In this experiment we are going to react aluminium with liquid bromine to make aluminum-bromide.
First a layer of bromine is poured into the bottom of a beaker. Then some aluminium powder is placed on to of bromine. Within a few moments they begin to react exothermically. Eventually all the aluminum has reacted.

I did this very experiment in chemistry class almost ten year ago. The entire fume hood area got very warm, it was like a portable space heater.

You can buy sodium bromide which is used in hot tubs, and make bromine through electrolysis. Alternatively you can mix it with muriatic acid and hydrogen peroxide to make bromine as well.

Why are you so upset that Pipar observed that the gas is really dangerous? He made no comment or innuendo that this shouldn't be done, or accused anything, or even made a big deal about anything. Stop trolling.

Cool! But, not a home lab experiment. To avoid explosion you can perform this reaction in dichloromethane to dissolve bromine, then adding slowly Al - foil...it takes a while before reaction takes place. This is safe to do outside. But AlBr3 is hygroscopic and form quickly stable hydrates with water in the air.
