Could you guys please change your editing to include the final judges comments on why the weapon didnt make the cut, its so annoying not to hear those final explanations. I am left wondering again and again why they failed, usually I have a guess, but in this case it was especially hard to know without the judges final comments.

In watching this clip, I guessed that the reason's Mike lost was due to his weapon's top piece becoming loose, rivets on the handle, and the first swing on the 3rd test

I think this is one of the rare times the heavy weapon won the competition
@taddad26412 жыл бұрын
be fair a hammer like this needs a bit more weight to do its job properly. he had better overall construction and a much better handle.
@MunkyDrag0n2 жыл бұрын
Although weight is a great offense, the instability of the weapon's construction and an uncomfortable handle are greater offenses. When they said the handle was blocky and the nail points were sharp i knew that evened the score. The head becoming loose closed the loss.

Most studies I've seen come to the conclusion that the spike was mostly for hooking an opponent off a horse or off balance, while the hammer was the most used for attacking. The hammer end doesn't get stuck in an opponent nearly as easily, making it much easier to use against multiple opponents
@tomspring2132 жыл бұрын
That makes sense if it’s factual because I was wondering, (after the reveal), why the spike was forged with a bend in it. When fighting for your life it’s better to have a spike on you than to not but, if the blunt end was the focus, the back-end did too.
@rymaxrules6416 Жыл бұрын
the spike was also used for chainmail. as chainmail is built to withstand bludgeoning, but has a major weakness to piercing
@TheWhoamaters Жыл бұрын
@@rymaxrules6416 Yes chain will survive bludgeoning impacts, but without proper padding under it you won't
@procow2274 Жыл бұрын
@@rymaxrules6416 technically chainmail is meant to withstand slashing weapons since its basically impossible to cut through. Even if the chainmail survived being hit by a hammer the person under it probably wouldn't. And yes while it is most susceptible to piercing it is FAR better against it than displayed on this show. If it was that terrible there would be no need to shape weapons specifically for the task. I dont know where they got there stuff but that is NOT real chain mail bring used in this episode. Real ones dont explode and have rings fly off when something hits them. Real chainmail even though its more susceptible to piercing than other things is still difficult to stab through and can still save your life from stabbings.

In order to seat the hammer head rigidly on the handle, it is enough to make a hole 2 millimeters smaller. Then heat the middle part of the head with an acetylene torch and place it on the handle. The hole will tighten on the handle while it cools down.

1:50 Well, we know that it worked well against a interior hallow core door. But back in the day, the doors were nearly 2" thick oaken planks, reinforced with iron straps and rivets.
