I swear I play worse with a metronome.

This is such a genius method of practicing. This way you can really start to feel the accented notes in those really fast passages. I love how the beauty of the melody is kind of highlighted by just those sparse notes too. This is so awesome I’m gonna definitely have to start doing this

Gurl, ima be honest: I regularly avoid your content (even though I think I’m subscribed) because I’m so jealous (Lord, forgive me). I’m 35 and such a later bloomer. I FINALLY joined my first jazz ensemble as a sub (super excited) and it’s a great feeling to be apart of a musical community even though I was in undergrad and grad school. That said, I’m gonna stop hating on you and give you your flowers now, mama! 💐💐💐. You’re a star! This is one of my favorite piece of Chopin’s and I played it years ago. Keep up the lovely and knowledgeable work in training and inspiring the masses!

I need to constantly remind myself that Nahre is a prodigy and not a normal pianist. Divide tempo by 2 or 3 before trying at home.

So i was having so much problem with this piece. Then i found this video, and i was able to learn it with this technique and was also able played the piece in the Advent christmas at school. This helps so much THANK YOU

I’ve always rushed this part and rarely make any mistakes on it, thought it was the same for everyone.

This is the way my mind perceives music, which is why I can take my time reading random parts and apply the rhythm later, made me reliant on it though, meaning I can't play a piece properly without hearing it clear enough first and it's harder for me to read the rhythm of off sheet music because I haven't really had to use that skill

Meanwhile me: oh so this is a C major chord. 😂 Maybe one day I'll be able to this as well.

And that last part of the video gave me an idea of a composition..

you are amazing and your drop dead gorgeous. I used to practice like crazy then I took care of my mom with my brother for 13 years 24 hr care and she passed . I didnt even want to play again after she died but picked it up and played . I can still play but I cant do things I used to do when my hands were young. Dont waste a minute of your youth people

It's so interesting you do this! I figured out that doing the same thing with drums (a basic rhythmic figure I can play with) helps me playing with more complex music much more than a metronome does

Fun fact: that exact passage was borrowed verbatim from the end of the third movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. It's even in the same key.

We do that a lot in modern styles, but good idea.

This is how good drum teachers tech. Have a bass line in your head or hum it while you play around it.

This is amazing,! Instead of C# minor i use E major bass notes descending 'supplimentery figure'. Then bounce around in C# minor using octave displacements (Amaj 7.)

This is maybe the best piano tip I've ever seen. I absolutely hate metronomes but this makes perfect sense to me. I might actually be able to fix my rushing

That's why you train slowly.

The other thing you can do is record yourself from a keyboard that feeds MIDI into your computer and you can see with your eyes where the unevenness is, if it's too subtle to hear with your ears because there's too much other stuff going on. What you're doing in your left hand can also influence the evenness of your right hand passages if your hands are not 100% independent, which I don't know anyone who has that.

Thanks for the tip, Nahre, but I'm still learning the difference between a triad and a triplet. I mean, last week when my friend asked me why I'm banging my head on the piano I replied that I was playing by ear.

I love breaking down passages like these to just the notes on the beat to reset me from rushing, but haven't really invested the time into making a musical metronome... I remember this from an older video, it does sound fun though, should try!

The Scriabin Preludes are also helpful for polyrhythms more rare than the more common three against four, or two against three, such as five against three.
