I love that this car is getting another chance at life. Old vehicles no matter if it is Ford, GM, Chrysler ect just don't wanna stay dead. Even if they sit for 40+ years they are still ready to go sometimes. I also loved when your children were helping you out. Stuff like that makes me smile. I wouldn't lower the car. I think it looks great the way it is.

As a 78 year old Black Vietnam War Veteran, this rebuild brings me back to the days in Fairfield SC when my great uncle would load up 6 of my brothers along with his wife and then drive us 12 miles to the very small town of Winnsboro S.C. The roominess and the comfortbiliry of the Pontiac will forever live in my memory. “ Thanks for the memories.” A Nam Vet!!

I am really liking this project (1953 Pontiac). I was an engineer at Pontiac from 1970 to 1980 at the same buildings where this was built. I also love you taking the time to interact with your children. I have grand daughters the same age and they work all day, every day with their father on our farm. They will have serious skills while still in grade school. Yours may too.

I love hearing these old cars run. Love the how the transmission sounds with the gears humming along.

Even though it won't be restored it just doesn't need to, it's perfect as is, the surface rust gives it character and tells a story! She looks perfect as is! It's funny how you thought about swapping the Sedan Delivery ambulance body on this before!

I'd take the boat off and find a visor for the old girl. I personally love it, I have a thing for early 50's cars with the big rear fenders. Maybe one day I will have one.

Don't lower it..I think you should use S.O.S pads on the bumbers and remove that rust..it would pop man..lol

I love that your daughters are spending time with you helping with the cars and learning. I used to help my dad the same way. I cannot tell you how valuable it has been knowing how to at least change a tire over my life to this point and now I’ve finally taken on my own project car.

What a killer car! Looks great but I’d suggest restoring the interior to original style. Those motors are so reliable; keep maintaining and running it and it’ll only get better. The boat looks cool on it as well. The segment with your babies was so sweet; you’ve got some mechanics in the making 😉.

My dad bought the same car in 53 when I started first grade. The familiar whine of the tranny as you accelerated through the gears brought back memories. That was the last car dad bought new until the 70’s when he bought another Pontiac. The car never gave us a problem. Dad kept it perfect.

It’s adorable that your girls want to help their daddy, just like like Derek’s boys from Vice Grip Garage plus more. I can see your girls following in your footsteps the way you took inspiration from your dad. My son learned his car interest from me, I’m not a mechanic but enjoyed helping a mechanic do certain easy tasks for a taxi company that I once drove for. I always checked tyres, fluids etc etc as I drove over 1000 miles a week and when I was doing these checks my 3 year old son used to come and watch me do these checks and was always asking “what does that do daddy?”, or “daddy, you didn’t check your lights ”! My daughter was less interested which is a pity because we were and still are best friends lol! Taught my son to drive and passed his driving test 6 weeks later. I did the same with my daughter but she wasn’t interested! Well done on your hard work bringing everyone with such interesting content, 3 generations working on cars is nice to see 👏👏

My first car was a 39 Chevy with the 3 speed shift on the floor. Paid $40 for it in Eden, N C in 1957. So you know I'm sitting here watching every repair being done to the Pontiac. My aunt and uncle lived in Winston-Salem and they never owned anything but a Pontiac. Lots of good memories for this 81 year old.

When you first sprayed the car with water it looked so nice on the hood and I visualised how good it would look with a new paint job in a dark maroon.

The car looks pretty good with all the new chrome and the patina. You need to finish the "chromification" with the bumpers. It sure looks good on that country road!

When I was a teen looking forward to getting my license, my middle-aged schoool-teacher maiden aunt let me help her pick out her first car. The car we picked was this one, automatic shift, grey color. It was big and ugly and pompous on the road, exactly the car she needed. It is delightful that you've rescued this one.

Love this ol'Pontiac! I think it looks great the way it is, and I wouldn't change the ride height! The only thing I would do is eliminate that roof headliner! It kind of detracts from the over all look! Love all your videos!

It is spectacular how this car didn't crumble apart from being eaten by the rust and stayed sound structurally, I bet it was covered from the rain most of its time.

My great uncle was a Pontiac guy his whole life. His first car was a 53 Chieftain. He has pictures and the one thing he pointed out to me was, the trunk accent was shaped like shaped like the F4-U Corsair warplane that appealed to war vets from both WW2 and Korea alike. What an amazing find! The motor is worth the price of the car alone. Thanks for sharing this!

Spent many hours out in the garage with him installing water pumps, changing alternators, and even swapping a 455 Oldsmobile engine into a Dodge pickup so he had a work truck/parts runner (and sleeper! 😁😁). My parents pwned a 1953 Chevrolet. They brought me ho,e from the maternity hospital in it in 1955. So much of that Pontiac is familiar to me. Thanks for rescuing it.

Those were the best looking ancient drum brakes I’ve ever seen! I’ve replaced a lot of drum brakes on a lot newer vehicles than that and they are almost always completely cashed out with the cylinder bleeding to death. Cool old car 👍

my father taught me at a young age how to fix vehicles, its great to see your children learning. they wouldn't learn unless they were shown. i fixed cars, did brakes, brake lines, now i fix atvs and side by sides. awesome job man. keep it up

I had a identical car when i was in high school it was 9 years from new, I used to run it up to 70 mph in 2nd gear when racing my buddies won a lot of street light to street light races. It was a beautiful 100 dollar car !!

Glad you kept the straight 8. Now, it needs some interior work to make it nice.

I think the patina look suits the car just fine and it still has enough character to be very presentable! Considering how much actual paint goes for, $150 is dirt cheap for the Poppy's Patina treatment. You save all that time and money skipping the body work and respraying, too. The alternative would be a slippery slope that leads to fully restoring the car, which isn't budget minded at all. The interior on the other hand? You could probably get away with repairing the existing seat covers, but definitely look into doing something with that headliner! Frankly, even having no headliner at all would be a better option than leaving it as-is. It honestly hurts the looks of the car more than anything.

Sir, this car is great ... It ran after this hibernation & I have to say it was made in USA with pride. Keep the patina looks, fix the interior & any mechanical issues. Don't lower the car it is awesome as it is. And my sincere greetings to your daughters.

Boy does that bring back a lot of memories to me. My Aunt Merle back in the day, used to buy a new Pontiac every 2 or 3 years way back in the late 40s and early 50s. She owned "Sammon's Restraunt" in Hot Springs Arkansas, and would drive it out to San Diego to visit us every summer. My Dad's ride was an old '38 Oldsmobile 4 dr sedan with a 6 cyl engine. Gosh it was great when Aunt Merle would take us for a ride in her new Pontiac "Straight 8".

My dad was a Pontiac Man and I remember the straight 8 Pontiacs and Buicks. They had that distinct straight 8 sound.
