Our Daughter did the DCP in 2003, when I graduated college in 2020 she suggested that I apply. Well, at the young age of 64‼️ I was accepted, my program ended in January of 23. The experience has been nothing less than MAGICAL ‼️ I have continued on in my role as a Cast Member. Would recommend the program to anyone who Loves Disney and wants to be part of the Magic. Great video explaining how it works. 👍👍

That is pretty cool! I'm in my 40's and still pursuing my degree. I always thought it would be cool to retire and work at WDW for a few years. Maybe drive one of the boats or something!

My son was in the first group that came back after covid. He loved it and was there almost a year. He is now full time and is still enjoying it. Some of this is different now. Traditions is done at Flamingo Crossing and you don't get to go in any parks until you get your self admission pass which can take a week or 2.

I never knew there was a DCP until one of my former high school students applied for it. He had gone a year to community college, had always wanted to be in it, told me about it, he applied, didn't get it, applied a few months later. He was accepted, called me to tell me he got accepted, I had promised him if he got accepted I would go visit him thinking he would get accepted to Disneyland, then he told me he was going to Disney World. I hesitated thinking "Oh man, I gave him my word, I don't want to go all of the way to Florida." Congratulated him, kept my word and went to visit him. If it weren't for him and some of the benefits associated with the DCP I would have never made it out to Florida. He showed me what he could, told me all about it, and was impressed. Told him once I get old and retired maybe I'll apply so I can be a custodian so I can be outside and not have to look at financial data all of the time.

Looking into this some more, it doesn't seem like a great deal unless you REALLY love Disney. $431 program fee to be paid before you start, $191 - $246 per week in rent and utilities (~$830-$1066 per month), and $180 for a parking permit if you bring a car (availability not guaranteed). If you extend your program and you brought a car, you have to pay an additional $90 for another permit. If you're making $14/hr and working 40 hours a week, you're taking home ~$230-$285 per week after tax, assuming you're not also buying health insurance or contributing to a 401k.

Great video Emma! So awesome to hear about your experience:) the only change now is that Traditions is done at Flamingo Crossings Village - the DCP housing- and there’s no small Magic Kingdom tour:( also, the Utilidoors tour is included in the full MK tour now😪

We live 5 mins down the road from Flamingo Crossings. Anyone can go to the shopping/food complex. The only thing you can’t go to is the actual housing complex. There’s a Wendy’s, Five Guys, Firehouse, Dunkin’, Starbucks, Pieology, Walgreens, baby Target, Five Below, UPS store, brewing Company, Ice cream place, and. Japanese restaurant. There’s ALOT more to come. There’s a group of hotels that surround it and it’s a really nice area. We like living in this area very much. FYI that Target is very very very small and is more expensive than any other Target. Think a large convenience type Target with a liquor store attached. LOL

It’s funny how every time I think of a video I’d love to see, Emma does one! I applied for the DCP when I graduated in 2014, got in, but my acceptance emails went to my spam mail and I missed my shot (I’m clearly over It). Over the weekend I was celebrating my 30th birthday in MK, and decided I want to have another shot at It when I go back to school in the summer!

The thing that sucks about being DCP is that time you do work for the company, it does not count toward your seniority unfortunately. You are a cast member, but at the same time you are not a cast member. But it is a great experience and you do learn the ins and outs of the company. If you can be an intern for the company, it would be better to do that especially if they have the opportunity in the field you want to work in.

I did a college program back in 2003 doing quick service at MK for $6/hour. Money management was definitely difficult but I loved the job so much I applied & did another program. In 2006 I got attractions & worked Rock 'n' Roller Coaster & then extended my program to work at Tower of Terror. Minimum wage increased so I got $6.50/hr. I'm happy to hear that they are giving CPs more than minimum wage now.

Unfortunately I'm from Canada and go to a Canadian institution so I can't do the DCP, but I know the international ambassador program is similar. My friend does it and loves it, so an in-depth video on that program would be often. Do they share a housing complex?

I'm just wondering if you have ever heard about Disney's Career Start Program? I was a part of that back in the early 90s. It was like the DCP but without the college credit. We were placed in apartments next to the college Program participants.

Do they take in to consideration the applicant's major? My son is studying to be a veterinarian and really wants to work with the animals in DAK. We live in California, (he's been a New Yorker for most of his life though) and it would be kind of a waste to have him working at Casey's Corner when he has knowledge of animal biology.

Do you have to go to their college to get a job at Disney.? Also, are you required to live in student housing?
@shm30117
@shm30117 15 күн бұрын
The DCP accepts applicants from colleges across the country. Living in the DCP housing at Flamingo Crossing is not required; but, it’s usually the best/cheapest option unless you already live in the Orlando area.

This old and outdated program is ripe for reform. 💯 But since that type of reform requires lots of money, time, and resources, Disney is probably content to just keep playing the numbers game. Minimal effort, minimal resources, minimal risk. And if the participant leaves or gets fired, big deal. Just move on to the next name on the list! I mean, they don't even bother with 20-min phone interviews anymore! 💯 But the problem with this type of short term thinking is that it eventually becomes noticeable in the parks. And these aren't afternoon trips to state fairgrounds we're talking about. They're very expensive, once-in-a-lifetime vacations! 💰

Emma your information is terrific and you’re so much fun to listen to, but there are definite problems with your mic-it’s picking up absolutely everything around you and drowning you out-might need a different brand. The extraneous conversations are realistic, but definitely a barrier to hear what you’re trying to say on the last couple of videos .
