Former Ohio State University football standouts Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint sat down for an exclusive in-depth interview discussing their long journey from criminal accusations facing 33 years in prison to full acquittal of all charges.
Opening up to Ryan, Channing and Fred- Riep and Wint described what first went through their heads when they were accused of rape and went from preparing for their senior years as expected Captains of the football team to three years of fighting in court before finally reaching justice.
“I was pissed,” said Wint. “Like are you crazy? I was really mad. Someone came and knocked on my door and I saw detectives and I had no idea what they were doing there.”
“I hadn’t even been thinking about the situation,” said Riep. “I was shocked and confused and trying to figure out what’s going on. Every athlete hears about things like this, but you think to yourself that it would never be me…I didn’t have anything to hide. So whatever they needed, DNA or whatever, they could have it.”
After first being accused and removed from the OSU football team in February 2020, Riep and Wint were finally declared not guilty on all charges this past February. The duo expressed the emotions they felt throughout the long process in great detail throughout the conversation.
The two young athletes share how much this process has affected them and their families, with Amir losing his father during this time. Ryan and Fred ask what are some of the lessons they learned hoping their courage to share the trials and tribulations will help other young athletes avoid a similar situation.
Trying to get back their life and still pursue a football career, the two young men have entered the transfer portal and begun the process of trying to get back on the playing field and still chase their NFL dreams.

Being found "not guilty" doesn't necessarily mean that they're saying what the person claimed is false. You're getting deep into legal weeds here where you're saying that she KNOWINGLY and PURPOSELY made it all up. Which isn't always the case. They could just FEEL like they were raped. They could just not have enough legally to convict them on the charges they've been brought up on. There's so much more to the system than just "Oh no send her to prison for 8 years. It's the same thing as like a libel -- you can't just SAY something that hurt someone. The person has to have PURPOSELY made something up they KNEW would hurt the other person. And the court has to absolutely prove it. It would be an absolute legal mess to "prove" someone made up that they though tthey were raped. Unless they literally found text messages that said "Hey im gonna lie and say they raped me" there's almost no point to even pursuing that. A person will never get convicted unless there is some SMOKING GUN proof that they lied.

@Andrew A Let's say someone saw you in a bank and accused you of robbing it. You're saying even though you were found not guilty you could've robbed the bank? By all means make that make sense.

This means a lot to me because the same thing happened to me. I was a track athlete at Pitt and was falsely accused in November 2019. I was acquitted of all counts in December '22. I wrote a book about it called "Aspirations: The story of how a man who wanted to change the criminal justice system fell victim to it"which is on Google books. The sequel "Repercussions: Battle against the Commonwealth" is releasing November 5th of this year.

But, when are y'all going to be real with these boys about the mindset in the athlete culture and the choices they're making with loose girls just bc it seems to be available, especially at PWI's. Leave them alone. The Pivot danced around it. As a BW, it pisses me off that y'all continue to make these same mistakes with that "it won't happen to me" mindset. Men, step up & teach these boys about restraint.

@@deequeen363 restraint? How about teaching these girls to STOP falsely accusing men of things they did not do TF
@deequeen363
@deequeen363 Жыл бұрын
@@Juntao1989 I agree re: the females wholeheartedly. My comment was specifically focused on the athletes bc of them being on the show & my frustration, as a Woman, in seeing these young men making the same mistake with these girls every season. And whether you agree or not, young athletes, who have been recruited to these schools, typically have been coddled in the recruiting process & given everything (including access to those bunnies) so they don’t have the mindset of restraint bc of the process. On the other hand, plenty of girls don’t know what they’re walking into when dealing with athletes & their “playbook” with women either (I.e. trains, etc) so it’s ugly on both sides and that transparency needs to be revealed.

They can never get back what this woman took from them. Could be in the NFL right now, but now we may never know. The same 30 years they were looking at should be given to the woman. If she had no problem with them sitting in a cell for three decades for nothing, she should get exactly what she was willing to give these innocent young men. Then maybe this will stop.

How am I just finding this podcast? I'm only 3 episodes into their catalog and I've already laughed, teared up, and felt many emotions listening to these amazing brothers share their wisdom! RC is the voice of reason, and understanding and I'm grateful to be able to dissect his intellect!

Unfortunately, black men being accused of rape by white women will NEVER end. I recall them movie Rosewood and it just breaks my heart to think of alllllll the black men who were not given the opportunity of a trial and an aquittal. So many snatched from their homes, taken from the jail and hung in the middle of the town square. Fred, Channing, and RC as always many blessings to each of you and your families. Thank you for a conversation that needed to be had. 🔥🔥🔥

Emitt till was killed because of a white girl lying. And she admitted it. It's in theDNA of the white woman culture to falsely accuse the big scary Blackman smh

Damn RC advice about forgiving was so powerful. Thankful that for this platform to allow the brothers to tell their story, more thankful that it constantly shows what supporting each other and encouraging each other to grow can do for us.

That was an awesome episode of young men learning and turning a negative situation into what is hopefully a positive disposition moving forward. That will go on for the rest of their lives as they will rebuild but have the good brothers from The Pivot as a building blocks and concrete foundation. When they become the OGs, they will remember this episode and pass on good will learned from this episode of acceptance and mentorship.

I am confused by your use of the word atonement. How is it applicable here? Just asking
@jeffreysimmons9425
@jeffreysimmons9425 Жыл бұрын
@@stickum4147 I used that term in the way of reconcilement of what happened. Maybe I should have said learning and moving forward positively. I appreciate you asking how that term was applicable, so I changed the wording hopefully to create less confusion.
