'Ford Wants to Build a Sports Car' Official Clip FORD v FERRARI | Matt Damon, Christian Bale
Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

They did such a good job portray Damon in this scene. When we talks about Le Mans he has a look in his eye as he remembers it. He's going on in his mind how hard it is, how much its going to take out of you. It's like he almost doesn't want to remember. He explains it so well. This scene really set up the movie to show just a silver of how hard it is to not only race in it, but win it. Lee didn't walk in there wanting to compete or even win. He wanted Ford to absolutely dominate it.

In short 24 hours of le man is a marathon. Speed is a factor but really only towards the end. The key is making sure your car holds up for the duration. That’s why they call it endurance racing

The irony of 2 parts in the movie is when Carroll made it clear speed was not the answer to winning Lemans however when he is in Henry Ford II office his convincing point about continuing the race program he brought speed to the forefront of the conversation and openly admitting the car was undependable..... I remember watching Good Will Hunting where he played a troubled young adult finding his way in life before seeing this in theatres, and man this guy has had a hell of a career. Of course becoming a serious deadly character like Jason Bourne, then later an optimistic astronaut stuck on Mars. Then a swell race car engineer and former racer.

Nobody in this movie mentions John Wyer who basically a British pioneering engineer that made the GT40 a competitive car in Le Mans. Until Wyer helped Porsche in building the iconic 917 that made Porsche one of the most successful car manufacturer in Le Mans after being an underdog for 20 years in the competition.

"Yeah, Ford Motors want to build a racing car that will take out the ferraris" *Buys a british racecar and calls it a Ford. Ford would never ever been able to build the GT40, the Lola GT was the car. And it was 40 inches high. THe Lola GT did amazingly on the Le Mans track. Ford saw that and bought the car and the team. Did not even change the model name. Now you know!
