My brother in-laws best friend joined the French foreign legion, way back in 1980/81. He remained in the legion for many years, a fine soldier indeed I believe........I asked him why he joined the legion, he said that he had joined to forget. I said, to forget, to forget what. He replied , In fact he had forgotten.

Le plus grand respect pour ces hommes. Vraiment normal de leur accorder la nationalité française après leurs années de service (ils l'ont vraiment méritée). Et cela fait du bien de voir que des nationalités différentes peuvent très bien cohabiter. Grand merci à eux.

I'm a veteran of the US Army and I once had a friend who became a Legionnaire. He and I served together in Central America back in the 80's when Reagan was President. After we both got out, he just couldn't... 'make it all the way home', so to speak and one day he sold everything and caught a flight to Paris. About two years later, I got a post card from him and he was a proud Legionnaire of 1er REC, stationed in Orange at the time. We kept in touch off and on... Christmas cards and what-not... and at my last hearing of him [late 90s], he was a Marechal de logis doing his third hitch.

@@phoenixhenson3689 As I understand it, and this is just from reading and video so I could be wrong, if a legionnaire does a full 5 year hitch with 'honor and fidelity' [aka an honorable discharge] they can apply for and almost automatically receive French citizenship. If you're interested in that, I would **seriously** recommend that you do your own research and satisfy yourself of the service benefits.

@@phoenixhenson3689 more than just citizenship. you get a fully legal new identity i.e. name, date of birth and country of origin. it is clearly explained in beginning, lots of these guys have had a bad start in life and are ex.criminals wanting to start a new life.

My father IMRA LANZLO IVAN (May God receive & rest his soul)is a Legionnaire! I'm very proud of my father's amazing accomplishments in his life. He never talked about the missions he was apart of he never promoted war or weapons of any kind, unless it was about proper safety, handling, and storing of them. It wasn't until after my father past did my mother (Mildred Brown) pulled out dad's metals, pictures, and documentations and a few stories that she shared with us did my brothers and I ( five of us together )get a tiny glimpse into my father's life before he moved to Canada. May God receive and rest your soul 🙏 MoM . You both are missed & loved very much.

J'ai un énorme respect pour ces gars. En 91 j’étais détaché de mon régiment pour travailler avec eux a Sarajevo. Au début j’étais mis a part pour tout. Normal j 'étais pas Légionnaire, j étais l intrus. Au bout de 6 mois c'est avec des larmes que ces grands messieurs m'ont dits au revoir. La légion est une famille que l'on oublie jamais.

Pour moi c'est juste une des plus grandes fierté de la France que la Légion Etrangère!.. Le principe de donner une seconde chance à des mecs qui se mettent au service de la patrie en échange d'une acceptation pleine et entière dans la citoyenneté qu'ils méritent plus que tout est juste formidable. Et il n'y a pas plus patriotes que ces gars là une fois leur engagement terminé. Justes admirables et aucun ne mérite autant la nationalité que ces mecs. Je ne fais pas partie de la famille mais j'en ai une admiration sans borne. Ce sont ces valeurs là dont je suis fier, et que l'on vienne me dire après ça que la France est un pays où le racisme systémique est omniprésent!... A bras plus qu'ouvert on les accueille!!!

We had a short guy like that in our platoon. He barely met the height requirements. Ruck marches with a big load were hell on him. They'd start him at the front of the column and slowly he'd be overtaken by the entire platoon. Once he had been passed by everyone, he would run back to the front and repeat the process. One thing I can say, just being tall is not a huge advantage b/c in fact most of the special forces soldiers are not tall, they're usually on the smaller side. However, when you are very short, you cannot easily keep pace. One other thing, having high arches in your feet seems to help on the long road marches. Flat feet take more of an impact while an arch can compress against force to give more reslience in the feet. Having healthy feet is EVERYTHING for the foot soldier

@@ChristopherFelicitas I can remember how how he came up to me which means he must have been about 5 ft 1 in in height. Strangely however Special Forces is actually filled with people who are on the shorter end of the spectrum. Maybe not 5 ft 1 in but still short nonetheless

@@tvtvvtvt8017 Do you mean French Special Forces? Because here in the U.S., the average height of an Army Ranger is nearly six feet and about 175 pounds. And the shortest operator I ever met in 10th SFG was 5 foot 3. But it's true that we are usually more sinewy and in shape with good cardio and endurance, than we are big and muscular with brute force strength. Being big and muscular can actually be a huge disadvantage in many cases, especially when it comes to endurance. Salute to you.

C'est vraiment le club des vaillants la Légion. Arabe, blancs, noir, esquimaux aucune importance tout le monde est derrière le drapeau. C'est ce qu'on devrait inculquer a échelle nationale, on aurait éviter bien des tensions.

@@thaets8075 Je pense que tu fais allusion au sergent en Afghanistan à qui le journaliste demandait si il avait déjà tué des talibans ? Si c'est le cas, c'est normal, aucun militaire (je ne le suis pas) ne le dira, c'est une question de respect par rapport aux hommes qui sont morts. Je trouverais personnellement anormal de voir un militaire se vanter d'avoir tué x personnes. La chance que nous avons, c'est que notre armée est composée de soldats, pas de guerriers. C'est vrai que l'on aimerait savoir, mais je pense que même si c'est dans le cadre de la guerre, avec l'adrénaline et la formation, tuer quelqu'un doit laisser des traces.

I love how the deployed vehicles carry devices which can tell the position of a lone rifle shot when being fired upon. It works by having multiple microphones register sound at minimum 3 different times/locations and can immediately back-calculate (triangulating) the location of the insurgent. This saves time when making a quick response upon the enemy

When it works-Snipers are normally very effective-had us very paranoid in Nam. They would take out a lot of our guys and were very hard to detect. No technology for that then but Snipers are still one of the most effective ways in defeating the enemy.

When I was 15, we were in France with relatives. My aunt's boyfriend was once a legionnaire. I liked how people respected him, his stories and his fearless view of the world. At one point I considered joining. But it was probably just a romantic notion.

Clean Ur room do some sit ups and glute bridges, then run to the park do some chin ups and push ups some.hand stands and walk to the coffee shop have a big breakfast. Do that 3 times a week and 6 months will feel.some.sort of good feelings.

For many years I can't go to bed and get up on time... I can only do 30 push-ups, I get tired after a short trip to the store... I get very angry when someone orders me to do something (for example, at work) ... But, you can still strive to go there. I see that it is difficult to assemble yourself alone, it is better in a group. And letting go of the past is good. Perhaps this is partly infantile. People will say don't run from your past... Why the hell am I supposed to carry my past? Especially if in the end it will make a strong, real man.

Astérix Légionnaire, c´était là où j´ai appris le français comme petit élève en Allemagne. Boris Vian, George Brassens et Maxime Leforestier s´ensuivaient. Mais la plus fameuse pour moi, c´est la Craonne des poilus. Les état-majors des deux cotés de la tranchée avaient très peur que les soldats vont se fraterniser à la fin. On y était très proche à l´humanité.

My mother rip when I was kid back in late 80's was getting new carpet fitted. We left guys to it and on return one guy had accidentally hit his hand with carpet knife,blood was all over uncarpeted floor. My mother said get to hospital and he respectfully declined and asked if she had sowing kit and apologized for mess lol he wanted to self stitch his hand with a few inches long slash lol guy had been in legion we found out over next few days. Absolute gentleman and returned to finish job,, different breed.

Je découvre ce documentaire. Mon fils a fini la présélection avec succès. Il a fait 3 ans dans l'armée en Nouvelle Zélande et maintenant la Légion. Depuis tout petit il voulait joindre l'armée. J'avais pas de nouvelles donc j'ai téléphoné. Il a signé pour 5 ans et a commencé l'entrainement.

je suis d'Aubagne , la légion fait partie de notre vie , je ne veux pas juger , je suis pas la pour ça , la Légion a fait prospérer notre ville et est complètement imbriquée dans notre tissu social , j'imagine même pas Aubagne sans la légion , la fête de Camerone est superbe , et l'histoire est encore plus belle , dans cette hacienda au Mexique , je suis allé plusieurs fois au musée , il est magnifique , je suis ni militariste , ni anti , je trouve simplement que des hommes de toutes nationalités qui sont venus mourir pour notre pays , avec un courage et une abnégation exemplaire , un sens du devoir jamais pris en défaut , sans oublier l'aspect bâtisseurs avec ses sapeurs a la belle barbe , je trouve que ces hommes méritent le plus profond respect , c'est tout .

I worked at a car dealership in Tennessee and had a friend there who had just returned to states after 5 years in the FFL. He was a sales manager and had two big pictures on his office wall. On peut vouloir travailler sans devenir un robot au service de système qui t envoye a la mort sans etat d âme. ...une médaille a titre postume pour service rendu qd tu revient pas ....un retour vivant mais bien abîmé ds ta tête ou ds ton corps car traité comme une merde ,un pion jetable et aussi par un job qui consiste à faire du netoyage pour le compte de la France .....bof bcp comprendront plus tard le triste deal qu il on fait ds l espoir de trouver un un revenu financier stable et avoir un beret blanc symbol d un statut honorable. ... Il faut avoir une sensibilité a la soumission et a l ordre ++

@@SACHANE95 tu parle de ce que tu ne sais pas. L'armée à changer ma vie. A chaque mission en afga c'est un plaisir pour moi. Je me sent utile, entouré des personnes les plus loyales au monde. Je suis entré dans l'armée à tout juste 18ans, aujourd'hui 24 ans, je rentre de mon 6éme déploiement et je suis heureux d'avoir pris une balle pour protéger non pas mon pays, mais ma population. Une fois la formation terminée, c'est beaucoup plus relax niveau ordres et relation avec ses chefs. Tu était content lors des attentats de savoir que NOUS les "pions" comme tu nous appellent, allions rendre balles pour balles ce qu'ils ont osés faire aux citoyens que je chéris et que j'ai juré de protéger coute que coute
