in this video I've decided to take a 95 Ford Ranger 2.3l engine completely part and see exactly how much damage and wear it had from 300,000 miles. just rolled in. #fordranger #ford #teardown the baddest ls engine ever

Tore my 2.3 down last week. Over 300k miles still had crosshatching in all cylinders, all the main bearings looked almost new, the rod bearings just barely showed copper and the cam looked great. The only things that were bad was the factory clutch and the valve seats.

I have a 93 ranger with 507,000+ miles 2wd 2.3l 5sp and still rocking the original engine transmission and rear end. Its my work daily. The only thing that has been an issue is the hydraulic slave cylinder for the clutch! Im on #3-4 lol, so many i can't remember

Just bought one for 850 bucks, the left motor mount was broken in half so the motor would almost jump out of the truck on the way home. 8 spark plugs two motor mounts and a trans mount later and this 285k mile beast is running strong and burning/leaking absolutely no oil

Look back at 24:22 and I see the oil ring scrapers on #2 piston are gapped together. Should be offset like the others.

Thanks for the video! I'm a fan of these 4 cylinders and have always been curious what the internals look like at high mileage. I have one in my truck at 245,000 miles. I also had valve issues at 240,000 and swapped the head out. The exhaust valve were pitted and not sealing. Perhaps it has something to do with me advancing the camshaft?😛 (Check out Race Engineering)

If it wasn't for leaking valves it'd be good for another 100k miles or more.

Sorry wrong button ranger fx4 tourson rear end. Question is do the posy rear wear out or do the clutches last.200 k There’s quite a few rangers in the junkyard and might pull one for a spare..if I can find one ….no hurry cause they throw 30 rangers in the junkyard a month.. and the 2000 are just starting to show up…
@everydayirace2 жыл бұрын
Fx4 level 2 torsen lsd is one of the best lsd that you can have in a ranger, they don't have clutches so they can last 200xxx+ miles with maintenance. We get about the same amount here, unfortunately most are rusted out and haven't had much maintenance, but sometimes I get lucky. Should you grab a spare? Today I grabbed 5 ford ranger lsd, 2 ford explorer lsd, and 2 4runner factory air locker diffs.........guess you could say I like having spares and it's 3 23 am now, just chilling with my raccoons lol.

@@everydayirace Chris Orlando fla again….that rear end you mentioned 8.8 fx4 going the distance…is good news..now I don’t have Any rangers I have 5 sport tracs 2 sports…did they make that rear end for the sport trac. Or one as good…getting ready to retire so I got time and looking for a possy rear…for a spare that would bolt up R/R….do you think a older Explorer bolt up to the sport tracR/R…or did they make any great rear ends in the sport trac. Sport I should be looking for.. don’t know if I’m good enough to remove the inners and replace it the right way..like you…for 50 dollars more get the whole thing untouched.. just wondering

Where is the cam position sensor on this truck?
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
It's located in the driver side right by the oil pump.

Tuff little motors ! I've owned 4 different Rangers with 2.3 or 2.5 and all have been great ! I had a 2.3 92 ranger , 288000 when I sold it. Had a 99 with 230,000 when sold. I have a 97 with 259000, 2000 2.5 with 157000 currently. Funny, when I was young I was into high performance v8's and now into longevity and fuel mileage......what happened? How did I get here ? 😂🤣😂🤣

That's where I am at, got a 400hp bike sitting around and I am here thinking how to get 3mpg+ out of my truck 😆
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
Oh, I was just thinking about starting to test bunch of mods to get 40mpg and make a series about it.
@ryanfarmer4691 Жыл бұрын
I watched alot of test done with putting Marvel Mystery oil or 2 stroke oil into your fuel. I been doing it and it does run better....today's gas is very dry and this helps with upper cylinder lube, fuel pump preservation. The more ethanol they put in gas ,fuel mileage reduces...
@everydayirace Жыл бұрын
@@ryanfarmer4691 I am running 30% ethanol right now lol, I am down 1mpg. I need a separate fuel cell and fuel pump so I could measure exact fuel consumption once I start testing new parts
@ryanfarmer4691 Жыл бұрын
30% ethanol? Our pumps in Virginia use to say up to 10% ethanol....now it just says " contains ethanol " with no percentage....

You know far to much about these ford rangers….you know your stuff…and your up at 1 am in the morning lol….the two junkyards in Orlando ….you pull and pay and central fla pull and pay. Have mucho rangers with no rust and not a lot of pulled engines…tuff job for the average guy…not you..the trucks are very clean for the most part once in awhile you get a truck from up north that’s wasted..but the rust free belt helps….I took your advice on looking for the fix 4 tours on rear end

Sounds like I need to make a trip to Orlando and bring a trailer for parts lol.
