So basically, high deductible health insurance in the Philippines: cheaper and designed to be used only for major things. Anything not major is very cheap for out-of-pocket in the Philippines.

Mike good info but please have two microphones because moving the mic back and forth between the two of you made it hard to hear him. Some answers were left unclear. I know you did other videos with Mike about healthcare. Thanks though!

I don't mean to be too harsh. But nobody explained the cost or the different policies. Yes, you may have done this in another video that's a year old. But people want to hear current information. Plus, you are always getting new people to watch your videos. So, some redoing of information is important. I'm sorry but this video didn't help me on deciding where to purchase health insurance at. Thanks for letting us know he's a nice guy. People watch these KZfaq videos to make their decision on how to prepare to move to the Philippines to enjoy their retirement successfully.

Unfortunately it's impossible since everyone's health is different. But when I originally got mine with my ex wife it was P19k a year then after the one year with most pre existing covered went up to P28k a year.

@@ThatPhilippinesLife Thanks for replying. I do watch your videos from your start during the pandemic. But I do understand that there are a lot of different variables to health insurance. But I also know he has a peso and a dollar plan with costs to give people a general idea of the cost. I'm not trying to give you a hard time. Thanks for all that you do.

@@ThatPhilippinesLife What is most pre-existing conditions? Do they have a site that list the excluded coverages? He should provide a link to his site where coverages are in black and white.

Every line of the 20 page contract gives them an excuse not to honor their obligations. Best strategy is to put money aside and self insure. I have philhealth to make sure i wont be denied treatment if unconscious.

Unfortunately PhilHealth only pays a portion of your medical bill evidence to pay is still a requirement, don't be fooled. I have witnessed expats left penniless following a prolonged illness and worse if they pass the widow left to pay the outstanding balance. The Philippines is a wonderful place to live whilst you have your health but merciless during illness.
@nood5712
@nood5712 Ай бұрын
@jcjimc43 All degenerative diseases take decades to developed. Technically all these diseases are pre existing. After you show the first symptoms, the insurance company will find an excuse to deny you coverage. One example could be asking for your complete medical file from your home country. Refusal will result in your immediate cancelation.

Michael, La Union is pronounced as “La Oonyon” not like the vegetable with the soft o in the beginning, if that helps. It’s the “oo” sound as in spooky or cookie.

I pay for catastrophic insurance here in Thailand for inpatient only, but I have a 70+ friend from Norway who is after years, move back to Europe, because he is developing Parkinson’s, and the new medication that is working is US$1,000/mo. Things like Chemo or dialysis would be very expensive to do on a regular basis as well.

I like his recommendation to keep your Medicare for those first 12 months just to be safe. I don't like what I heard about those known pre-existing conditions stuff being excluded BUT then becoming permanent exclusions. I remember watching another video interview where that did happen to a guy on this insurance and he was in better health after those 12 months than when he first got the insurance. What is an unknown pre-existing condition? How can it be considered "pre-existing" when it something one didn't know they had? I'm also curious how far back those medical forms "look back" at your medical history (1 yr, 2 yrs or more). In my case, I was diabetic (taking insulin) last year but now I don't need it or any medication for diabetes since getting my blood sugar under control with diet and exercise. I've taken a high-blood-pressure medication (Losartan) for 20 years and will probably always need to take it to keep my blood pressure normal. Does something like that that exclude people from treatment for anything heart related, permanently?

Thanks guys I am still on the fence with health insurance in the Philippines. I kept my Medicare and also have a supplement. All I would want is fix me up to take a 16 hour flight to the US. I am also going to look into Phil Health. I know it’s not medical insurance it’s a discount for treatment. But what I have been told from friends Phil Health gets you in the hospital without up front money. Michael thanks again for another great video.

Cut the bacon and gravy heavy meals and instead go light to bring personal weight down and a host of health related problems like heart disease and diabetes. Add this with exercise and sleeping well you shouldn't have a reason to take meds. Heck, Im 60yrs and I haven't taken meds in my life ever. You can do it. Meds leads to dependence and more meds and high cost. Leads to depression and early death. 😅😂

Question on the healthcare over there - Say you do have a heart attack or stroke or something really bad and you're not able to communicate effectively - do the hospitals patch you up and get you alive again like we have in the US (EMTALA)? Or do they just let you die because you can't necessarily pay right there and then?

The easiest insurance is the one that pays a lump sum, no questions asked. We have a field trip(I think, it' such a long time ago) before in highschool then insurance person suddenly appeared at our class doorstep selling insurance for P10. She explained if you lost a finger we'll give you P1,000 and then if you lose a leg we'll give you P5000 and so forth, no questions ask. It's all voluntary anyway. Then I suddenly saw a loophole what if I buy 2 insurance would I get P2000 if I lost a finger she just smiled thinking I just saw their loophole and graciously agreed. Then my classmate expressed annoyed thinking I was crazy.
