You have one of the best, cleanest Transit setups I've seen. Spring for the thicker mattress man - you deserve it!

Congrats! Undoubtedly one of the most awesome accommodations I have seen in a small space. I see many but they are either too cluttered and messy or too sterile/cold looking. Really really nice.

Perfect built and size. Don’t mind the folks urging for a bigger van. This thing will save you money and having you enjoy life outside rather the inside. Thanks for sharing.

I have one of these I live out of on road trips. These are VERY stealthy. I even have a small roof vent and solar panel on mine and you still wouldn't ever think someone is in the back.
@Simonofcalifornia4 жыл бұрын
101perspective don’t forget the low overhead; cheap tires, maintenance, insurance, and if anything goes wrong, any mechanic will fix it. Try that with a sprinter.

The pullout for the feet is cool. The thin pad sure looks thin. A thicker pad sure wouldnt be to hard to do and would be much plusher
@TLH4424 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking Kai could just get a higher density closed cell foam pad (evazote 1cm thick) and bond it to the existing foam. DIY dual density foam bed.

Excellent set up!! I've got a Ford Transit too and am just now starting to look for ways to make it livable. Thanks for the great ideas! PS: love the wood paneling.
@taradead5 жыл бұрын
Wood paneling adds unessesary weight...which lowers gas mileage. Not worth it, imo. There are better ways to make a camper's interior look inviting.
@kaibedell96215 жыл бұрын
Anna J thanks! It does add some weight but I still get pretty darn good gas mileage (22-25mpg) and it just wouldn’t be as homey without it:)

That's a pretty good setup for a Transit Connect. Not big enough for our needs as we are looking at a full-sized van - new / used, not sure yet. We do like the Transit 350 XLT and are leaning in that direction. But for your needs I can see where your van will work great for you. Thanks for sharing. :)

Awesome build out, man! I also have a Transit Connect and I love it. I'm starting to realize how much easier my conversion would be if I didn't have windows all the way around.
@taradead5 жыл бұрын
I dont have any windows in my van (other than driver area). It's good because I dont have to bother with making sure they're totally blacked out at night...however, if i didn't just sleep in it, at least one side window would be ideal/more livable.
@ohmercy59244 жыл бұрын
Very nice. I’ve been thinking of a connect but the ones I’ve seen on the street look as though the back is only about 5 feet! I read somewhere that the first 3 years they were longer and taller and Ford, for some reason brought the size down even further. You have to have a window not just for ventilation which is really important, but for light which is just as important for health. Plus your body puts out moisture when sleeping so you could wind up with mold which apparently is an issue with lots of van builds. Anyway- good going on the build. Looks comfy and workable.

Deryk MacLeod so the siding was done when I got the van, but the guy who built it basically took laminate flooring and put it together on the ground then cut it to the shape he wanted. Then used self tapping screws to screw it to the supports on the van

Great build. I'm 6'3 and if I could work it to be able to lay down stretched out, I would prefer this van. If I could, I would do my bed behind the driver seat and put the sink and things on the other side with a passenger swivel seat, so when I'm relaxing, that would be my chair, have a table on a swivel that could either be at the head of my bed, or in front of my swivel seat. Definitely get some solar for the fridge and charging things. Also a camera system that would give me a view all around the van with no windows in the back. I absolutely love your build. Will look up measurements to see how much space behind the drivers seat to the back to see if I can fit. If not I would just look for a regular work van. Love the stealth.

Very nice set up. I currently own a 10 year old Honda Odyssey. I was thinking about trading it in on a new small van like this. But after test driving a Nissan NV200 I realized I just could not go that small. I really admire you for being able to pull off living in a Transit Connect.
@directionwood5 жыл бұрын
the nv 200 is smaller than the transit connect btw.
@taradead5 жыл бұрын
@@directionwood the nv200 is smaller than a 2013 transit connect...but it's larger than any of the swb transit connects from 2014 through present.
@directionwood5 жыл бұрын
@@taradead OH good to know. I think the nv200 gets the best gas mileage too
@taradead5 жыл бұрын
@@directionwood Correct. I'm averaging 32 mpg in mine...but i dont have it weighed down w/ a bunch of wood and stuff. Unfortunately, though, the nv200 also has the lowest build quality.

I’ve been working on a plan to convert my Ford connect XLT into a camper and I absolutely love your design the only thing significant that I would change is a thicker mattress otherwise you have to right idea, you kept it simple and it’s extremely private nobody is going to know you’re in there. And a 500 W solar panel on the roof with an air max vent.
