-450hp

For a truck owner who wishes they would have got the 5.4, the long tube header, throttle body and blower would be a good combo. +97 HP and +58lb-ft would probably eliminate feelings of "I could have had a 5.4!". Especially if you had one of the low power 4.6s like around 230HP.

So, all in all, you'll drop $10k (or thereabouts) on a 4.6 2V PI engine and have a 436 HP 428 lb ft V8(or basically the same power level as a stock Coyote). Considering the fact that you can get Coyotes fairly inexpensive nowadays (WAY less than $10k), I'd say it's a no brainer...Conclusion? Get a Mustang Coyote, get long tube headers, a bigger throttle body, a full 3" dual exhaust, and put a real cold air intake on it with a Tremec T5 or TR-3160 and you'll have a really quick and fairly powerful car. Me, I'd prefer a SN95 body style, or something around that time frame to a Fox body. Yeah, the Fox's are lighter, but I'd rather be comfortable with a good looking car. Even the 2005 body style would be sick to have a nice running Coyote in it instead of the anemic 4.6. P.S. I'm not saying that the 4.6 is a gutless turd at all, because they can make some REAL power when built well, but for my money I'd rather start with a Coyote and build it from there.

Actually if you choise your part right . It should cost you more the 4 or 5000$ built botyome end. You can see Richard's other 4.6 with ported heads and cam .he made 400hp easy . I've seen 450HP with all stock parts . Ford forged crank , rods , and trw posting set to 10.5/1 . ported PI heads . Ported PI intake .. aftermarket cams , 75 TB and 80 C&L M.A.F. and long tube headers . all don't in a back yards. I believe port was more expensive the the ford forged internals . I should try to find the dyno sheet . Internal was around 1200$ Porting of heads and intake was 1800$ Cams were 900$ Headers were 600$ new TB and M.A.F were About 350$ used . It's can be done . Yes the coyote has way more potential but at al bigger cost .

swapping an engine, well a different engine is a big deal for most if you shop around and don't get screwed on used parts of which there is a ton for the two valve you can build a pretty cool pretty powerful 2 valve for pretty cheap and sometimes people just have to run what they've got in the car So yeah of course the coyote would always be better and probably more cost effective in the end but people don't just have $10,000 they've got $200 here $500 there a thousand here

This is especially important with positive displacement blowers. The parasitic loss in turning the blower is less dependent on Rpm and more so the boost pressure it's pushing against. Supporting mods are far more important to make power on less boost while still keeping blower speed up

Another great video. I appreciate the 1-piece at a time changes and corresponding dyno tests. What would be nice to see would be the difference between a stock PI motor, and just swapping the heads out for the Trick Flow heads still using the stock everything else. All I see is the Trick Flow heads and a cam swap at the same time. A slightly more aggressive cam than the stock PI cam can on a stock PI motor give around a 30 HP increase on its own.

I would like to see a LS version. Such as starting with a stock engine, then a blower, then do boltons past that to see what kind of gains you get on a boosted engine. Could even do a turbo engine.

Love these videos! Especially the "other guys" I would really like to see a modular V10! I had one in a excursion I put a y pipe with a Banks tuner and Intake. It really woke it up, and then I had 4.30s installed. It had no business being as fast as it was. Made me wonder what could be done with cams and forced induction.
@BrownBomber92181
@BrownBomber92181 4 жыл бұрын
The Y pipes were huge restrictions for the excursions & super dutys. It gave that V-10 that weird pinging exhaust note. Fun fact the econoline vans didn't have that same Y pipe for the V-10, thats y they sounded so much better. On the Excursions I thought they all came with 4:30 rear ends? Or was that an option?
@joefwarren
@joefwarren 4 жыл бұрын
@@BrownBomber92181 3.73s were standard. I'm note sure that there was an "upcharge" for 4.30s. But yes I definitely had 3.73s. At about a 100k miles I started hearing what sounded like a bad universal joint. Turned out to be a bad bearing in the rear end. That's when I asked what gears were in it and they confirmed they were 3.73s. And I asked for yukon 4.30s. I am very neurotic about my rpms when I'm driving, so I pay alot of attention them. Based on my before and after rpm calculations, it seems to confirm they were 3.73s. I now have an 05 6.0 excursion and it has 3.73s as well. Probably the worst financial mistake I've ever made lol. I should've kept the v10

The compression and the small supercharger is whats really holding this motor back. Higher compression (10.5:1 maybe) a bigger supercharger and e85 would definitely wake this motor up. I'd imagine power with the above modifications mentioned this little motor would easily break 500hp. At that point however the connecting rods would be the weak point if they were stock, which is what I'm led to belive.

I can't tell you how many people back in the day were trying to tune 4.6s like it was a pushrod 5.0. Same with new dodges. People just lean the fuck out of them and change nothing else hoping to just gain horsepower. Do you notice how when a platform first comes out, there's always that one company that just fucks everything up. For the Coyote it was Bama, offhand I can't remember who was blowing up all the hellcats and SRT8s. Back in the early MAF pushrod days it was anything bbk lol.

This is the exact same engine in the Crown Vic Police Interceptors, correct? I know mines a 4.6L 2v as well but just curious since there's no mention of it. I assume there would have been considering there are probably more 4.6L's in CVPI's than anything else. Sorry for the uncertainty, not exactly as car savvy as I would like. Too bad the supercharger set up has been discontinued for so long and that all those mods probably cost more than getting a 5.0L from an F150 or something. I know long tube headers are like $1200 right there. A used 5.0L is probably like $3-4000., then you got yourself "395hp" from the factory which is fairly similar ballpark, wouldn't be surprised if a 5.0L could handle much better gains with a little modifying. Thank you for the video though, it's interesting to see and exciting to hear that our 4.6L's can be buffed up. You mostly only ever hear people saying otherwise.

Brilliant test to watch. Love these tests. Keep them coming. Hey, could you do a comparison using say a 327-350 CID motor with a dual-plane RPM Performer airgap using either Holley Sniper or 750 but try some different 1-inch four-hole spacers like the Hamburgers, Wilsons, Airaids helix, Jet, HVH Street sweeper and the Taylor Cable helix 4 hole spacers??? Be interested to see what difference these dirrerent types of spacer to as I am wanting to run a 1 inch four hole spacer using my new Sniper on a dual plane manifold V8.

I keep reading that the FRPP/SVO blowers were M112 superchargers, not the M90. There seems to be a few sources that say otherwise but after looking at the rotors and length of the case, its definitely longer than the M90 case/rotor pack.
