Cool Forgotten Weapons merch! shop.forgottenweapons.com
Today we are looking at two suppressed CZ-27 pistols, one Polish and one German. The Polish one was issued by the Ministry of Public Security, an agency which only existed from 1945 until 1954. It uses an aluminum suppressor with 5 baffles and 5 rubber wipes, threaded onto an extended barrel. It is clearly not intended for precise shooting, as the sights do not clear the top of the suppressor!
The German pattern is substantially different. It was used by the Gestapo during the Nazi regime, and also by West German security services after World War Two. The suppressor is a non-disassemblable unit with a series of sheet metal baffles, and attached to a belled expended barrel. The rear of the suppressor has a circle of six flexible flanges that snap over the belled muzzle, and a threaded section which screws down over them to lock the unit in place. This suppressor also blocks the pistol's sights, and so it was made with a set of sights on the body of the suppressor tube.
Thanks to the anonymous collector who provided me access to these two pistols!

German here, can confirm. That both has upsides and downsides which usually we only find out after it has already been created. The funniest ones are 1990s and 2000s BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz Contraptions in Car Interieurs. I remember the most complicated and unnecessarily über-mechanical Cupholder Contraption in a BMW. I don't remember the exact Model from the Top of my Head, but basically youd push a Button and 2 Cupholders would "materialise" in a way you'd expect from a Science Fiction Movie Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

@@chartreux1532 Yeah, I encountered German over-engineering back when I was working in polygraphy (printing). Now, don't get me wrong, German industrial printers are easily the best in the world, the absolute top of the top. However, they also seem to be world leaders in user-unfriendly design. Like, let's say a stylus attached near the main printing roller seems to be designed specifically to detach while cleaning in such a way as to fall down to the very bottom of the printer. Now, say goodbye to those hours you are going to lose disassembling the entire printer to get it out. Cheers from Łódź in Central Poland,

Fun fact: *Both* pictures in the english Wikipedia article about the CZ vz. 27 (7.65 Browning/.32 ACP) actually show vz. 24 pistols (.380 ACP). They often get mixed up due to their similar looks, even though they've got one very significant distinctive feature that lets you tell them apart - the grooves for gripping the slide. vz. 27: vertical grooves vz. 24: slanted grooves I consider the CZ 27 an "I'll get one once I've got everything I _really_ want" collectors item. But an original pre-war pistol would be really nice to have, even now. I already got a pre-war magazine, though. Someone auctioned off a holster with a "CZ 24 magazine".
@ShootAUT
@ShootAUT Жыл бұрын
@@bimmypedersen8412 I've already been looking for a couple of years now. Haven't come across even a single pre-war CZ 27. Otherwise, I'd have bought it immediately if the price was right. Because yes, prices only go up. I could sell my CZ 75 for 5x of what I paid for it, my Mauser went up 50%, and I paid half of what it goes for now for the CZ 52. And that's a summary of just the past 4 years. A G3 in '44/'45? You mean the Gerät 06 or another early prototype? No way.

Thus "(das) Waffenamt" means "weapon agency" - right? And then a short "ready-made" quote from some source, just to give a SHORT explanation "what was this agency about" - and that's it. And then some besserwisser chimes in, saying "Wiki sucks". PS: I might got those German articles bit wrong, I don't really speak German, just limited exposure to it and some education really long time ago - just in case if you'd like to pick on them.

I spent a lot of time dealing with these things in the 80s and 90s. Left threads are good to avoid suppressor unscrewing itself due to barrel torque (when the bullet rotates to the right it forces the barrel to the left). Good to know someone solved the problem like me, I feel less stupid. The best way I tested was the vaime slanted flat washer baffle, which is the basis for almost all modern suppressors.

I can imagine a german agent in the dark trying to mount the damn thing and get his cover blown when the “target” hears all the swearing. And while getting beaten to death, wishing for a simple treaded one 😂

I don't think mounting is that much of a problem. It's just way too big and bulky compared to the simple Polish solution. And it was probably five times as expensive to make.

why do suppressors use left hand thread? Surely they don't expect the passing bullet to impart any spin on the suppressor body?

Generally, so the spin of the bullet will tend to tighten the suppressor instead of loosen it.

@@ForgottenWeapons I can see how that would work back when suppressors used wipes, but today the bullet generally isn't supposed to be touching the baffles?

Is Ian in a kitchen taking these apart? Its like he's giving us a detail on these using wine corks, before the crew takes them out on a undercover op.

Does anyone know anything about a nickel plated 9mm Makarov with an extended threaded barrel? Its supposed to have been issued by the Russian Baltic Fleet.
