Cannop Ponds are located in the Forest of Dean in the west of Gloucestershire. There is a stone works at the lower end of the two ponds and it is almost certain that they were used to power the works at some point. Today they form a beauty spot for visitors. This walk took place on a perfect sunny November day and although the autumn colours are starting to fade there is still lots to see. The area attracts a lot of wildfoul but they are still in the process of arriving for winter. There is something special about large bodies of water and sunny days and I did my best to capture that,
On the return journey we walk along track bed of the old mineral line between Drybrook and Lydney. Now a cycle and foot path. There are still ruminants of the old railway if you look carefully and the autumn light gives it just the right atmosphere. The ground conditions are in two halves with the western side prone to being muddy whilst the return along the track bed is very well surfaced. Enjoy this Autumnal walk on a gorgeous sunny day.
