It is a great bakkie and 4x4! Most vehicles on the market seems to have some sort of compromise or trade-off when setting boastful selling features. Yes, The 2.0L does have the power, response and great fuel economy and is matched to what is probably one of the motor industries leading gearboxes in the current overlanding market. It seems the Ranger 2.0L BiTdi does tick all - if not most of the boxes on our test sheet. Ofcourse it does need to be stated that we receive these cars as basically new. The true test would be to see what goes wrong after 50 000 or 100 000 kms. if there are any Ford supporters on here that could advise us - we would sincerely appreciate that! The Raptor is a great bakkie, but is overkill for day to day use. The Thunder is a great compromise between a normal Ranger and the Raptor. You won't regret it.

There is no difference. You just get a different grill, black roller shutter, bed divider, black rims, and a more stylish interior for a better price than buying a normal wildtrak and have to pay extra for all these features. Further it's exactly the same car as a Wildtrak.

@@deppe123 As you mentioned, it’s not too dissimilar from the Wildtrak when you look under the bonnet. Both are VERY good overlanding base vehicles and tow vehicles. However - this is a limited edition model whcih means you won’t see as many of them as you would Wildtraks. Do you ever remember going to a party in the old days, whereby you rung the doorbell and the chap that answered was wearing the same T-shirt as you? This limited edition model dos allow you to personalize quite a lot of the exterior features of the vehicle . We guess it is because so much time, money and resource is spent on ones overlanding base vehicle, it is only customary for overlanders to give their rigs a name, along with a character of their choice. We referred to ours as "Felicity the fleeting Ford" because only had her for short space in time. ;) As for drivetrain, it is available with the similar engine spec and drive configurations as the Wildtrak. I guess the big question you need to ask yourself is...do you want to be different? @@thomasgrone5426 The new Wildtrak has the same engine and gearbox as the Thunder and the Raptor. In Europe only available with the 2.0BiT. I have the Thunder since december and very happy with it.

Thanks @Franco - for those that don't know SUT is abbreviated for Sports Utility Truck, and is somewhat synonymous with pickups in the US and some other foreign countries. However - in order for something to be a pick up - it must have a load bin area and a tail gate. Thus, while we feel that you are correct @Franco, here in South Africa where we have many names for the common things like Samoosa, Plakkies ( flops) , braai ( Not BBQ) and Rugga ( Rugby) - we as a South African people often refer to these sorts of SUT's as bakkies. After all...its not a Nissan champ 😂😂😂 Do you know what "thongs" are referred to in Australia?

Hi Garry. unbraked towing capacity is 750kg and braked 3500kg.

Hi Nele, if we recall, you can alternate between between 2WD and 4WD on the lower spec 2L models. But not the 3L V6 models. It shouldn't be of too much concern. remember - Subaru has all wheel drive engaged all the time.

Thanks @Kakambi - Yeah, automatic is alot easier in traffic and for the newbie off- roaders. We agree! However for the more experienced overlanders...Manual gearboxes do offer alot more fun 😉😎

@@jldp24 HAHAHA - what we have heard and seen, compared to what we have been given the "OK" to release to public are two very different things JLD10* 😀😀😀 However - we can confirm that our local market seems to be following the trend of bigger grills and front spoiler sets that have proved to be exceeding popular in the US. in most circumstances customers who use their 4x4's in South Africa for actual overlanding and off-roading, one of the first vehicle upgrades is seemingly bulbars, then improved suspension. We digress - as it seems that bigger grills are on the fashion favorite list for new model vehicles arriving in SA, more often than not - our 4x4 community is still geared towards replacing them with something better suited for our overlanding needs.😇

@@jldp24 LOL, well the Ford Ranger Stormtrak is limited edition, and we believe they will only be around 1000 - 2000 vehicles produced. This would make yours exceedingly unique. Which begs the question. Do you want something unique and to stand out of the crowd? or do you prefer to blend in with the crowd? ;) Your vehicle is an extension of your personality - some say.... what do you drive currently?

@@SA4x4online lol. I had one there.a wild track for four years. From new. Just changed to the new hilux. Top spec. Twice as good. I had the 3.2. Deffo wouldn’t toutch that 2 letre ford.
