The kitten had an unusually friendly personality and captured the hearts of our dog-loving family.
We welcomed Shiro as a new member of our family.
As amateur cat fans, Shiro's every move makes us laugh every day.
Shiro has now become the central figure in the family.
I brought out the kotatsu for Shiro...
Shiro sees a kotatsu for the first time in his life.

It's called a 'slow blink', and it's pretty much the cat saying "I love you/I trust you". Shiro slow blinks a lot, you have made him one happy cat

9:11 Shiro was giving you a slow blink! That’s how cat’s say they love you. Shiro is such a pretty baby, I had a solid white cat when I was little her name was snowy she looked like fresh snow. I hope Shiro spends many happy years with your family, it’s clear you all love him very much.

Cats generally love dark, closed off spaces, it makes them feel safe. They also tend to love routine, so they need a bit of time to get used to any changes. So even when the kotatsu wasn't turned on, once he got used to it, it was only a matter of time until he learned to love it. The fact that it can also warm up makes it the best thing ever for a cat! ❤

It's fine as long as it's not turned on, or else, it's a hazard. The heat would be too much and suck too much oxygen out. All in all, don't have it turned on with the cat inside, but it's fine on it's own. Personally, I make a tent on top a recliner chair with a thick blanket, and my cats love going underneath. Enough air circulation that it's safe

My mom has a huge, oversized ottoman, at least a metre across, and her cat loves to nap beneath it. It's quiet, dark, and extra warm. Gums the Toothless Kitty adores it.

Adorable! Kotatsus aren’t popular outside of Japan, so I personally never felt one, but they seem really cozy! On another note, thank you for putting English subtitles 😊

There are equivalent structures all over the world where families sit in winter. When I was in Afghanistan, a lot of households still used the traditional sandali, which is called differently in Iraq and the countries south of Russia, but it's basically the same thing.

Awww This reminds me of when I got my cat to share a hot pad with me for the first time. I was sore so I had it out and my cat was nearby, so I put him on top of it, he was confused and suspicious of this tiny warm pad (he sniffed it a lot). But eventually he realized it was cozy and started to enjoy it a lot. Cats really love cozy things lol. Just need to investigate first.

If a cat is avoiding your gaze or deliberately turns its back, it is also showing trust- it knows you won't hurt it. It's a different way of showing affection than dogs, but the affection is just as real. This is why cats always come to people that try to ignore them- they think they're trying to make friends!
