Martin, use Adobe Illustrator instead of Photoshop when using text, then select 'create outlines' to the text, (or 'convert to curves' in Coreldraw) to convert the text to vector lines which will have perfectly straight lines with no breaks upon printing. Hope this helps!

The issue wasn't the sharpness of the lines, it was with the application of the transfers but I know what you mean. Cheers Martin

I've bought a box of this two-paper stuff, and some rolls of foils which are designed to stick to the toner. I watched quite a few videos which showed the wonderful shiny metallic finishes that can be produced. Of course, when I tried to do it, it wasn't quite so successful and I must have thrown away a dozen t-shirts. This stuff is tricky. I'm glad in a way to see that you have had the same problems of poor adhesion. As a previous commenter said, it's a fine balance between pressure, time and temperature. I started with this, simply because I couldn't get my Cameo to work, and it almost made me give up. The Cameo now works and provides me with plenty of earning opportunities, but the foils remain unused. Too risky when trying to apply them to specially bought-in garments.

@ Chris Whewell. Chris I'm contemplating going the A + B route. But here's the thing. I'll use old or cheap shirts to experiment on no need spoil specially bought garments. Like any other craft we are just going to have to develop our skills which inevitably means making a few mistakes . All the best and stick with it.

If I had a dime for each of the laser transfer papers & shirts I've destroyed, I'd be rich. This process is very unforgiving to any errors. Heat, pressure, and time need to be extremely accurate throughout the transfer. I found that using my Stahls Fusion swing-away heat press was so much better than my slightly cheaper clam-style Hotronix. I still hold my breath every time I use this method for decorating a shirt. It really isn't as easy as all the manufacturers or distributors of laser transfer paper make it look.

I had an issue with this paper, oki informed me to download a driver for coreldraw advanced printing preference and select thick level 2 which alters the paper gram setting, this causes the heater drum to regulate correct heat & pressure and let the front roller to pull the material, i went mad by the time i found out the solution and destroyed 20 a4 pcs, lesson learned, great video martin

I watched the video right from Forever. The pressure when you fuse the foil and adhesive, and the pressure to apply to the shirt should be higher. The gentleman right from forever said pressure during the adhesion to the foil is where many issues arise from.

Hi Martin, if I remember correctly if you go too hot it can harden the transfer, I had times when I had it too hot and I could not remove the A Sheet from the B sheet, and if you have a good press I would not even rub it with a towel, key is seperate the sheets as quick as possible. I really love this system, I just lost too much money testing it so I thought I would wait a little while for things to evolve. I just wish they would make a print and cut vinyl that works with sublimation :)

The foreverflex Soft rang are all single coloured sheets. You only need to print onto them with a black toner as the colour is coming from the transfer paper and the toner is what the B paper glue sticks to. The ink colour is not on show.

Thanks for showing the imperfections. These are the things which as you said might make one give up. Frankly the not needing to weed this makes it highly desirable. The failure on the edges makes me feel less enthusiastic. That said I think it has great promise. The not having to weed is a game changer for sure. I suspect once dialed in on temp, pressure and technique of removing the transfer "paper" will give the right recipe. Once again, thanks for your sharing. you provide a valuable service!

Very good possibility it is the pressure at the Bottom of the platen is less than the top (the nature of the clamshell press) please notice that your butterfly press was perfect because it was in the center of the press (likely pressure is even there). You may experiment with rotation of the shirt half way through your press, so lets say if it is 90 seconds , 45 seconds Elvis eyes are up, 45 seconds Elvis name is up and your letters will come up perfect.

Omar Mulla that's the major reason that almost all media producers recommend original OKI White Toner systems. These printers align in 1 pass, so there is no registration problem and furthermore they can be improved with TransferRIP Software. But for the flex soft system shown over here, the printer can be from various producers, as all you have to do is print enough toner onto the foil.

Christopher Sigmann I purchased a used C711wt, newer models are available now. I have tried the demo version of the TransferRIP and understand it rasterizes the image to get a softer 'hand' conserve the white toner. The software isn't cheap though :(
@chrishd84
@chrishd84 7 жыл бұрын
Omar Mulla it pays itself over time, just by toner savings (in some cases up to 60 percent) 😉 Also, the halftone rasterization is just one function of many. There is cost calculation, partial transparency preservation, choking function to avoid white outlines... How much is it where you are from?

Interesting feedback on here. I know that the Forever company endorses Oki laser printers. They are quite expensive and the paper isn't cheap. 25 sheets for £56 so experimenting is not for the faint hearted. The flexi non cut is okay if your only printing onto white T's but most people these days wear black T's and like full colour. I was wondering if there are white toner full colour printer alternatives.Any help and experiences with these will be of great help.

it's different for the Foreverflex papers. They come out shiny after pressing so you use a silicone paper to matt them off where as the transfer papers I use, are matt and you use a teflon sheet to make them shiny.

I enjoy your videos but I have a question. Why do you start testing with different times, temperatures, and pressures than what the manufacturer recommends? I would start with their numbers and work out from that. I have applied these transfers to some tshirts and they come out very nicely, even the very tiniest font. I was told to let them sit over night to cool or even rub ice over them before peeling off the garment. The reason the letters don't have clean edges as they should could be because they weren't cool enough (stone cold, not just cool to the touch), or because you applied the B sheet too hot, or because the pressure wasn't correct on one of the steps.
@reviewthat
@reviewthat 7 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video, I did a test with the recommended settings and it wasn't quite right. None of the instruction state they should sit over night, let alone rub an Ice cube over them. As you probably know, I have been in the t shirt biz for over 12 years and have a vast experience but showing the tests as I do will let people know that sometimes, things don't go to plan and you have to adapt. Equipment plays a big part. Normally, the instructions are a starting point that one may need to adjust based on equipment. I'm also aware that the things you said about the pressure and the A B sheet temp may need adjusting but also there is an issue with the printer not accepting the sheets. I show this as others may invest hundreds in this equipment and have the same issues. That is why I do what I do. Cheers Martin

I use the Galaxy Mug Press Pro and it's been great. I also only recommend the Ricoh sg3110 with the Sawgrass Sublijet R inks for sublimation. Cheers Martin

Hi Martin, I was wondering have you tried heat pressing with your dye based ink in onto Anvil Tri-Blend T-Shirts?

No I haven't. As long as they can take the heat of the transfer, I don't see a problem.

Do these transfers (or any of the Forever paper) feel like a big blotch of plastic on the shirt? I've used the DigitalHeatFX A/B paper and I don't like the feeling of it when it's on a shirt. It just feels like a cheap plastic transfer.

HI Marjorie, I have used my Ricoh for years with the Sawgrass Sublijet R Inks and the powerdriver software for the colour profiles and it has never let me down. You should check out the Ricoh SG3110 printer as it's a great sublimation printer. Also check out my training dvd as you'll get email support from me. Regards Martin

steve laming for the flex soft, you don't need an OKI White toner. You can work with almost any brand of laser printer. When it comes to the cost of white toner, the cost of the colours are quite regular. only white toner itself is a bit more expensive per cartridge but on daily business the toner costs per print won't exceed 0,50 cent per A4, which can even be reduced by 40 percent with TransferRIP Software.
@LogieJames
@LogieJames 7 жыл бұрын
If you buy official Oki carts, then yeah they can be quite expensive. You 'can' use compatible ones though which are much cheaper. I have 2 oki printers, one is on PayPerClick, so I get charged per page I print and all my toner carts are just sent to me from Oki without charge. My other one however is much older, not on PPC and I buy compatible toner cos it cheaper.

@reviewthat

You need to check your heat press to see if it is heating up evenly at the correct temp as this sets the ink into the transfer paper.

@ owen jeffrey. Sir, you can not be serious! Your work cannot be completed to a professional standard without a professional heat press. Domestic irons are out! forbidden! Give yourself a chance at producing good quality stuff where customers will be happy. All the best.

pitson Williams for the Paper shown in the video you DON'T NEED a white toner printer. You can even work with a cheap Canon LP 6030 which is available on Amazon for less then 200 USD. The paper can be bought at various dealers like Coastal, Conde, US Cutter, RPL, Reich Supply and many many more, just ask for 'flex soft no cut'.

Ramesh Tamang the knock off's like the sun angel weren't that successful. Meanwhile you got the OKI Pro7411 A4 printer or the OKI Pro8432 A3 printer in Australia. Pricewise it is not more expensive than in the US or Canada down under in Australia and therefore a cheap DTG alternative.

Hey Martin, I have a question about the cover sheet used to move the shines off the transfer. It’s pretty confusing as it’s called silicon paper/ finishing paper in some vids. Could you please provide me with the right name and where to get it? What’s also the different between it and Teflon sheet usage?
@reviewthat
@reviewthat 6 жыл бұрын
it's different for the Foreverflex papers. They come out shiny after pressing so you use a silicone paper to matt them off where as the transfer papers I use, are matt and you use a teflon sheet to make them shiny.
