Cannop Ponds are located in the Forest of Dean in the west of Gloucestershire. There is a stone works at the lower end of the two ponds and it is almost certain that they were used to power the works at some point. Today they form a beauty spot for visitors. This walk took place on a perfect sunny November day and although the autumn colours are starting to fade there is still lots to see. The area attracts a lot of wildfoul but they are still in the process of arriving for winter. There is something special about large bodies of water and sunny days and I did my best to capture that,
On the return journey we walk along track bed of the old mineral line between Drybrook and Lydney. Now a cycle and foot path. There are still ruminants of the old railway if you look carefully and the autumn light gives it just the right atmosphere. The ground conditions are in two halves with the western side prone to being muddy whilst the return along the track bed is very well surfaced. Enjoy this Autumnal walk on a gorgeous sunny day.

Oh Ron! That was absolutley wonderful. You brought back many chilhood memories of Easter holidays, of some 60+ years ago. I can clearly remember the ponds and watching the GWR pannier tanks running by with two carriages or trucks. Your camera work is as always, exceptional. You manage to capture the beauty of The Forest. The music was lovely. A million thanks for such a wonderful walk.

Another beautifully filmed video showing just a snippet of what the forest has to offer. With reference to the ponds the bottom lake next to the stoneworks was built in 1825 to create a head of water for the ironworks waterwheel in Parkend. The second pond was added in 1829 as the flow from the bottom pond was unreliable. If you had continued down the path where you though you had seen the old railway fence posts you would have seen the clay lined ditch that runs from the ponds all the way to Parkend still in place and still filling with water on rainy days. The stoneworks in recent years tapped into the ponds to provide some of their electric via a mini hydro electric turbine. Keep up the good work and keep safe.

Ron, this is a lovely video, beautifully filmed, with relaxing music and commentary. Can't beat a walk in the woods anywhere in the UK, especially at this time of year with the autumn leaves. I really miss this, as I now live in the USA. There are very few walking paths anywhere near where I live as all the land is private, so the lovely wooded areas are verbotten. I think this is going to be my go-to video to help me relax and bring back memories of walks and hikes back home. Thanks Ron!!! Best wishes, Ian

Lovely to see Cannop in the autumn. Visited that picnic site in September before it was ravaged by the creatures that lurk in the night. Brightened a dreary, dull, damp day here in Taipei. Very much enjoy the videos and watching your back catalogue helped me a great deal this year through quarantines and lockdowns in 4 countries. Near normal life here in Taiwan; how lucky we are. All the best.

That was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing that, and particularly thank you for thinking of us railway addicts. I enjoyed watching that throughout. The camera work was exceptional in places. I always find it uplifting to view your channel. It is a shame that - I assume - the Forest of Dean railway wasn't operational. They intend - eventually - to run a track through the entire forest at some point in the future. They were intending to get to Cinderford this year. - But that didn't happen; at least partially due to a pretty obvious reason.

What an absolute delight to behold! Beautiful scenery and lots of industrial archeology. Very Good Vlog, RON. I’ve been doing a bit of research on the old Moreton to Stratford Tramway. Originally horse drawn, but the line from Moreton to Shipston on Stour was taken over by GWR, when the Stratford section went out of business. There is still some track bed outside of Moreton, and a drive by suggests that the road crossings must have been manned. No bridges as far as I can tell. Further investigation required! Have a good weekend and take care👍

@@ParkinsonsWalks Hi Ron. It's so sweet of you and Pauline to be concerned about me, I'm sorry as I should have been in touch earlier, but I'm fine and I'm keeping smiling thanks so much. Of course I'm happy to share my business with you both as I can't get up to mischief and it's not an exciting life at the moment anyway!!!!!! I only work Wed, Thurs and Friday now so my weekend is for catching up after the week with shopping, tidying around, jobs etc and I have to be honest with you that my work on the house has ground to a halt. I've been spending some time trying to understand all this Covid business that's going on. Terrible as it is for the vulnerable section of the public that do catch this nasty thing, but I'm so shocked with what's happening to our lovely country and I suppose I've been scanning the internet to find our more and keep up with what's going on to try and make head or tail of things. I, like so many of us now just can't wait for it to be over and get back to some old normal once again. I saved watching your video until this morning when I had some decent time to enjoy it and I have to say it was like a breath of spring air and sunshine to watch. As well as working with each other, I'm in touch with my ex wife quite often and I'm also in touch with my son. My daughter, well the three of us are working on that one!!!!!!! Thanks so much again to both of you for thinking about me, I really appreciate that. Take great care of yourselves....Tim.
