Thank you! I am Protestant and this was excellent. I wrote the prayer down so I can use it in my devotions. A lot of Protestants will squirm at a pre-set prayer BUT these are so helpful for starting out and then listening to the Holy Spirit to direct your prayer. There are even books being written about prayers and certain topics in the Protestant world so it seems the Catholics were right all along lol!! I am praying for the Catholic Church to rise up and become a beacon of light to the world! John 17 20-23 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one- 23 I in them and you in me-so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." AMEN!!

I was abused by a family member from the age of 2-12. This was in God’s permissive will & He will bring a greater good out of it. I cling to this belief because I have faith & trust in God. It was hard to come to but has released a wave of forgiveness for the perpetrator & those who failed to protect me, which then led to tremendous healing within myself. I’m old now & everyone involved has passed away. I sincerely pray I will be able to glorify God together with them in heaven & pray the Divine Mercy chaplet for their souls everyday. The grace of God at work.

Thank you for this video. It helped me a lot. One thing I try to remind myself about my enemies, or those who have simply hurt me, is that they too are loved by God completely. I try to love them the same way, as much as I am capable. It also facilitates my ability to forgive. Your explanation of willing them to love the Lord in this life and the next was so helpful - what an incredibly generous way to see others, and a good way to help us forgive.

But I keep faith even as I constantly struggle to take care of my children. My husband died years ago. At times I feel so alone. I’m a single mom. I suffered an heart attack a year ago and I’m battling lupus. Both of my sons are autistic. I’m constantly struggling to buy groceries. Struggling to pay rent. Struggling to buy my children’s school supplies. I don’t know how I’m going to get through it but thankfully I have you Lord! I know you will provide. Faith over fear! Praise God and his son Yeshua!

This, without doubt, is my greatest failing. Whereas I am capable of dismissing slights, and even intentional harm caused by others, with relative ease, forgiving those who have wounded me deeply -those whom I told directly what would cause me the greatest pain, and did they that anyway, I cannot seem to forgive. I am to wish what is best for them? … That will clearly take time. At this point, I wish perhaps the MOST blasphemous things upon them. This, I am well aware, is the Sin, of my pride speaking … much like continually taking poison, in hopes that it will affect THEM. My name is Chad. Please pray for my wholly unworthy soul.

I like the way he describes forgiveness and unforgiveness as a switch. I think we tend to think of it as a rocker or flip switch. But it's more of a dimmer switch. Sometimes the brightness goes down, we can turn it back up or down as needed, but the forgiveness should remain and can remain in the "on" position. It's kind of a long story, and I won't put it down here. But, I was in seminary for 4 years, and there was a bad priest who was in my counsel, and was essentially very manipulative, as well as emotionally, psychologically and spiritually abusive. The external issues of his decisions have been resolved, and he's no longer priest, or involved with that seminary. But in my wrestling to discern and forgive him, and others who were involved, I realized the anger is like embracing a hot stove pipe - the injustice is the fuel for the fire, the initial frustration and sadness at the injustice is the fire itself, the smoke and heat are the ongoing feeling of anger, sadness or betrayal and the emotions that result from those feelings. So I realized that, in this image, as often as I choose anger, I turn back and embrace that hot stove pipe. And sometimes you need to, sometimes it needs to burn. For a time it will, it's inevitable. If there was truly an injustice done, anger, sadness, frustration, any and or all of these are natural responses. But I shouldn't remain there or else I will also burn. What does one do when they are burned? Usually you're hurt, so you turn and run to and cry to someone worthy of trust, maybe that's a parent or or insert other figure here. Spiritually, that parent of consolation is our Lord on the Cross. The choice to forgive is turning to and receiving that healing embrace. For a time, that may have to be repetitive, as Fr. Gregory here refers to it as a light switch of sorts. But I do believe, and I'm firmly convinced that eventually that situation can be let go (I suppose, if one were to run with the hot stove analogy, one coule move, and totally leave behind that painful damage and unforgiveness and find a place that's not burning. I hope this image helps someone!

One great part of this video was having things broken down by the different aspects of the person: spiritual/physical/emotional/etc. Having a more concrete idea of where/how hurts exist in each of those places helps give some order to what seems like a whirlwind of chaos. It’s easier to take steps toward healing and forgiving when progress can be measured in each area of being human. When they all get bound up together and experienced simultaneously, it’s an intense place to be and difficult to navigate. Laying out explanations and practicals so distinctly for the dimensions of our humanity is just so good. Thank you.

I don't have the financial means to remove myself from someone that's really done bad things to me, (some of which are really high levels of evil) so I have to see them literally everyday and that's my obstacle to forgiving, cause I've no space from them to be able to fully heal... It's almost as if it's impossible to forgive but then I thought that can't be true, so the only solution I've come up with is setting strict boundaries. Does anyone have any good books on setting boundaries with people you don't trust and want space from? (something that's not opposed to the Catholic faith). Something that respects my right to distance myself from someone that's really crossed the line with me and that I genuinely need space from, to heal. Thanks.

I once heard a phrase in relation to forgiveness that continually draws me back; “we must join our suffering to Christ’s suffering.” I don’t grasp what it means. I forgive, but I don’t know how to not carry forgiveness like a weight. Do I just become stronger with the resistance training, or is there some way to join it with Christ and not feel its weight? I do not get this concept. What does it mean to join our suffering with Christ’s? I don’t understand this joining, but instinctively I know it is truth. But how? Thoughtful comments are welcome.
@fromlocuststolove3143

Christ was completely without sin and he suffered, agony, embarrassment, loss, torture of the cross and so much more all for our sins. He carried a cross that was not His so that we may accept salvation. Often times when someone hurts us it’s like Fr. Pine said because they sinned against us. We didn’t deserve it. How much more did God not deserve how we all sin against him continuously. That’s why we join Him in suffering. I know I didn’t deserve (this) but God definitely didn’t deserve the life He lived for us. So gladly we look to him to see how we carry our cross (we ultimately deserve), as He carries ours (that he did not deserve in the least). Someone recently hurt me so bad recently (why I’m watching this video) and said “I don’t know how you could ever forgive me”. I said “because God forgave me.”

Where are we taught to forgive those who commit serious sin against us and are unrepentant and recalcitrant about it? Is that in Scripture, Tradition or in magisterium? Obviously we should be willing, but unless we are universalists, it seems to me that God doesn't forgive unless we repent so are we asked to forgive others more than God does us?

Sorry but P. Pio didn't forgive everyone. God doesn't. Christ didn't. Some people are extreme psychopaths towards totally innocent people. Forgiveness certainly has it's place but certainly *NOT* in every case. There is a lack of discernment regarding the proper use of forgiveness that is a basic fault of Catholicism. And is a good reason for rejection of Catholicism as owning God's only truth Therefore to say "forgive others their sins if you wish to be forgiven yours" can be interpreted as like: If I wish to have 3 or more wives, all I need do is forgive other men who have 3 or more wives and then I may go about doing the same. Really? Yes. So saith the Lord God of hosts. Alrighty then. In that case I'm all in
@stphnklptrk
@stphnklptrk 10 ай бұрын
I think all you heard in your "interpretation" was *wish* . It doesn't make any sense in reference to the quote you mentioned. Forgiveness isn't a bartering tool or a wishing well (just as God isn't a genie simply because you prayed to Him for something). Forgiveness is a work of grace.
@me-ds2il

@@stphnklptrk Really? So you know all about God & Jesus? Lets have a look at a few. What does Jesus say about people that abuse children: "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." Nothing about forgiveness there. I guess you missed that one. And: *Luke 19:27* "But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. 27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me" Guess you missed that one too. Then there's the great saint Padre Pio who would often turn people away from his confessional refusing to hear their sins. Then there's A. Hitler. Baptized & confirmed Catholic who hated the Church. I guess you're gonna tell me you forgave him long ago. Really dummy. Then there's a whole bunch of other people like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. The list is really long into the millions.
