Episode 3 - Age of Thunder
In which I learn Faerun, Kara-Tur, and Zakhara aren't separate continents and The Sundering doesn't have much to do with the Age of Thunder. Enjoy~

Also, I have no idea how ANY of the names should be pronounced, but often they are pronounced in different ways than I hear from other channels. This is a common issue in all of fantasy to me. But I've also heard you remark that you don't pronounce these names the best. A thought occurred to me. Are you intentionally butchering every single name just to troll people? Because, not gonna lie, that would be epic! Like I said, I have no idea how the names are supposed to be pronounced, and you may be nailing every single one of them for all I know and you aren't bothering me at all, but I just had to ask!

Not intentionally trying to troll anyone, I genuinely suck. I've tried to correct myself here and there but yeah I struggle with the weird fantasy names.

No you don't suck at all! I've always struggled with them too and like I said, everyone always pronounces them differently. It's a problem with the genre as a whole. I just thought it would be a hilarious troll. Keep up the awesome and informative videos! I'm really enjoying them!

the reason you are so confused is that you are try to piece together 3 different continuities from different eddtions. for instance,Ao Io and Asgorath are all three different names for the same god,and the origion of the dragons also differs slightly as well,the Asgorath version you mentioned is one of them,the other is that Io created the,starting with Bahamut Tiamat and Vorel,followed by the other Dragon Gods and then the mortal dragons. the story where Io dies by being split in half is taken from 4th eddition,and in that version not only didi the two half become bahamut and Tiamat,but what was left over became the blood islands,as well as the first Dragonborn. this is why the creation story seems so contradicting to you. its also worth noting,that the Primordials had a hand in the creation of the giants,and part of the Dawnwars Conflict involved a war between the Dragons and ther Giants
@Jorphdan
@Jorphdan 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great comment, But now I have a question :3 Where are you getting your information about Ao and Io being the same god? I'd like to read some source material that states this because everything I'm finding states they are separate beings. For example one source is this thread on the Candlekeep Forums: forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11891
@dakotastein9499
@dakotastein9499 6 жыл бұрын
i cant find any direct sources off hand that specifically written sources that proclaim Io and Ao to be the same,but here is a source that suggests his duality with Asgoroth forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Asgorath#3e and seeing as it he is credited here with the creation of the multiverse,id consider him being a replacement for Ao in one of the creation stories,since Ao also is reffered to as the overdeity that created everything.
@ScottNetherstone
@ScottNetherstone 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think IO and AO are the same, but have read a few times that IO is Asgoroth... So IF that is true my question would be, how did IO/Asgoroth get cut in half, separate into Bahamut and Tiamat, and then just reappear later as Asgoroth/IO and chuck a moon at Abeir-Toril?

Seriously thank you, that line made my day, as I feel that often, or not often enough... :-) I'm sure that there are errors there, but I am also equally sure that you'll correct those errors as the series progresses. I just wish others did this to other WoTC settings (like Dragonlance, Greyhawk, etc)

The confusion over the Sundering is because the idea of Abeir and Toril as separate worlds was only introduced in 4e. Like much of 4e this was not well received by established fans. The second Sundering is a partial ret-con. It allows DMs familiar with the original lore to largely gloss over the mistake that was 4e. It's confusing because it is the writers trying to remove most of 4e lore while maintaining continuity.

The rise of the Aearee Empires came forth in the west, the Aearee-Krocaa, followers of the All-Father Krocaa, establish the grand aerie of Viakoo on Mount Havraquoar in -31000 DR. Viakoo served as the capital of their vast and great nation. This empire stretched from as far west as Maztica and as far south as the Lake of Steam. Mount Havroquoar stood far west of where the Sword Coast ends today. The great kokra aerie at Viakoo governed its lands fairly and forged lasting friendships with couatl, fey and other denizens of Anchorome. Like the other creator races, the aearee forged new life upon the realms, such as the aarakocra, kenku, and other birdlike humanoids. In the north, the Aearee-Syran established their capital at the aerie of Phwiukree, in the peaks of the Star Mounts and nested in the forests all around those mountains. They enjoyed the special favor of Korcaa's daughter, Syranita, who they praised as their patron. In the Southeast, the Aerree-Quor carved out the domain of Shara from the rookery located in the Osraun Mountains. A strong and majestic folk, their features were reminiscent of eagles and hawks. These aearees bore the features of crows and jays. The Aearee-Quor's patron was Quolinn, whose wits and cunning preserved their flocks through the worst times of the Batrachi domination and inspired in their hearts a fierce pride and determined self-reliance. Spreading out from the Shara rookery on the Orsraun Mountains, they grew into a loose affiliation of floating city-states that would eventually span the breadth of the continent. But it wasn't until -30700 DR that the Aearee truly came to prominence. One thousand Aearee-Krocaa lost their lives to a much smaller force of Lammasu. In attempt to rebel, the Aearee experimented on domesticated landwyrms and produced the first winged wyrms, which the aearee named wyverns. Thanks to its new wyvern armies, the Aearee empire expanded rapidly. For unknown reasons, the Kookrui-Shara fell into conflict with the gnolls of Urgnarash. Fighting at behest of the Demon Lord Yeenoghu, the gnolls summoned numerous marrashi to spread disease among the aearee. Crops were blighted, livestock fell, and the entire flock were striken by a horrid plague. In their desperation, many Aearee turned their backs of the All-Father Krocaa and sought worship of the demon lord Pazuzu for salvation. Despite this, the race was never able to recover from the Wasting Plague.

Might help you but there is a book called "lords of darkness" which talks about the creator races and that one of them had developed magic that the netherese would later take and modify. In it, one of the creator races was now a mummy and the scrolls had magic that included "Awaken Intelligence" and "Alter Beast". Think that helps figure out how at least some of the races were mutated (aka magic)

Ahh, so here's where the split happened. Also, no, the two worlds started to merge again and a section of Abeir replaced Maztica in the upheaval Spellplague caused. The Second Sundering was Ao splitting them again and fixing up the mess Faerun had descended into since the Time of Troubles.

I know the history of Dragons and such can be confusing, but think of it as the origins of Faerun don't necessarily mean the origins of EVERYTHING. It's just one plane of existence of the Prime Material Plane where other creatures, and primoridials, etc. can have origins on entire other planes across Realmspace. Look into Spelljammer and Planescape lore.

Hey there. I like what you're doing with this channel alot, but all over this video you're not sure of alot of things. And this seems to mostly stem from the confusion between various editions of the Forgotten Realms. Given alot has been retconned over time, the inconsistencies and varied accounts seem to confuse you a little. Which is not surprising, but does look a bit odd when you're hosting a channel like this. The problem is this: Because you're confused, the unread viewer is confused (or misinformed). And the well-read viewer might just be annoyed (I know I was). But, I think you can easily overcome this problem by properly separating the stories based on edition and sharply drawing the comparisons between them. Because the format you give the video's is pretty nice and I can see people using these as reference materials or just for viewing. So! Verify and cite your sources, and I think this channel would grow quite a bit. Another suggestion I would give you is that you might like to ask some questions on the Candlekeep forum, before you make a video about something. Those guys tend read the novels, and could offer you specific information that isn't in the wiki or general information books. I know this all might take extra effort, so it's up to you in the end. Good luck!

Thanks for the comment. The channel in general has been a learning curve, and I think an updated video on a lot of the content is in order. Originally it was supposed to be a "grow together" experience, and I'll be the first to admit I was quite lost in the beginning. I'll check out Candlekeep, thanks!

uhh there some familiarity between The Forgotten Realm and Warcraft's lore. I suppose it's the latter that took "inspiration".

In 3rd Edition it goes into what are called Epic Magic it's in the Epic players guide and it talks about what are known as Rune it's an ancient form of magic like this seeds I guess seeds another term for them one of them allows you to create life and if you've mastered a few of them you can shape that life to your whim it's not beyond the realm of possibility that if someone was able to master all of them they would have the power of God and they work in both psionic forms and in Arcane or Divine forms each seed or Rune is a little bit different depending on the type of power it calls from for example of psionic Rune or seed would have no effect for a wizard or cleric a sorcerer may get some use from them

The chromatic and metallic Dragons come from the platinum Dragon and the Dragon queen. But there are lots of other dragons that existed that are not the product to those 2

From what I understood, Asgoroth and Ao are the same entity, and it's not a primordial, it is the god that created the universe, it is a dragon god, it got split in two creating Tiamat and Bahamut, but kept living as a god, and the meteorites/dragon eggs he brought down creating dragons were from a trail of asteroids trailing the moon called the Tears of Selune. So this is not Tiamat and Bahamut who created the dragons, they only created Dragonkin creatures later on.

Dragons came from outside the dome. See, like earth, Toril is flat and not a spinning ball. Toril simply experienced a change over event or what we call apocalypse. The ice falling down was the ice dome and dragons entered from outside along with mony other creatures. Just like on earth.

Am I the only one that is not a big fan of the Forgotten Realms? Too many creatures, too much magic, and too much lore and history. I'm a little disappointed they don't cultivate Krynn anymore. Dragonlance focused on characters and their stories....
