It is not only done in Scheveningen but also in much other cities and towns. As stated in the video a Swim club started this in 1960 as start of a new swim year and each year more people joined them in the dive. Sponsor Unox is also famed for it's pea soup, Erwten soep in Dutch, and you will be given a bowl of this soup afterwards to warm you up. Pea soup is traditionally a winter soup with much spices. The events are free and the orange Unox hats are given to every participant. The charity check that was shown in the video came from Unox/Unilever owns company money.

Unox means Unilever Oss, where Oss in English is ox, a city in the Netherlands with meat industry.

Another fun fact: a group of older ladies agreed to meet and swim together every day in natural water. They liked it so much that some of them continued even when it got colder, resulting in all year round swimming. Only ice can stop them. Compliments to them for their courage and perseverance!

I don't go all the way to Scheveningen. I dive in the icecold water of the IJssel, a big river in the The Netherlands. This year it was'nt much of a dive. I stood on the dike and just sled in because of the very high water. The river was just 10 centimeters below me. So I had to climb about 3 meters onto the dike just for a dive. I got fined by the way because we were not allowed to do it because of this high water. The current of the river was too strong they said. Stupid me. 😊

Yeah, but the fine was not so great. 😁 I got a small fine, just as a warning € 50,-. I told them I was a good swimmer and I just dipped underwater. They understood it, so instead of a €200,- fine they let me off with 50. If you talk nice and with respect you get a long way here 😂😂

2:18 Unox (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈynɔks]) is a food brand of Unilever that is available in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The brand is used for various meat products, such as rookworst (smoked sausage), but also for soups and noodles

i do this every year hahaha 🤣and i love it, unox is also known for their pea soup, which is often eaten in the winter, after the thumb they often eat a bowl of pea soup and smoked sausage sandwiches, that's why they promote the event

@@TeacherPaulReacts The so called rookworst (sausage) is the meat that is most combined with "Boerenkool" which is a typical Dutch winter food. So yes, Unox (a part of Unilever) sponsoring this it just a way of promoting their typical winter food products.

@@TeacherPaulReacts Unox is part of a multinational called Unilever and I'm quite sure you have plenty of products this company produces in your kitchen cabinets or elsewhere in your house.

Yeh it looks fun and I live close to the sea so I could go but no way. These people are not right in the head if you ask me. What I want to know is do they go because of social pressure from friends and family or they really think it’s a good idea? And yes they even pay to participate 🤯

@@evelien30 probably the same type of Dutchies that pay to go to a Toppers concert, go to a football match dressed as utter clowns and go to or watch Ik Hou Van Holland.
