In Greek Xiphos is writed ξίφος ," the starting "ξ" sound more like "ks" in English and not with X which in English sounds more like "Z" in most words with a starting X .So Xiphos sound more like Ksiphos when you try to pronounce in English.I know it seems weird but since the word is straight up conversion of the letters(and not a very thoughtful one) of a Greek word I thought it would be better to know the actual pronunciation of the word.

A leaf shaped blade has always been one of my favorites to swing. The slimmer taper near the hilt leaves to the mass balanced closer to the point and swings with a pull through similar to a machete. On a smaller more mobile double edged blade like a xiphos the combination of power and maneuverability in your striking really adds up.

Alec, you should try 10% aluminum bronze. You can make wicked cool knives out of it because you can oil quench it to make it very hard. The aluminum acts like the carbon in steel, and precipitates out of the bronze when you quench it. You can actually see it happen because the bronze becomes more silvery and less of the bronze color.
@kinggrigori192
@kinggrigori192 5 жыл бұрын
Quench at very dull orange, about 1400-1500 degrees. Oh also, when your bronze overheats, you can somewhat correct the grain structure by hammering it at lower heats as long as it didn’t fall apart on the overheat.

This is just a guess, but I think that forging to the limit opens the door for a big failure and this is something that a youtuber cannot afford. OK - once or twice it will be accepted by the mass public, but if it becomes a norm then the views (and as result money) will decline. Still I agree that for an axe or small knife it will be a great project.

I just recently found your channel, but I have to say, it’s amazing! Now for the suggestions: there’s an Indian dagger called a haladie, which is essentially a two-sided curved dagger. I think that forging it would create a unique challenge. Maybe something to think about.

Will it get put through normalizing cycles in your new kiln to improve the grain structure? What's that like with bronze?

Glad to see you tackle a ξίφος. I hope that you'll eventually tackle a Hallstatt sword - with Noric steel, by preference.

Watching you hand forge and explain each step is what made this channel great. Since your move it’s been a bit more fluff. Good to see you return to your roots.

Alec I believe that bronze is actually ampco bronze. If so it's actually a lot like machining aluminum because it's got aluminum in it. Very easy and nice to machine we use it quite a bit at work. Tip when using it. Whatever you would normally cut aluminum with use it for this material itll work just as well.
