He was the definition of cool both on and off the court. Off the court, he was stylish and smooth with one of the most unique fashion senses of any celebrity. But on the court, Walt Frazier was as cool as they come, never getting rattled or letting his emotions get the best of him, he could even play without breaking a sweat. So, when you see a player like that, you think he must not be doing much, but it the complete opposite for Frazier. He was one of the top players in the league on both ends of the court; routinely making all-NBA and all-Defense teams. The first name that comes to mind when you think of the 1970s New York Knicks is Willis Reed, but until Walt Frazier got there, the Knicks hadn’t even had a winning season with just Reed. Walt Frazier changed everything for those Knicks teams as he gave them attitude and identity, and it helped that he was one of the best point guards in the league for the majority of his career. He was big, strong and fast, could shoot or drive; was an exceptional playmaker and rebounder and would completely shut down the other team’s best player. There really were no holes in Frazier’s game, yet his name isn’t brought up nearly enough anymore. But if it weren’t for Walt Frazier, it’s more than likely that the Knicks are still searching for their first championship. Although the last few years of his career spent with Cleveland are forgettable; it’s his decade with New York that defines who he was as a player and it’s the reason why he’s an NBA Hall of Famer and a member of the NBA top 50 and NBA top 75 list. Walt “Clyde” Frazier deserves just as much credit for the most successful period of New York Knicks basketball than anyone else who was involved at that time; and his career deserves an equal amount of recognition.

Clyde was one of the best two way guards to play in the NBA! He had to guard some all time greats in his day. Guys like Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, and Earl " the Pearl" Monroe to name a few. He helped lead the Knicks to two NBA championships!

Clyde is a certified legend in New York. A folk hero even. He's also been a fixture for decades as an iconic Knicks announcer, which has prevented any chance of him being forgotten. Maybe he's forgotten or underappreciated outside of NYC. Not that I really care about that, just pointing out his current status. Thanks for the video and all your others. Your channel deserves much wider exposure and support.

"Calm, cool and collected." That nails it. What Frazier had was incomparable poise. Always in control. He wasn't a flashy player, but a team player. That's why he's underrated.

Clyde was a great, clutch, versatile player and was/is a great announcer. "Invincible and indefensible" "astounding bounding" "mobility and hostility" "rising majestically for the good stuff" are some of his sayings.

The early 1970s and 1990s were the heyday of the New York Knicks. Since James Dolan took over as owner of the Knicks, the team has entered a dark era. The duo of Walt Frazier and Willis Reed is underrated.

Even if he’s praised plenty.. he’s still very underrated! In terms of all-time PG’s, I’d probably only put Magic, Steph, Isiah, and Big O in front of Frazier. This is a man that won two titles and easily deserved one FMVP award; he was All-NBA and All-Defensive 1st; he maybe would’ve won a DPOY if it was awarded back then; he did every single thing on the court at high level, and was clutch as hell.. I mean….. he’s definitely borderline top5 GOAT PG, while many times he’s not even mentioned at all.

Clyde was great. No doubt. He was a real two-way guard who played hard on both ends. Won two championships with the Knicks. One of the best defensive players in NBA history. He had to guard guys like Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, and Earl " the Pearl" Monroe!

I never really saw him play as I wasn't much of a basketball fan as a young kid in the 70s, but I loved his commentary on the Knicks games in the 90s. He had those great rhymes, "wheeling and dealing" in the backcourt, "styling and profiling," etc., and he also had a thesaurus that he bought when he got the gig, and he'd try to introduce a new word every game. "The ball was tintinabulating around the rim, but it wouldn't fall in."

Even though Willis Reed was great and deserves credit for playing that championship game, the game should be known as the Walt Frazier game as much as it is the Willis Reed game. Walt Frazier was one of the best basketball players ever. Oscar Robertson always gave Frazier credit for being one of the best. Frazier is very overlooked and underrated now. And by the way, in that first playoff win against the Bucks, a picture of Oscar Robertson is shown in this video. Oscar wasn't playing for the Bucks that season. He joined them later.

Walt Frazier aka Clyde was a great basketball player in his own right. He played in the era where the NBA was just getting started. He was a flashy point guard who was very underrated as a player.

Clyde still one of the games greatest players named to the NBA Top 75, and Top 50 anniversary teams, along with being a New York Knicks legend winning it's only two championships 🏆 in franchise history to this day. But, by having it been part of the NBA 1970s. Much of the time then get overlooked for what's considered the Dead Era of the league everybody was not watching. Yet, at the time it was going. Clyde was indeed one of the games most popular players as well as it's best.

I love seeing the dishes to Dick Barnett and watching him sinking his mind-bending jumpshots. I tried to copy it, as a kid, but I only had an 8" vertical leap. My friends, too. Not a pretty sight. We'd end up falling down, banging our knees on the court, trying to kick our legs up while shooting.

Frazier may be underappreciated by today's ESPN generation, but to those of us who saw him play in the early '70's, he was the #1 guard in the NBA. It didn't get any better than that!

Frazier was a great 2-way player who was also a complete player. For 5 years (between Oscar & Magic) he was the best backcourt player in the game.

Walt was an example of how a young kid can overcome his father leaving. He was the oldest of many siblings and his mom told him, "Son, you're in charge." Boy, did he ever.

Definitely, Oscar Robertson was considered the best big pg and arguably the best pg until Magic came along. Robertson was roughly the same size as Elgin Baylor.

I remember watching Frasier in the late 60s, early 70s and he had that great fake that made the guy covering him jump up to block the shot but Frasier was still on his feet. As the defensive guy was coming down, Clyde would jump into the man and since the defensive guy was down when Walt was up, made contact, and then made the shot. Did that from long range or under the basket.

The golden age for the NBA for me when Basketball was real Basketball was the 1970's, when good teams all had great guards and good or great centers, like my team the Milwaukee Bucks, with Kareem( Lew Alcindor)Jabbar and Oscar( The big O) Robertson, Detroit with Bob Lanier and Dave Bing, Baltimore Bullets with Wes Unseld and Earl(The Pearl)Monroe, New York Knicks with Willis Reed and Walt(Clyde)Frazier, LA Lakers with Wilt (The Stilt)Chamberlain and Jerry ( Zeke from Cabin creek)West, Atlanta with Walt Bellamy and Lou Hudson, Boston Celtics with Dave Cowens and Jojo White Phoenix Suns with Alvan Adams and Paul Wesphal .
