Under the hood of the Expedition Timberline is the same 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that's also found in the Ford Raptor, minus a whole 10hp. It's an incredibly capable offering in Ford's off-road lineup that's actually a bit of a sleeper, sending 440 HP and 510 Lb-Ft of torque to all four wheels. Enjoy!

I've taken it off road twice already. It's a beast but clearance isn't the best, nothing a lift & bigger tires can't fix though. :)

The gear shift buttons are probably for towing where it can be very important.

They need to make a MAX version of this. Also they should just bring in the Ford F-150 front end into this with AC/DC outlets, a flat working surface, and an actually shifter instead of the dial.

ONLY if they don't make it EV. For now, that tech needs work. If EV/Hybrid is required to have AD/DC outlets, then I'll do without for now. Easy decision. No way. I'd have to be in a situation where I need a work truck for say 3 years to use and replace regardless, and I need the use the heck out of the outlets AND Hybrid works (not pure EV). Then maybe. Outside of that, no way. I tend to keep vehicles longer.

I'm torn between the Ford Expedition Timberline 501A and the Limited with Stealth Performance Package 304A. My driving consists of 70% city, 30% highway, and occasional off-road adventures. Can you share insights on which trim offers better ride comfort and road handling for this usage profile?

I'm sure you could swap steering wheels with a raptor and activate paddles via FORSCAN.

@Michael-ii9fs
@Michael-ii9fs 9 ай бұрын
What the hell do you need paddles here for? Hey, I'm a manual transmission guy in cars, and I can appreciate the right performance automatics with paddle shifters in the right vehicle configurations. Normally sports cars or sedans. Some SUVs make sense, but I tend to drop interest in the street and track performance even in a performance SUV. Meaning, a trackhawk or something like that. The full-size SUV isn't that vehicle. Raptor engines and gear are a different kind of performance. People race snails and lawn tractors I guess, but I'm not into it as most aren't. I don't have any need to upshift/downshift like someone at Nurburgring. No fractions of a second to shave in this thing. Not at all. Really, that's true in a Bronco or Jeep-sized SUV. I'd want the manual because of other reasons, but not for track reasons. The driving scenarios on or off-road with this thing lend themselves to utilizing the automatic. This isn't about the shifting experience...which is really a manual stick thing anyway and never happening on this. The only scenarios for manual gear selection that make sense on this are towing situations, slower-moving off-road situations, or driving on ice where you may want to keep the transmission from shifting for stead control of the wheel...or by your selection where you can let off the gas to manually shift up or down...but that's really treacherous conditions you'd want to stay out of...as opposed to most snow and ice conditions. This manual mode in this case works for those less common scenarios. Most towing wouldn't need it and this isn't a heavy tow vehicle. It won't tow most of the time except for serious overlanders with a camper config probably. No big deal. Still not using manual mode for that. It does have the ability, which is critical. What doesn't make sense is having the same shifting dynamic as a high-performance car. That dynamic is desired by some for the reason: "just cuz I want it" which is a DIFFERENT VEHICLE. Quite frankly, they got that part right here.

Eco-boost sucks, the bi-turbo collects so much carbon sticky dust that it affects the engine's performance.

Actually this engine has the port AND direct injection. The port injection prevents that carbon buildup common with previous generation ecoboosts.

@@jorad4887 So, during your “research” you found there was plenty of carbon buildup on an engine design that was only a year in? No, that makes no sense. In 2018 there was not enough data to make any conclusion one way or another. Any research that indicated carbon buildup would have been BEFORE port injection was added. “Ford technician and KZfaqr Ford Tech Makuloco is no stranger to the entire family of Ford EcoBoost engines, having previously explored everything from carbon buildup to coolant leaks in the Ford 1.5L EcoBoost, 1.6L EcoBoost, and 2.0L EcoBoost powerplants, as well as leaky Ford F-150 models equipped with the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost. Now, he’s back with a new video that takes a closer look at the revamped, dual-injection, second-generation Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine to see if its revisions have fixed those carbon buildup problems once and for all.”
