Ford's first electric truck is shockingly good. It may not be the first EV truck to market, but Ford's "hybrid" approach of blending traditional F-150 parts with a dedicated EV-frame and drivetrain makes for a compelling no-compromises pickup truck that just so happens to have a plug.

Awesome review and when you mentioned it will do a donut, I wondered if you were going to explain further, and you did with a video clip! I just moved to the Austin area from another place in Texas and I keep seeing reviewers mention they are in the hill country of Austin or San Antonio testing the new f150, bronco, toyota tundra, etc. I'm jealous. The roads in the hill country can be really beautiful and I think it's cool to know that someone like Alex who has an excellent perspective and delivery on information that other reviewers are missing, is getting to experience these vehicles in my own "backyard". A person like myself won't be able to buy a cheaper version from a dealership until the supply vs. demand/ shortages subsides, but these videos let me know I'm on the right path towards getting a vehicle I can be proud of and enjoy.

Alex, Is it Front Trunk Comfort Index, Frunk Comfort Index or Frunk/Trunk Comfort Index? Kudos to Ford for providing independent rear suspension in a pickup. IRS is a feature we see in most premium SUVs so there is no reason a high priced, fancy pickup cannot have it too.

And yes, you can overcome that by throwing more money at it...which is a cost that is passed on directly to the consumer. Not all consumers want to pay for that in a vehicle that is used to do truck things.

Also, thank you for your comment about range and highway testing. IMO, EPA testing for range on an EV should be all highway as it's the worst case. Because that's when you need to really understand range. If you're just Intercity, then you're almost certainly close to a plug and it's not a big deal. Range is only an issue when you're long hauling the open road between DC Fast chargers.

I loved your towing explanation it was right on the money. The problem with long range trailering on EV trucks is not capacity nor range (anymore) its charging time. If you have a gas truck the range you get while towing is a second thought. You simply pull off in any corner and top it off in 5 minutes and continue merrily on your way. On an EV the range might be similar but now it takes 45 minutes! Most truck owners don't use their truck as "trucks" very much, but prospective buyers that intend to tow long distances on a regular basis. should be aware of that limitation.

Yeh in 5 years they'll cost more. Inflation is one thing but the price of lithium and other metals used to make the batteries is skyrocketing. The price of electricity to charge this things is also going to skyrocket. The real joke is the hidden cost of EV vehicles. The US government is massively subsidizing this entire endeavor. They are giving payouts and tax cuts to Ford and GM and government is also paying out for battery tech advancement and paying out for a EV charging grid. The taxpayers are paying for all of this while corporations sit back and collect bonuses and tax breaks and give us 90k dollar vehicles in return.

I know I say it all the time how much I love your reviews. And everyone I tell to watch or check out your channels...I joke that you are like my brother from another mother. ha ha 😇 But seriously you really do help me "feel" more "sane" how you notice every single lil' detail that I've noticed myself after either having owned 33 personal vehicles over the many years, or also having been in weekly rental vehicles from past convention traveling. 🤪 Thanks again for all you do!!! Secondly...when I'd first signed up (day of announcement)...my very patient wife the next day was like, "why don't you sign up to get two". She is like MasterCard Commercial...Priceless, as she does a great job of putting up with me!!!. But anyway, my two (2) "Reservation Numbers" are 12,424 apart. So again Ford let me know I made "the cut" for 2022 for the one that's being built the week of June 13th. BUT also, Ford has emailed me that my 2nd "Reservation Number" will NOT even be able to Order until 2023 and that also reservations are filled for the next two (2) years. So that's the email I got, regarding all that...hope that is not too discouraging for others. 🤔

It's a odd roll out with GM. The base base model will be Spring 2023, RST with a $105K price tag will be next in "fall of 2023" and at a yet to be announced time the other trims between $50-80K MSRP will roll out in 2024+

Can we say that Ford has been knocking it out of the park lately (and not just with EVs)? Bronco, Maverick, Mustang MachE, and now the Lightning. Your move, GM and Stellantis.

80% less range on certain load towing??? That brings the range down to about 50 miles range per charge. Gonna wait for cybertruck.

Alex, I don't know why you don't bring a dBU meter and a Satellite speedometer to gain most of these figures so you don't have to do these things twice. Seems like you could gain some efficiency with full reviews quicker by leveraging some technology.

The issue is you couldn't compare those numbers to the testing I do at more similar temps, the same altitude and road surface as the other numbers.

Under 40k. .... $39,975..... okay Fed credit, $7500 ok Dealer fed credit adjustment +$7500 + Dealers market markup fee +$20,000 $40k isn't 40K with vehicles anymore. Just going to wait for the looming recession and the auto industry to collapse I guess. My cars are running fine but I could use a more modern one, but with the way dealers have been treating its customers, its like having demand isn't good enough for them. They have to gouge prices and when you simply discuss it with them, they act pretentious about it all. Well what goes around comes around.

Is there no law that prevents these dealers from this? I mean its not like when iphones are sold out, best buy or target doesn't then double the price because of market demand. Its not like apple even has to do that, and they're still a 2 trillion dollar company that could buy Ford a dozen times over give a take. Without harming its customers.

@@barretwallace4176 look, dealers don't give a shit about their customers, not 2 shits, not 1 shit, not any shits. Manufacturers would NEVER ever want to adopt having to deal with hundreds of thousands to millions of their customers directly. They like having dealers to filter all of that so they don't have to. Besides they make dealers buy a certain amount of vehicles, and they can't really pick it choose, they have all have floor plan they have to follow or else they'll find the next schill dealer who's willing. I'd love if it was different, but car buy experience, and overall car ownership experience is pretty bad. since I visited overseas where owning a vehicle isn't a complete necessity and they cater to actually NOT owning a vehicle, it makes a difference. But US is different, especially Texas, where you can only walk around your neighborhood and anywhere else you better be driving, or be driven over.

That's $59,975...almost $60k for the base model. Imagine how much the top trim would cost with the same markups.

@@barretwallace4176 a lot of states have laws that benefit dealers. Ford is working on selling electric vehicles direct to consumers. We’ll see if that comes to fruition. If successful, and GM follows, I could see dealers finally backing off some markups.

What do you mean when you say that there isn't a frame in the Rivian? I thought the Rivian has a ladder frame, and that difference being it is bonded to the rest of the body vs being soft mounted like the lightning...
