So... the video shows apprentice Nehemiah mostly standing around with hands in his pockets, while Frank, the master, made the weapon. So this competition was Frank vs Zack... master vs apprentice. Pretty sure I wouldn't be too proud, as a master, to beat an apprentice. As a master, your job is to encourage growth in your apprentice, not have them stand by as you win $10k in a contest against a far less experienced opponent. There's no honor in it. In this instance, If I were Frank, knowing dang well that Zack's master was gone, I'd have stood back and let Nehemiah do the job, without any interference at all. Then, regardless of the outcome, I'd have been proud of both students, and commended both for their excellent work. Zack did an outstanding job. I love the show, but this one bugs me...

I disagree with the judges on this one completely. he was on his own and his weapon technically received no damage (no chipping of the blade, just a minor roll). while the other weapon clearly was falling apart *and* it was a master/apprentice vs just an apprentice after the other master blacksmith had to leave for personal reasons. now, if you were to repair both weapons, which one do you think would take longer to repair ? the blade that just needs a wetstone run along it to bring back the edge, or the handle that forces you to take the entire thing apart and rebuild ?

I disagree. The judges should not alter the judgement based on the circumstances of who was able to work on the blade. Zack got some bad luck. Also, like the one judge said, the damage to the handle did not affect his grip, while the blade of Zack's did affect the Nzappa zap's performance. Due to that, the repair argument is not as strong of a point. I was rooting for Zack as well😔

For an apprentice working on his own, essentially competing with a master who had assistance, he did phenomenally. For only a single roll, turning in a heavy weapon, and having a slight cutting issue, he did outstandingly. Unfortunately, sometimes that's just how it goes. Personally, I am much more interested in how Zach progresses as a smith than the other two. He showed individual ingenuity, creativity, and capability that the other apprentice simply didn't because the master did all the work.

Not only is it unfair that Zak didn't have his master with him, their blades had a WAY different shape, it will obviously react differently during testing

I have a suspicion that Zack lost because his Zap didn't look like the example the Judges showed them.

As a toddler first learning the do’s and dont’s of handling a butter knife, first rule... “never pass and edged anything pointy side out”... both of these weapons were presented pointy side to the judges.

I feel like Zach only lost for the other guys to save face for the other guys, he had a heavy axe which isn't exactly a terrible thing, and it picked up a small roll, and the other guys had a handle that broke... and they had 2 guys working on it their weapons should have been head and shoulders above the other guy not just slightly better and more broken
@botulinum7143
@botulinum7143 3 жыл бұрын
Zacks weapon is actually better. I highly doubt a light axe with without curve will go through any kind of armour. Plus that straighter blade helped it cut better through the rope and piece of meat. That test was mostly determined by design and human actions.
