Hi Gavin, I went to a dollar store and bought a few bundles of dried spikes and use it in occasions to shoot a model through the spikes 😀 the are around 1 inch wide at the thickest part but since I have many of them I can cover sufficient for a cool look, just like you use the twigs 😀

Thanks, Gavin. Great video as always. You frequently mention Nik Software, I have the latest two versions and was hoping you may be able to point me towards decent training or guidance for using them. Maybe convince some of your Adorama cohorts to create some tutorials for us! Thanks for all you do!

1/2000 shutter speed, is it because a slower speed like your cameras sync speed would let to much light in making the photo not as blurry? Or is it something else? Awesome video!!! Can’t wait to try this.
@GavinHoey
@GavinHoey 2 ай бұрын
Yep, that's basically it. super wide apertures (like f/1.4) let in loads of ambient light which is recorded by the camera along with the flash and can cause issues such as image ghosting, colour shifts and exposure issues.

Very good. But you can use a gobo mask with a green filter in the background

What is the reason why you don't use full frame, so that you can better achieve a shallow depth of field ? And then I just want to add that you make some really good and educational videos. They are a great inspiration for me, who is a bit new to portrait photography, even though I have many years behind the camera.

Hi Gavin, great video. Quick question, I am a complete novice and was wondering why that shutter speed?? Don't you usually have it set at 1/125 1/250 ??
@GavinHoey
@GavinHoey 2 ай бұрын
It's all about the ambient light. Super wide apertures (like f/1.4) let in loads of ambient light which is recorded by the camera along with the flash and can cause issues such as image ghosting, colour shifts and exposure issues. HSS flash (High Speed Sync) allows me to exceed the standard shutter speed for flash (1/250th in this case) but to learn more I made a whole video about it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7h2atKU356vZXk.html

Just wondering why you used 1/2000 shutter speed ?
@GavinHoey

Because super wide apertures (like f/1.4) let in loads of ambient light which is recorded by the camera along with the flash and can cause issues such as image ghosting, colour shifts and exposure issues. Because super wide apertures (like f/1.4) let in loads of ambient light which is recorded by the camera along with the flash and can cause issues such as image ghosting, colour shifts and exposure issues. High speed sync (HSS flash) allows us to go beyond the limits of normal flash and shutter speeds... This video explains why kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7h2atKU356vZXk.html
