In 1972, Ford rally ace Roger Clark recorded a famous victory in Britain's RAC Rally to end 12 years of Scandinavian dominance of the event. Driving by day and by night, in dire conditions, Clark fought off the challenges of stars like Stig Blomqvist, Simo Lampinen, Shekhar Mehta, Ove Andersson and the rest to bring his Mk 1 Ford Escort home to win. Greg Strange introduces this special tribute, based on contemporary footage...

I grew up in Hinckley in the 70's, always found ironic that his day jab was selling Renaults! He would occasionally have a works Escort tucked a way in the workshop rubbing shoulders with Renault 4's etc.

You also gave the Irish Boys something to aim for, even though Stuart Turner didn't particularly like the Irish, a brilliant Billy Coleman rose to the task! Roger was fantastic, with a lovely style! He will never be forgotten!
