Coolest items were the Pontiac wagon and the steel roof trusses. Back in the 50's my uncle and Grandfather purchased an entire railroad box car full of ceramic coated cement blocks. My uncle built his entire house with half of the blocks and sold the other half to a guy that also built his house with them. The guy that bought them from my uncle paid the same amount that my uncle paid for the entire box car load.....so basically, uncle built the outside of his house for free. It was at a railroad salvage yard.

The dart wasn't a competitor to the American. Yes Falcon and Nova and Valant. But the dart was bigger longer wheelbase sort of in between an intermediate. Like the early Comets. By 69 the American was still a small compact but the Dart was still in that in-between land of not a compact too big but not an intermediate to small. More of a competitor to the rambler classic.
@ernielaw
@ernielaw Жыл бұрын
Wonder you can't say the same about Valiant. The Valiant and Dart shared the same body from 1963 on. In Canada the Valiant had the same back end as the Dart from 63 to 66, but with the typical Valiant grill. The Darts weren't sold in Canada until 1967. The 61 and 62 Lancers were never sold in Canada.

That's so wild! Those first few minutes in the video...Here all of those cars have been sitting for so long and yet I can remember those basically rolling off of the line and brand new. I guess time flies when you're having fun. LOL! Total flashback to the time riding the 20" bike down the street and seeing the Chevelle parallel parked, etc. And lemme guess: It ran about $2,600 from the dealer. Go figure.

It was a real gamble to know what the bottom of that car looked like, and it sat in a precarious position on the hill to get it out without hurting it. The back was loaded with what I presumed to be asbestos. Given those factors it was an easy pass for me. Plus you always have to keep in mind that at an auction, the high bidder could have been ready to quit, or could have kept going higher

The PONTIAC wagon was a Chieftan Safari. That was the low end dog of the Safari world. The high dollar ones are Star Chiefs and have much more chrome, a different roof line, different windows (like a Noma), had leather interior, and were very rare. This car was probably pretty rare, but it was very low end compared to what I call the real Safari. I sure could have used some parts off of that Rambler American. The 57 Ford sedan would have been ok too. Most everything else looked like scrap. I guess scrap cars bring $300 now.

Here'a a bit of history trivia for you....about 28 minutes in, you show the Crosley refrigerator. Not only did Crosley make radios, appliances and even small cars--but they were the very first (and held the patent for a number of years so others couldn't) to offer shelves built into the refrigerator door for storage. That's where the name Shelvador comes from.
