One of the final preps for the wall and ceiling panels is shown here, where we add fabric (and in some cases landau foam) to prepare pillars in the front and back of the van, around doors and on the notorious foam blobs! We also covered the Titan structural steel as well to ensure no gaps in fabric when we later install the wall panels. We used 3M90 spray adhesive for all of this, and our fabric is a marathon tweed that will also cover our wall panels.
Shout out again to ‪@AVCRIG‬ --see their videos for step-by-step tutorials as well! Their videos were super helpful to us, and you should watch those too!!! 😄

You can do this!!! I won’t lie - it is a ton of work, but very manageable. Just take your time! It will look great I’m sure! 😊

Really nice work. Thanks for the video. I noticed you have a handle for your slider, where did you purchase it and how did you attach it? We are looking to do the same with our Ford Transit.

Thanks for the comment! Are you referring to the handle by the door frame behind the passenger seat? I think so-if that’s the case this handle came with our cargo van when we bought it new. I just took it off to upholster and then reattached. I love having it there to climb in and out of the van if you’re referring to something else, let me know!

Beautiful job and nice improvements over the AVC Rig videos (which I love). Doing the horizontal first on the sliding door was smart. I could not get the latch covers on the rear door to snap in after the foam was under them. I should have removed that foam before applying the fabric. Also had to really be careful to avoid getting the bulb seal grease on my fabric - not entirely successful. Did you suffer the same issues?

We did place the latch covers back on over the foam and fabric, following some tips we watched on AVC Rig videos. If you still haven't got them back on, watch their video. I think there is a way you have to tilt it to get it back on. We were also very, very careful with the bulb seal. We didn't have any issues with it getting on the fabric around the sliding door, but I did have a small spot on one of the pillars around the back door--but was able to get it out with mineral spirits.

This looks nice. Did you fabric all the panels too?

Thanks! Yes, we did cover all the wall panels with landau foam and the same fabric. The ceiling panels were also covered with Landau foam and marine vinyl.

How much fabric did you buy to cover these areas? It looks awesome and we're giving it a try!

We ordered 35 yds of the tweed fabric from Perfectfit, and this was calculated based on covering all of our wall panels with a little extra to spare in case we had to redo a panel (which we did on one panel). This amount of fabric also provided enough extra fabric to use for all the upholstering on the door trim, pillars, foam blobs and even on the titan trim pieces behind the walls. Even with this, we have a small amount of the fabric on the roll in case we need to redo anything in the future. Hope this helps!

Did you use rivnuts for the install? If so.... where do you find them??
@blazingwanderers
@blazingwanderers 3 ай бұрын
We used blind attachments for attaching panels to the foam window rings around the CRL windows and to the fiberglass of the flares in the back. We screwed straight through the panels into the metal for the walls -for the ceiling panels we attached to furring strips behind the panel. We just used a standard fastener/screw with a finishing washer to give a more decorative look. We bought almost all of our fasteners and attachments from Amazon and in a few cases, a few extra at Lowe’s!

Curious why you chose to "tub" the vinyl sheeting instead of laying it flush to the edge of your walls? We're doing sheet as well and want to make a water tight edge seal as possible and windering if that's why you did that?
@blazingwanderers
@blazingwanderers Жыл бұрын
Yes, you got it- we tubbed the Lonseal up a few inches on the wall to create an water tight edge seal. It also creates a good barrier for dust and dirt as well. This was recommended by several people online (one of these being @AVGRig in their installation videos)and we’re very happy with how it turned out. It also creates a very nice visual edge where the wall panel hits the floor once the wall panels are installed.

@@blazingwanderers Thanks! I'll check out AVGRig's video too. I'd like to see how you handled cutting/tubbing around the pillars etc.

Is that Ford Transit? how much of Fabric did you use, wondering what quantity to order. Thanks
@blazingwanderers
@blazingwanderers 4 ай бұрын
Yes- this is a 2021 Transit. I have been searching my notes to remember how much fabric we ordered but I can’t find my order notes. I ‘think’ I ordered about 30 yards. We do a a small amount left over and so it was the right amount for us. I think when we calculated how much we wanted we built in a little extra in case we had to redo or two large panels. Also, we use this to trim out all the door frames and blobs. So, I think this is the amount we used, and we do have enough leftover. I could redo a couple panels if we ever had to, but not too much that it isn’t manageable to store.I’ll keep looking in case I come across the actual number that this might get you started!

What did you use to affix the foam and fabric?
@blazingwanderers
@blazingwanderers Жыл бұрын
For most of the fabric adhered to metal or over landau foam (I.e. door trim areas and pillars), we used the 3M90 spray adhesive (green can). For the foam blobs, the 3M90 will dissolve the foam unless you really careful, and so for those pieces I used the 3M74 adhesive for foam (orange can). It does have a slight orange color as it dries and can show through light colored fabric if you used apply it heavily, but we didn’t have any issues. The 3M74 was recommend by @AVCRig in their video on how to cover the foam blobs. I highly recommend watching their videos for extra tips!
