You know how they have the evening mellow music, love songs, etc? Watching you this evening was just like that….all mellow and relaxed, just watching some peaceful painting as I end my crafting day…thank you a lovely evening. :)

I just wanted to mention that this was my first video I watched on your channel and I just fell in love with watercolor,. Then when browsing your channel I fell in love with arts and crafts again. Now I am the crafter in the family compared to my sister who is a preschool teacher and was the crafter. WoW!! I just am amazed at the end product even though I sat here and watched you do it! I have just bought some supplies to start painting and drawing with color pencils, paint and especially Watercolor pencils. I just love the look of them and what you can ultimately create with them. Your videos give me so much inspiration to get started. Also I have learned so much from just watching a few of your videos so far. I just love this picture. I like Forget-me-nots and I think that I might be able to try this one for my first drawing. I love how you blended blue and red? To make the color purple at the end. I enjoy your videos so much. I primarily sew and am branching into scrapbooking and mixed media. I love shabby chic and upcycling things that may have lost their original purpose such as vintage tablecloths and doilies with stains or rips. I would love to start to explore simple painting as part of my minibooks or altered art and you give me the courage to think I can do it. You make such beautiful and simple things but they show how truly talented you are. God Bless you for giving this beginner the courage to try. Keep sharing your wonderful gifts with the world. Pat

This flower has got to one of my favorites and orchids :) I can't imagine anyone calling you anything but extremely talented and educated about arts ( hee hee crazy art lady ) . As always I love watching you create. That's so awesome one of the girls wanted to do what you did, she did better than I could probably but tomorrow I'm opening my new box of watercolor pencils. Really enjoyed this, as I have wanted to do forget-me-nots, but have had trouble drawing them. I'm a perfectionist most of the time when doing my arts and crafts, and I get frustrated. As I've now watched like 5 of your vids in a row, I've realized a few things. It doesn't have to be perfect, try it in an art journal first, and don't throw something away before trying colored pencils on it first. These are just a few to mention. So thanks a lot for these videos, you're awesome in case someone hasn't said that recently :)

I used to hide everything, and keep it secret. One of my favorite things to do us color, and use stickers. I like doing collage and making what I call "happymail"which is a card or letter that I send in an envalope that is also decorated and maybe also hand made. It is so wonderful to find others like me, who like doing arts and crafts. I am so glad to find your ch. especially. I find your tutorials kind and friendly. Thank you ! made.

dear Lindsey, u live this tutorial. It reminds me of my early forays into painting. I used watercolor pencils , too. -I recently got into crafting w. recycles , and I was over the moon when I discovered other gals on Utube doing projects like me. I live in big time NYC, and no one crafts by my way. So I am seen as odd, at the very least. Or the garbage lady. Because I salvage paper, chipboard, bottles, containers , even broken toy parts,and use them to make projects. It has been very hard for me

Very nice! Thank you I love my inktence pencil they can be a little stubborn on certain papers but it just takes a little experiments to have them work properly. .people sometimes don't realize they are an ink not a water colour And behave a little differently I don't know why anyone gave this a thumbs down...you my dear rock!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Lindsey. I think I have finally got it. Its all in doing the shapes first.. I am so excited that I think I can start taking pictures and actually draw something. I think it was yesterday that I decided it just does not come naturally for me. Look at me today. It finally clicked. YIPPEE!!!!

TigerPrincess They are really nice! I bought 12 in a set but then went on to buy open stock of all my others. (I don’t have a huge inventory.) I have both the watercolor pencils as well as the Inktense. Enjoy!!

I want to start water coloring with watercolor pencils...which brushes do you find are the best and also possibly the cheapest? Also, what size or bundle are a must have for a beginner?

You have inspired me to paint. I have painted the nest tutorial twice, and just finished painting my version of forget me nots. All seems to go well enough until I do a final highlight, like how you did a last stroke of blue on the petals at the end. When I do that step I get a hard line when my picture is done. It seems I either get too much water and not enough colour on my brush, or enough colour to create a definite line when the picture dries. Do you have any words of wisdom to solve my woes?

After I rinse my brush I pinch the bristles with my fingers to remove the big drops of water but it is still wet enough to paint. I have the perfect amount of water this way to liquify my oencil or picj up fresh paint.

Sometimes with groups of flowers I try to show top, side, and back or bowed stem views -- or different sizes to the multiple blossoms-- for variation. I liked your sweeet forget-me-nots.

I love it! You make it look so darn easy! I must try that but my "lower studio" (aka the basement) is too darn cold right now. We are having another cold, cold, cold snap and its -15C (-5F) right now - and the basement doesn't feel much warmer.

Tell me about it, one of the cellar windows was left open because we lost power and have a hose for the bilge pump going out it and forgot) it was freezing, we re lucky we did not freeze a pipe or anything:)

Hello...love your videos, I've learned a lot so thanks! Would you have any suggestions on how to flatten paper back out after using water on the Inktense, especially if watercolor paper is NOT used? Then, would you recommend a sealant of some kind to preserve the work? Thanks in advance for any help!

This is a gorgeous tutorial. I am actually debating if I should buy inktense pencils. It seems like they are similar to watercolor brush pens as far as intensity except the other one is ink vs watercolor. Help me with this ….is painting with watercolor in tubes/pans preferable compared to inktense? I wonder if with inktense, you can create the same effect as in watercolor.

Tube watercolor will be more lightfast than the lends or inktense but they are all watersoluble.

Hi lindsay i have just bought this set of intense pencil and wanted to paint this lovely painting ,but I have noticed that I only have the iris blue in my set and I don't have the other 3 colours. I used what similar colours I had in my set but the painting didn't come out as well in my opinion . I have the set of 24 do you happen to know if the colours are different in the u.s to the ones here in the u.k. I have tried to find out but I can not find any information. Thanks lindsay loving every one of your watercolour tuts.😘

Kim it should be the same, you might want to get the additional colors open stock though because I think the colors from the 12 set will be in the 24 set so you would only be getting 12 new colors that you don't have already. Blick art materials lists all of the colors, they also have them open stock but I'm not sure if they ship, hopefully you can find a shop near you that has them individually:)

do you mean the watercolor pencils? I was using inktense watercolor pencils. Or do you mean the hollow paint brushes you fill with water? Those are Aquabrushes. Jerry's artarama has a set of 4 Aquaflo for $12 on sale, it is the best price for a nice aquabrush:)

You probably won't know which song I'm talking about, so let's just say it's kinda old and it's, well it's kind of a rap song? It goes "I like big butts and I cannot lie …" just change butts to flowers and you now have The Frugal Crafter theme song! Okay, yes, I'm embarrassed (face beet red!), but I couldn't resist! LOL!!?? You say it is hard to know when to stop and most times when you are showing us how to do something, I'm always saying, "No, stop". But your additions always add to the picture. I'm not sure if I'm a minimalist or just lazy.

Joyfulmomof6 I don't, there are so many, I use Strathmore watercolor greeting cards for a lot of my tutorials.

I got this tip from a watercolor artist: damp your watercolor paper with a sponge, then place on a piece of wood, like plywood. Making sure the paper is flat. Use a ruler or your hand to flatten it and get any airbubbles or extrawater out, just make sure you do not damage the surface. Then you can use this kraft paper tape to hold the paper onto the flat plywood. Let the paper dry out of any sunshine or direct light. Check frequently that thr kraft tape holds thr paper in place. After thr paper is dry, you can start painting on it, it won't roll. When you are done and it is dry, use a cutter and ruler to cut the paper out from the kraft paper tape. You can then wet the area where the tape is and re-use your plywood many times.
