Another great song by the English band Forefather.
Lyrics:
Miri it is while summer ilast
With fugheles song
Oc nu neheth windes Blast
And weder strong
Ei, Ei! What this night is long!
And ich with wel michel wrong
Soregh and murn and fast*
Miri it is 'tween dark and dark
This fleeting stage
'Till we return back to the night
From whence we came
And henceforth our spears take aim
Hope to win eternal fame
Hear our names e'er more
(Thanks to bub for this part) Translates as:
Merry it is, while summer lasts with birds' song...
But then comes the blasting wind & strong weather...
Aye aye, but this night is long!
And I, having been greatly wronged, sorrow & mourn & fast.

TheKodiak72 This song was written centuries before British Imperialism. And my people had gone through much suffering and enslavement by the Roman Empire even centuries before that!
@mariameyer1039
@mariameyer1039 9 жыл бұрын
TheKodiak72 Why is it so popular to be a victim these days? As if the culture being enslaved and killed is automatically superior/morally better than the ones doing the killing and enslaving. Look at Rome, the cultures they enslaved and/or took over were hardly pacifist peace makers themselves. And we do not look at Rome under such a light, but rather relish in their accomplishments. Stop trying to encourage the apologists of the European cultures. Europe was a thing to behold, inter-connecting the world and bringing us the modern sciences and in turn progressing humanity forward in a brief few hundred years more-so than the former few thousand.

"Miri it is..." is great as it shows that even two hundred years after the Normans, a whole song could be written with only Germanic words. Even the modern English translation does the same.

@@blacklight4720 I think many people like to feel a strong connection to their true history, one connected by blood. While the Normans held the status of nobles and elites for many years after their conquest of England, that didn't change who the people of England really were. Damn, this is something. I'm of Anglo-Persian descent, born and raised in Britain, Essex. As much as I don't have pure Anglo-Saxon blood running through my veins, I was born on this land, and as much I don't claim the ancestors of my birth country as my own, they lived on this land, and thus as me being part of this land, I will respect and honour them. My fellow Englishmen of Anglo Saxon heritage, take it from someone who isn't Anglo Saxon, fucking start reclaiming your heritage and fight for it. I don't even have Anglo Saxon heritage (fully that is), but I'm willing to fight for it. There are some who wouldn't consider me English, and as much as I don't belong to the ethnic group of Anglo Saxon, me being part of the cultural English unit, birth on the land, and raised as such, makes me English in that respect. If it didn't at all, well, then people are just blind to the obvious. Don't get me wrong, I respect and honour my Persian heritage as much, but that is a foreign ideal to me due to several generations of my family not living there. Still, respect, honour, and fight for your blood. Britannia! (Rant over. Sick music.)

there were AS riddles which ridicule men who consort with "dark haired" welsh women, but this conception was spiritual not based on scientific race, eventually welsh and saxon did intermingle, as many welsh were forced to adopt AS culture and essentially became english - just as irish slaves eventually became icelanders.

+Damian Freeman (TheExceeder) I know what you mean. This is just a simple folk song, but for some reason it is just so much more than that. Forefather's own addition says so much in such few words. Miri and brief is our time between the voids of our non-existence. If we want to live forever, it is only in the memories of the living, and so we must achieve excellence life, to not be forgotten. I don't believe, at least I hope, that one life is not the whole of our existence, but it is a beautiful way to express such a belief.

senatortombstone I suppose. I think my only issue with the song is that the added second verse isn't quite what I'd (personally and subjectively) imagine a second verse of this song to be like. It's good, don't get me wrong. I just like the season-suffering theme more. :P

What the fuuuuuck are you flapping about. For one half those useless people's never made it to America in the early days with England or France saying they can fucking come when we said they can come so this idea that you've all got tons of heritage it complete bollocks just another attempt and making some history. Second, it's call Anglo America, because we gave it our stamp we built it, the yanks don't say Franco, or Mexicano or any other shutter who arrived 150 years after the French and English. They are you peenarse, o yea I forgot you'd know better then the national archives of two nations wouldn't you? Twat. Anglo is the word used for England as a country it not hard to fucking understand. Anglo American tobacco , anglo American treaty, Anglo free trade agreement. Briton is a fucking person who lives on the British Isles you clown! We've got many labels the most commonly said are , brits, Britons, anglians go and get a fucking clue. Secondly you have no evidence of those national Ali ties, you've just cherry picked from conspiracy which is plainly fucking obvious by who you've named...Italians? What coz you had a mafia from 1911 that means there's always been Italians...no doesn't work like that. Irish because of gangs of new York? Germans because of a few hessian mercenaries the Anglo house in the colonies? Your very clues. Just a simple search of the word Anglo would have saved you public embarrassment. It's wasn't like it is today if your going to someone's country back then you better have a reason for being there or some papers explaining why you are there you could not freely migrate ffs on mass it's called an empire! by denomination of the fact your barely 250 years old as America then it is highly unlikely many of you carry those genes much tbh. And it's not Mexican it's Spanish , they are not Brazilian they are Portuguese and Spanish. So there you are again clueless, your entire two continents are directly descended from Europeans so you fool can claim whatever you want the reality is we have books manuscripts records of all this in Europe older then any of your nations detailing in full from all European powers at the time what happened who? what? where? when? why? Anglo=England Briton=a person who resides on the BRITISH Isles. Britannia=Britain English=those who are native to England not britain. You lot play too many games and haven't read much on the subject clearly. Next you be saying Americans built the pyramids and Americans are one zillion th ancient Egyptian or annunaki or some cap. Go read and believe me American history books are toilet roll over here, 90% is made up or a spin job.

I never forgot my ancestors, I follow their gods, their traditions... but sadly im few and the majority of my fellow countrymen have no memory of their history. Schools dont educate the populace anymore of our own history. We are dying out and the memory may soon die out, I will continue to fuel the flame. My children will pass my memory and so on. BTW the last word is unknown, it is thought to be "fast" as an "f" is visible (the original score can be found online), It could have been anything. Also, the tempo and mood of the song is not known, it could just as much have been a bawdy song and the last f... well not f*ck, as this didn't mean the same, but something in this direction. Because, really, the Middle Ages were not always bleak and it's easy to figure out that in the dark and long nights there were better things to do than fasting :) This said, awesome song, loved it!!

I'm Swedish and what's funny is that what cannot be comprehended as English can be interpreted as Swedish words spelled funny.

@666satanification666 Well the anglo saxons did bring in the Germanic influence... The real english people the aboriginals of that area where killed or pushed into wales and scotland (mainly wales). Also Normans were also of norse/germanic decent, they just happend to be given land in Normandy by the french because they were sick of having paris sacked by them :P. So the English today are more germanic/norse than you think...

No, Chaucer spoke Middle English; if this were Old English, it would be incomprehensible to everyone. Shakespeare spoke Early Modern English, while we today speak modern English; linguistically, it's not as large a leap as from modern to middle english.
