Went a few times to The Goldstone Ground with Charlton. Had some very eventful games there including a 0-7 defeat( We were 5 down at half time)and a 5-3 win. BHA are another club who have had a very tough time. They left there and had to play home games at Gillingham and then the Withdean which was an awful place for football. Now, they are thriving as a club in the new ground and playing top flight football. I wish them all the best for the future!

I have supported the Albion since 1972 and the Goldstone gave me my greatest days as a Brighton fan. UTA.

Spent many years at the Goldstone Ground, from the late 70's to 26th April 1997 and the final game. Now a season ticket holder at the Amex after having a ticket for Priestfield and Withdean. So all 4 grounds have been my home.

I remember reading a fourfourtwo article years ago which ranked Withdean and Priestfield in the top 10 worst grounds in the entire United Kingdom.

@@historyoffootball87 Priestfield was horrible a friend of mine described the covered terrace behind one goal as a cowshed. We were never made to feel welcome just as a cash cow to improve their ground which obviously our money went towards but still looks like a shithole. Withdean was bad as most stands were uncovered but at least it was back in Brighton and we did get promoted a number of times whilst there.

Went there three or four times when Brighton played City, loved the place .... some bad results, one particular good one, and always a bit lively at the station after the match!

Went there in 1992 for a league game, a Tuesday night game all the way from Derby. Always remember it for the standing area for the away fans. Just like something from the 1950's. Long journey home, back about 2.00 in the morning and work the next morning but worth it after a 2-1 away win.

Yes it was uncovered for visiting fans. Your lucky it wasnt raining. 1950s? 1980s ground maybe but not 50s sonny wasnt built out of wood and daub and wattle was it?

@ PRO PAINT AND DEC SWINDON not sure if you are a Brighton or Swindon fan but I was not dissing the Goldstone. Back in the early'90's many grounds all around the country had uncovered away terracing before the all seater rule became compulsory. Must have been to about 50 odd different grounds all around the country at the time. Many had uncovered away terracing, even Stamford Bridge back in 1990. Watch the old video's from the 1950's and before and you can see how big the terraces were and why the crowds were so much larger in some grounds. Doubt it was much fun in Winter though. Hell of a lot cheaper though, used to cost £5 to stand on the terracing at most grounds back in the early '90's. What the Goldstone was built from I don't know but two work mates who are from Brighton said it was there a few years ago until demolished to become a retail park so doubt it was wattle and daub.

Wonder how those well intended who held that banner up feel about the sale now? Truly incredible what the club has achieved.

The atmosphere at the Goldstone was ten times better than at the AMEX. I was there for 36000 in the old third division.

Went to a division 1 match BHA vs Liverpool, had a great view in the north stand ( Hove park end) in the early eighties, great to see the stars of that time.

Went to the stadium 5 or 6 time with Millwall standing in various places. Got drenched standing on the open terrace. Worst defeat was in a play off. Most Wall fans I knew made Brighton a weekend away. Some great pics of the old treatment mob there in their blue surgical hat's. Miss the Goldstone away days.

I went there in September 1992. We ( Manchester United ) played Brighton in the league cup. We drew 1-1. Great old ground and I would rather go to a ground like that than the soulless boxes of today. You mentioned this game!! I forgot Beckham came on as substitute to be honest!!
