Hi Everyone, welcome to the Ranger Shop!
I created this channel to focus on everything to do with Ford Rangers. I love these little trucks, they are cheap easy to modify and great off road.
Please follow along if you have a Ranger and want to learn about modifying and repairing it.
This is Part 1/3 of my Supercharger install. I am using the Moddbox kit linked below. It’s been a great kit, well designed and beautifully made. In this video I cover rebuilding the charger, fuel pump and replacing the plugs.
Thanks for watching, we will see you in the next video.

As the engineer who designed this kit I gotta say, Zachary did his research. Great job on the install video. @Zachary, the kit is machined (you didn't have to correct yourself). NO CAST PARTS. These parts are all machined out of billet aluminum. Yep. High quality parts. Way stronger and have much higher tolerances than cast. Makes Magnuson look cheap :) Small note to those watching, he went all-out. He includes a few steps that aren't required (thermostat, IAT sensor, replaced knock sensor, etc)... but all highly recommended. Happy boosting y'all!

Awesome thanks for the information! So far it’s been great! Pulls my trailer with no problem, I feel it’s the perfect amount of power for this little truck! Thanks for putting the time into designing and building such a great kit! Highly recommended it to whoever I’m talking to. 👍👍

@RangerShop1

@@Trippyrips556 I think it’s a great option. Here is my take. It’s the easiest best way to keep a stock engine and get the most power out of it. With lots of potential for more power down the road. If your goal is an all out race truck then just throw a completely different drivetrain in it. Bigger engine, trans, diff the works!

Very interesting , but at 207 horsepower I'm not sure I even need any more power . I could see someone wanting to up the power on the 3L or one of the four cylinders . But the 4L already has more power than a 5 l Mustang from the 1980s . There was another guy on KZfaq that was putting the 5 l from a Mustang in his ranger . And I had to laugh because the V6 in my Ranger produces more power than the V8 that he just put in his Ranger .
@gavgo6968
@gavgo6968 2 ай бұрын
Key difference is potential. A built 5.0 will make way more power than a built 4.0, theres a reason youve never seen a 500hp 4.0. Also have to take torque into account, yeah a 5.0 might make the same/a lil less power than the 4.0, but way more torque. Stock 5.0 is still an upgrade even tho power is the same. Also I've heard 5.0 swapped rangers actually get better mileage if you don't beat on em, bc rangers are so light the v8 barely has to break a sweat to move it

Roughly how long did it take you to get it installed? I got my SC and my kit just came in not to long ago.

It’s really not a bad job. Filming doubled the time it took. I also deviated to replace a valve cover gasket and the T-stat. I’d say a nice relaxed day you could be all done then just wait overnight for RTV to dry and start up in the morning. 👍

Using the short cutoff bit of upper rad hose for the bypass hose under the SC turned out to be a bad idea. Mine developed a huge split after so many cycles of boost/vacuum/boost/vacuum. I wound up replacing it with proper silicone hose meant for boosted applications.

This is an awesome video ... I have always wanted to see a video of someone installing one these MOD BOXES before I pulled the trigger and installed one of these on my 2008 Ford Ranger. I'm just a little curious about the Allen head bolts you used ... Did you go with the silver/chrome bolts so there would be some contrast or is that just what came in the kit? (Either way looks fine, I guess it's mainly a personal preference thing.)

@RangerShop1

Full price to get someone to install it….. yes you’re probably very close. 4K But…… 2 times a year the charger kits from moddbox go on sale 25% off I’d wait for that and then do the work yourself. It’s definitely not a hard job. Take your time… watch my video and ask if you have any questions! You could probably get the whole thing done for 3K really nice 👍

Yeah I think for me it is. These superchargers excel in providing torque…. That’s what I wanted for towing my trailer… I don’t think the truck could handle any more power especially when towing, the transmission, front diff, transfer case etc just couldn’t handle it. I can now set my cruise control with my trailer on and just go, it’s awesome. Don’t expect to be blown away just good solid torque

I’m getting a 2011 Ranger XLT 4X4 with 38,000 miles next week. I may not automatically put this super charger on first thing but, I will in the future. If I just get the version that runs 3.5 psi would the stock engine and transmission still last as long as it normally would? When I get it, I’m definitely going to add a couple inches of body lift, MagnaFlow exhaust, and a nice cold air intake. Those items won’t make a noticeable difference while driving but I still want to do them. The supercharger will definitely wake that engine up. Any other easy upgrades I should look into when I first get the truck?
@RangerShop1
@RangerShop1 8 ай бұрын
With the 3.5 you could run for a very long time with no problems. It’s barely putting any stress on the engine. I highly recommend it, definitely best modification I did to the motor. I might hold off on all modifications till you get the SC I’d hate for you to buy something that won’t work for the kit. Or focus on the exhaust. Get some high flow CATs and a Cat back. Hope that helps…. Just enjoy the truck… these are awesome little trucks!

With 33” i think you would love 4:10s that’s what I have, now that I’m switching to 35” I’m regearing to 4:56. You could probably pull the whole works out of a low mileage one at the wrecker. Maybe a explorer for rear disc? 😁

4psi, it’s good for 50lbs extra torque and 50 extra hp. It’s finding a balance between performance and keeping the stock engine running. I think 4-5psi that’s the sweet spot!

@@RangerShop1 hey one more question so my truck is using up so much more gas do you think I did something wrong or is normal?
@RangerShop1
@RangerShop1 17 күн бұрын
Shouldn’t use anymore gas under normal driving. The first while I was using quite a bit more but it was because I was always pegging the boost. If you’re driving like normal and it’s using more gas I’d say something is off. Check for vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks… something that is tricking the computer into thinking you’re running lean when you’re actually ok.
