Question, why don't we put a bevel on all horse shoes? Is it good as a preventive measure, or would it just screw up the horse's feet over time, like taking medicine for a disease you don't really have? Genuinely curious. What a work of art, though!

Why go to all that effort and then have the shoe beyond the end of the toe, increasing the break over ??? It didn't fit

I have to ask: why all the extra percussion with the hammer on the anvil? Seems like it would make a farrier tired more quickly, but that's just my opinion.

It puts less strain on the joints of the blacksmith. Instead of stopping the momentum of the swinging hammer with your muscles, you let the hammer dissapate its energy into the anvil by letting it bounce. This also conserves energy if you need to start hammering again quickly, because the bounce assists your upswing of the hammer.
