Just come across your fabulous video's John, thanks for sharing them, My wife's Grandfather was employed as a stoker at the Richmond Town Gasworks, her father Charlie Watson lived at number 10 tower street as a young boy aged 7, where the council had a small yard behind the hoses where they kept the work horses, they then moved to the brand new estate built by George Shaw the first to live in number Ten Bridge Terrace, her Grandmother Annie Watson, Nee Mathews, would take his supper down to the gasworks when he was on night duty. The lamp you showed was actually lit by her Grandmothers first husband, Charlie Francis Wheeler who she had three children to, who was lost in the Great War, his name is on the Memorial in the Friary Gardens.

I vividly remember the smell of the gas as I passed by on the Castle Walk.
